NFL - Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott Suspended 6 Games

Different standards of guilt. NFL ran their own investigation and are the judge/jury/executioner in this case. He doesn't have to break the law at all to violate the policy.

They have been sued. The Court sided with the NFL because it's all in the Agreement that the NFLPA agreed to.

The only actual crime you can pin to zeke was driving over the speed limit right? All the other instances no charges were filed and it was just a lot of "bad looks". So bad looks gets you 6 games?

The accusers friend signed an affidavit that the accuser asked her to lie about the event. Nfl justice

Unbelievable that he got 6 games for something that didn't happen. The chick wanted to get some of his NFL money and made up some shit to set herself up for a settlement. Even her friends were like "nah this bitch crazy". Text messages saying she's going to ruin his career if he didn't stay with her.

And the NFL suspended him for that but others get away with straight beating their girl? C'mon son

Yikes, this sounds like a mess if this is true. Sounds like it may not matter because they have a contract that says they get to decide what to do regardless.

Her injuries were apparently consistent with her story. Are you alleging that she beat herself up (Jim Carrey Liar Liar style)? There is definitely enough evidence to cast some doubt on her complete story, obviously. But how can you unequivocally say "something that didn't happen"?

Plus, the mardi gras tomfoolery absolutely DID happen and on its own, having been caught on tape, probably could have justified some kind of suspension in itself (albeit not six games).

What we CAN state unequivocally is that Zeke is currently a scumbag that needs to get his act together and do a lot of maturing before he can be considered any kind of well adjusted human being.

But after all, the NFL isn't really in the business of well adjusted human beings. Especially not Jerry Jones.

Definitely did NOT need it's own thread. The NFL has been shit and I wish it all the worse until it handles business differently.

Looks like we found a cowboys fan.

Goodell goodelling again - looks pretty clear the NFL basically predetermined the result they wanted. Hire a professional investigator, ignore their findings and hide them.

From deadspin-

Ezekiel Elliott’s appeal hearing for his six-game suspension concluded today—with the NFL’s lead investigator, Kia Roberts, reportedly testifying that she had recommended Elliott not be suspended, only to find her recommendation missing from the league’s final report.

Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Roberts testified that after interviewing Tiffany Thompson, Elliott’s former girlfriend, she recommended that Elliott not be suspended by the league. Thompson accused the running back of domestic violence last summer. But Roberts’s recommendation was not included in the NFL’s final report on the situation, and according to what a source told the Star-Telegram about today’s testimony, she was barred from a meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss the league’s discipline of Elliott.

From the Star-Telegram:

It’s those failures of the process that Elliott and the NFLPA attacked during the appeal hearing and plan to exploit if they have to go to federal court to seek a temporary injunction.

That Roberts’ recommendation didn’t make it into the report and Roberts not being involved in the decision making, even though she ran point on the fact finding with the accuser, are trap doors that could come back to haunt the NFL if this goes to federal court.

The NFL shady? From a Pats fan, I am shocked. SHOCKED I tell ya.

So stupid that the punishment for abusing a woman is to not play a game for 6 weeks. Either he's innocent and should get no suspension or is guilty and should be imprisoned (assuming a certain degree of abuse).

Read that Dallas is assuming if there is no ruling by Tuesday afternoon Elliott could be available for the opener. NFL blocking their investigator and ignoring her recommendations is not surprising to me.

The league should just take the L and remove his suspension completely.

There was a mention in the article about Jerry angrily confronting the head lady who made the decision to exclude the chief investigator's recommendation.

NFL stay losing.

That happend last year and was overblown in the initial coverage.

Article 46 still give NFL the advantage here regardless, it will be hard for Zeke to win in court.

Blame the NFLPA, not the NFL. They got the NFL exactly where they wanted them - right behind them with their pants at their ankles. They screwed up on the CBA deal.

But seriously it's pretty fucked up what Goodell is doing, not really fair

So we can just ignore the NFL and goodell's behavior until 2021 and never discuss their wrongdoing? Great to know, scorching hot take.

Is this finally going to sink Roger Goodell? He fucked up with Brady and still got a way out, so I hope some court smells this bs and calls him out on it.

There's no possible way he beats it entirely. Even if they were convincing regarding the alleged domestic abuse, there's still the top fondling incident. Worst case for Goodell they could still probably justify pinning two games on him for conduct detrimental etc etc. Wouldn't feel worry for classless loser Elliott regardless.

No. He can say that Zeke caused brand damaged simply by being accused of domestic violence. It is up to the commissioners discretion to determine that and levy punishment. Unfortunately, the players agreed to this dickbag being judge, jury and executioner in order to get out of padded practices and more $$$. This will change at the next cba

Ray Rice had his increased suspension thrown out by a judge after the nflpa argued they were trying to double dip after under suspending him the first time. I wonder if the fact that three different investigative bodies including the nfl's own investigator saying "no evidence of dv" mixed with the nfl's own comment of "did not use the later incidents in coming to this conclusion" gives the nflpa an actual chance of winning this. Especially when combined with the argument that people who admitted to dv were given less then the "league minimum". Might even be able to play the race card after the handling of Josh Brown last year.

I'm not a legal expert and I imagine espn and other places with sports legal experts will be able to clarify if the nflpa/zeke have a strong case to actually get the suspension thrown out due to some legal loophole.

As long as Goodell keeps making the league money he's untouchable

How the fuck is Goodell making the league money?
1. He does nothing to promote the game's popularity
2. He's widely viewed as a joke among fans and pissed off entire fanbases with his idiotic and inconsistent doling out of punishment
3. His strategy of denying and covering up issues regarding long term player health is not working -- youth football participation is rapidly dwindling due to safety concerns, and the league is facing numerous lawsuits due to its failure to implement proper safety measures for dealing with concussions
4. He commands an annual salary of tens of millions of dollars.

The NFL is successful in spite of him and would do much better if they cut him loose.

If the NFL truly thought that, they would cut him loose.

Instead, they just extended his contract.

Take a look at the NFL profits before and after goddell. Owners also love paying him to take the heat on their bullshit. Make no mistake, the owners love him. Even Trumper Kraft and jerry

Dude come on. If this guy really did what he's been accused of you need to take a step back and forget the rivalry or even the actual sport of football for a second. This guy abused a woman.

Im reading more stuff now about how the NFL picked and chose the evidence it was going to use, disregarding a lot of facts that go against their claim but in the even then until proven otherwise this guy needs to be looked at as a POS.

Thatsnothowthisworks.gif

Why should he be considered a a POS until proven otherwise? Innocent until proven guilty.

Guy accused of DV- Will hold judgement until facts or evidence convince me he's a POS.

Cleared by courts- Enough evidence to clear him. Contradictory facts. Might be a POS might not.

NFL Suspension- With their track record he's probably not a POS.

What the fuck.

Seems like if this goes to court the NFL might get dunked on

His job requires him to do two things:

1) Make sure the owners make more money - They are

2) Take all the flak that should be aimed at the owners - He does.
