Saw the Seau news, that's awful.

Stupid rule changes are a bandaid -- FMT loves to post that image of Pierre Thomas getting lit up by the 49ers DB, and that was a legal hit. Both guys will have migranes (or worse) for the rest of their lives as a result of it.

The league needs to mandate safer helmets. It's ridiculous that they haven't already. Get serious about solving the problem: stop concussions from happening by taking away the hardhats and giving dudes the protection they need.

I'd agree with eznark's premise in general. If we can't drastically (think 95+%) reduce the concussions from the game, it's not going to be something society will tolerate.

didn't the league try that and players refused to wear the helmets? i don't remember if that happened or was just talked about

They give the players a choice, IIRC. And the players ought to have a choice: between space-age helmet A and space-age helmet B.

I don't know or care if it's the NFL or the NFLPA that has to make the mandate happen, but it has to happen.

We'll probably end up with ridiculous looking full face helmets, but who cares?

Owners: Alright. we're going to cut down on some of these hits and make you wear these safer helmets
Players: fuck you BITCH!!

bottom line is the owners don't give a flying fuck about player safety unless it is going to affect their bottom line. if there was no possibility of them being sued or having to pay more for healthcare they wouldn't do anything about these concussions

I know about the Brees comment but I am pretty sure that there was zero evidence of video taping the Rams practice and that the burned evidence was of other stuff. And I am of the opinion that Goodell was an asshat for burning the evidence.

Mouthguards is a good idea though I fucking hated playing with mine.

Obviously at the end of the day its not the minors who will sign the waivers, its the parents. As for my concussion history, I don't know. What's a concussion and what's my ears getting rung like they seem to after every play?

You've told me about your high school past and I respect every single player who goes through two a days and puts on the pads. I think there is to much emphasize on this just happening to NFL players alone and not high school or college players. At the end of the day its football and I knew full well what I was getting into.

And my defense of the Suh stomp was due to the fact refs are now holding a prejudice against defensive players as a whole despite the team. There were no calls on Suh getting held, or Suh getting punched in the pile after the play was over.

I still dont know why I chose to play football in highschool.

I'm glad I did though, made a lot of friends and it got me into good shape that has managed to residually last through college.

Still, I tore my rotator cuff and at least one concussion. Oh and my knee got kinda jacked too. Its a risk that comes along with the sport but its not a necessity. Injuries can be managed with smart play without lessening the game's intensity.

I played a few years on the Oline and never had an injury outside of a bruised tailbone while I was playing on some defensive snaps. I got more hurt in baseball with a hard comebacker off my head and jammed wrists while diving on balls and to bags.

Good defensive linemen get held. Every one of us has suffered seeing Clay Matthews, Justin Tuck, JPP, Justin Smith, etc. get held and harangued in the trenches.

yep. my friend was complaining about all the non-hold calls in the nfc championship game and i said motherfucker they aren't going to call holding on EITHER team, so just deal with it

Well then quit chastising the saints for something that all manner of players and personal have said is not uncommon and many teams have done.

If that is going to be your justification for their actions then you need apply that across the board where it applies.

I agree wholeheartedly. The whole fanbase would be seething.

Though in Hargroves defense it has been reported the injury was NOT rewarded, though he did admit to being happy about Favre being out and cheering about it - which isnt something all too uncommon in the NFL.

Cracked my L4 vertebrae when a 300lb OL fell on top of me in a dogpile. Played 3 more games with excruciating pain before being put in a brace for 9 weeks. Played some college ball afterwards.

Would do it ALL over again.

The Saints are the ones that were warned by the NFL and kept doing it anyway. Not the same at all no matter how hard you try to compare them. I do think that the NFL is partly to blame though as they did practically zero followup.

But agreed, oh well. I wouldn't trade my 10+ years of football for anything. Probably the fondest times of my life, and we were fucking terrible in High School

I played my first two years of High School. Running back and Safety. I stopped growing and everyone got taller and bigger.

I still remember my last play. I lit up some guy going across the middle and knocked the ball incomplete for a 4th down. The guy got up and said "I'm going to destroy you next time you touch the ball." I laughed at him and jogged off the field.

We were driving and I got called in to run the ball on a 2nd down. I ran it up the gut and got absolutely obliterated by the same mother fucker, number 9. Concussed and a broken hand.

I played four years total. I never got a real terrible injury though. My worst injuries are from skateboarding (broken ankle) and basketball (fractured wrist).

If you are going to use the excuse that other teams committed the same offenses as your team you relinquish the right to criticize others for using that same justification.

Personally ive said what the saints have done is deplorable. Ive just added that what you all did is deplorable as well. You are the one here criticizing saints fans for using the same rationalizations you are using(wheres the evidence? other teams were doing it!).

But I didn't use that excuse. I am merely pointing out that if you are using it then you have to use it with the Pats too who apparently stole a Super Bowl according to you. You are the one using that excuse, I didn't.

When I lived in California our shitty team lost every damn week.
In Florida we had a better team, but I wanted no part of it.
Because my friend told me the coach wanted to "get his hands on me."

Maybe i should of bolded but my response was to the posters implication that the saints were shitty people.......I said other teams did the same thing as means to keep this story in the bigger context. I wasnt excusing the actions with the statement. I even qualified as such in the statement by saying what was done was despicable.
