Neymar looks Set to Smash World Record Signing for PSG for £197 million ($253m)

.....yes,i believe he would do ok.

Messi wouldn't get out of Joey Barton's pockets m8

But would Messi be able to do it in a more competitive league like PL? Ronaldo have done it.

He's comfortably the best player of all time, as amazing as Ronaldo is, he will never score some of the goals Messi has scored throughout his entire career (close control, dribbling through an entire team), he will never create space and make those killer balls like Messi has and does. He is a physical specimen, but in terms of actual pure footballing ability he really isn't even that close to Messi.

Couple things,

The prices are absurd but ultimately people are paying to watch and as long as that continues they will rise in line. If Pogba and Lukaku are worth 80m, then Neymar's multiple is fair on a relative basis.

The FFP rules are a none sense and the blood/oil money will continue to make a mockery of it till harsher standards are adopted.

The TV money is what can keep this sustainable for most clubs but that TV money is dictated by how stupid telecoms companies want to be in bidding. A lot of them are smartening up and walking away from attempted exclusivity (they want attractive wholesale).

BT and Sky in the U.K. - BT is a much bigger company than Sky and has much higher capacity to bid - if it wanted to. The reason it never did was because it would risk upsetting ofcom, it should be spending that money on Fibre investment and it would not want the political backlash. BT was happy with what it has and is looking to pull back since Ofcom is not happy with BT at present. It is Ofcom who effectively saved Sky.

Sky as a company is being cord cut to shit and if Fox is blocked it is prime bid target for a Vodafone or someone similar. Organically it is becoming more dependent on football as its traditional video revenue is in hefty decline, like most pay-tv operators. So despite becoming more dependent on football it's capacity to bid in a heavily inflationary rights market is falling. It needs BT to walk away.

In Spain - Telefonica tried for exclusivity with various sets of rights and is now walking away from that strategy under new management since all it did was create unsustainable prices for everyone.

Now the thing that could bring the next leg of growth would be the entry of an Amazon or Facebook into the bidding wars. Amazon brought ATP Tennis tour rights in the U.K., denying Sky, but the amount spent was peanuts.

The problem here is the economics for this are horrendous and both are not willing to burn cash for what consumer lock in which they both already have. Pay-tv business models are in decline because they are being destroyed by ever higher content costs (sports rights) and desire for streaming solutions amongst millennials. We are headed for some sort of reset. European regulators will not allow US style broadband pricing (which is absurd) to subsidise the acquisition of ever more expensive rights.

LOL.

As for what's going on here, it's at a point where you've got to say who cares about rich men being rich men? Football is what it is now, from the players to the agents to the clubs and owners. It's just a playpen and/or monopoly game and as time goes on the best enjoyment will be from whenever the "normal" clubs still manage to beat the oil tycoon clubs.

Hence why the EPL is good fun when a side that costs less than one player from one of the top six comes out on top. Although, in saying that, with the rising Sky TV costs handed over by the people, even the mid and lower EPL teams are getting some "silly" money.

As for Neymar as an individual, we'll see what comes next. If the money and fame go to his head he'll never be a Ronaldo or Messi at any club. Barcelona are a bigger/better club than PSG too, but Neymar will play where he wants to play. Whether it's money, fame, or wanting to be the centre of attention (which is never going to happen around Messi).

avaya talk to us about PEDs

Anything new that the athletes are using or just same old

But would Messi be able to do it in a more competitive league like PL? Ronaldo have done it.

It's quite amazing that you sometimes can't tell if posts like this are serious or not haha

They don't do genuine drug testing in football, everyone is on the standard HgH/EPO microdosing regime with blood doping added in. Athletics is where people are on the new synthetics but even there the testing is a joke.

They are all on drugs. They are all frauds.

He's the heir apparent to ronaldo/Messi both in terms of football and challenging for the balon dor and in terms of marketing power.

If a sub like morata is worth £70m, Bale/Pogba worth £90m and Mbappe worth £100m then Neymar is easily worth twice that.

Isn't Griezmann clause something on the realm of €200 million too?

It's £90m or so, or will be next summer. That's how much Utd were gonna pay for him.

Again it could seem a bargain by next summer considering he came 3rd in balon dor so is for now the 3rd best player in the world!

They should just have 2 players in the running for Ballon d'Or until Messi and Ronaldo both retire.

Let's face it the 3rd player is never going to win before then.

Probably not.

What we've witnessed with Ronaldo and Messi is something inhuman. In a "bad" season, they score like 35 league goals. People say "yeah, they missed some games and had some bad games this season" Before their era, a player with those averages would've been considered the best striker on the planet.

People will realize it once they've been retired. We won't see averages of 80 goals in a calendar year anytime soon.

And not only that, but also realize that these guys are doing it for 10 years straight. Other legends, like Ronaldinho, they could hold on for perhaps 3 or 4 seasons before fading away. What these 2 guys are doing is absolutely ridiculous. Thats why I always laugh when fans say that Hazard is as good as Messi, who had been through an absolutely shit season already. Something Messi and Ronaldo never experienced thus far. These guys are the best players in the history of football.

