They're actually going to be the first SB loser in a long time to miss the playoffs.
2015 Seahawks made it.
2014 Broncos made it.
2013 Niners made it.
2012 Pats made it.
2011 Steelers made it.
2010 Colts made it.
2009 Cardinals made it.
The 08 Pats are the last SB losers to miss, and that year Brady missed the whole year and they still won 11 games.
Because it's easier to just look at stats and declare X as better than Y. Derek brings so much more to this team than raw production, though. There's no better peer leader in the league in my opinion.

All the Chiefs have to do to win tonight is find a better quarterback and redzone playcaller. Should be easy to find one in the next 15 or so minutes.
Smith is in his fourth year in this system, and it's by far his worst. Reid is calling hysterically awful plays within the 10. The defense is wearing down, I presume from having the carry the team for most of the past 4 years.
I fully expect tonight to get ugly quickly.

As bad as Assweiler is, I'm not sure you can bench him for an unknown, when the team is 6-5 and sitting on top of the division. In our heart of hearts we know Savage is better than the Ass, but as a coach you still can't make that call..yet. If they lose next week..maybe.. next 2 weeks, then I think you have to make the change at that point.
