I believe the difference is that helmet to helmet hits are allowed when it's tackler/runner. They happen all the time. When Adrian Peterson and a defender meet, they lower their heads and bang into each other's heads. The problem in this case is that this hit was absolutely on the finest line between "He's a defenseless receiver!" and "He's a runner!" which results in a brutal fucking hit, but one that by the rules was probably not a penalty.

It's not a penalty, people don't know what they're talking about. It just looks bad because the hit earlier wasn't a penalty either, but was called one.

There really wasn't although driving the QB into the ground has been called on less. The refs went in knowing that this game was going to be hostile and they have done a terrible job. There is still an entire quarter left...

The issue is the original call is fucking madness. The one thing that play can't be is an incomplete pass without a personal foul for that hit yet that's what they called. That should be enough to end this crew's postseason.