I agree.
I cannot recall anyone who has been this consistent for this many years and we are lucky to have them both be playing during the same era. What's even more amazing iss that the two teams they play for are traditional rivals so they are always competing ! I mean just have a look at the Ballon d'Or, it's just been between these two guys for 9 years non stop and will possible follow for another year or two.

Reading these numbers I'm glad I never contributed a single cent to that sport and I'm not gonna change that anytime soon. The day I can't watch Champions League, Euro or World Cup matches on our state TV channels for "free" is the day I'll stop caring for football.

The Guardian report says they'd have to accept it from a Spanish club or Neymar himself but are allowed to reject it from PSG in the interests of protecting the league and the Spanish club.

1) PSG transfer Neymar £200m.
2) Neymar buys out his contract
3) Neymar signs for Manchester United instead

La Liga has rejected an attempt by lawyers for Barcelona forward Neymar to pay his buyout clause of 222m euros (£198m).

This should be interesting.

The butthurt is real, they're just trying to piss PSG off as much as possible, they can't do anything at the end because the FIFA is over the Liga, they should probably accept the money as fast as possible and tried to save their clubs which are in huge debts, Neymar don't want to play in the club anymore, it's done, just take the money and fuck off.

He's scored 17 goals in 16 games against English clubs, including a hat trick against City and four in a game against Arsenal. I'm pretty sure he'd be OK.

Yeah playing for Barcelona. That's the key thing here he's one of the best players to play the game no doubt but for me I couldn't put him above numerous other players in the GOAT list due to the fact he's only played for Barcelona, which is basically moulded around him. Fact he's never hit the same heights playing for his country just amplifies thats.

You know he is one of the GOATS if that the reason people have to bring up to knock him down.

Why would you expect him to play as good with worse players than in Barca ? Soccer is a teamsport you cant win any cup alone, there is just so much one player can do.

You're contributing by just watching tho.

So PSG want to buy him and they have the money
Barca wants the money to sign new players.

What is this about Barca pressure La liga? They want the money.

I'm very surprised by plenty of opinions in this thread. Saying French L1 is a pointless league and saying French clubs like PSG are buying their performance with expensive signings.

But, prior to Arret Bosman, French League was highly competitive and since then, french players are inundating european big clubs. How do you think all those guys have been signed by the big guns?

Money. French youngsters and talents are pillaged because of tax differences and therefore unfair competition by concurrent leagues. You speak of financial fair play but what about French League DNCG not allowing french clubs to be professional if they are in debts?

And now i see everyone coming at PSG throat? This is what those big clubs do to the french clubs since mid nineties. Why are they whining? You know Pogba? Pogba comes from Le Havre young training center, everything he has done as a footballer comes from Le Havre training him while he was young, and then Manchester Utd knocks at the door, show the money and byebye. Hundred of millions after that, how is that fair?

Remember Marseille winning the C1 and PSG the C2 in early 90s.

There is something funny about a transfer between Spain and France being expressed in the topic title as pound and dollar, but not in Euro, the currency in which by assumption it will actually be paid.

This is incredible ironic coming from Barcelona. Using a broken and corrupt system is only okay if it benefits them. That's the message they are sending here. Just Embarrasing.

This has nothing to do with Barcelona, this is all La Liga.

Same thing with the Dutch league, it's being plundered for talent every year, seriously eroding the Eredivisie. It's no coincidence that the last time a Dutch team won the Champion's League is the year of the Bosman arrest. All real talent is gone before they are 24 and often much earlier than that. There are no shady oil billionaires bankrolling clubs here so it's impossible to compete.

Spain and England in particular have been buying their successes for decades now. It's hilarious that Barcelona, being one of the worst offenders, is complaining now.

It's a valid reason though when talking about GOAT. You said theres only so much one player can do but Maradona....World cup 1986 ;)
When we're talking about GOAT I'm look at Ronaldo: killed it at Cruzeiro, PSV (he was a kid then) killed it at barca, inter, real. Different teams, styles, countries he's adapted to and been amazing. So when I'm thinking about GOAT that matters to me it's why I would put Ronaldo over Messi. Same for Zidane tbf i just love Zidane made everything look so easy.

I know for most people the fact he's remain at one club doesn't matter anyway going way off topic now.

You could go watch a local team.

Football now is different game than 1986.

Barça wants the money, this fuckery with the transfer is the doing of Tebas, president of LFP and a very famous Madrid supporter and major asshole who likes to appear on TV. Oh and he's also a fascist. He just wants the protagonism and fuck with Barça in the process, it's nothing new.

They had the best career of course but the game right now is different. Players like Cavani , Suarez are able to score more than 40 or even 50 goals in a single season. Do you think that these guys are better than Sheva or Van Basten ?You can't compare different era of fotball by looking at the stats without analizing the context.

You could go watch a local team.

I agree, that'd be the next thing I'd do, if I was willing to spend money for watching football, but I'm honestly not such a big football fan anyway, just watching Euro, World Cup and Champions League, but not all matches either.

It's hilarious even more when LaLiga complains about PSG circumventing Financial Fair Play. If a true FFP (no debt allowed, capped transfer fees) were in place, you' d see much stronger and homogeneous, interesting, leagues. And Barcelona/Real would be the biggest losers.
