NFL Off-Season Thread: "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?"

Hello NFL-GAF,

I thought I'd pop in and say hello as my account just got approved. I've been following the weekly threads all season and am fully prepared for the hate I am about to get being a Packers fan. I see how well Madtown was received when he first popped in earlier this year.

What's your AFC team?

Building shit is awesome you lazy bum.
My only experience with putting furniture together has been Ikea garbage and some of the furniture we got for the twins.

I hated that and I hated shop in school.

Fuuuuck that shit.

Anyways, I am out. I have drive to Williamsport for work (ugh, what a shithole).

Well there is your problem. Go get a bunch of oak lumber and build some simple shelving from scratch to get started!

Is that what your father in law thinks too?

No. He basically has a carpenter on retainer that does his shit for him. It's gross (but fuck the things his guy makes are amazing...I need to apprentice).

Detroit people?

Lol slo

Don't hide from the truth. Embrace the Tigers fan inside you.

Yay I so happy we got in the Playoffs, whoo, yay. At least we got in, future 23 year stud qb. Tranfarrer at WR so good, bears are like cutler, suck!

This is Sanchez' year to take a step forward, like Eli in year 4.
This is the year to get a real backup QB in there, so at least Sanchez' job can legitimately be threatened.
This is the year to build a WR corps that features a consistent deep threat opposite Holmes so the passing game can work efficiently.
This is the year to get Wayne Hunter as far away from the starting lineup as possible - gotta build depth.
This is the year to get a guy who can consistently pressure the QB, and a guy that can legitimately defend TEs.

...but we'll probably draft someone we don't need. LOL TRADER MIKE

Hopefully this is the year they realize how important a pass rush is, and one that doesn't take 8 of your defensive players to do it. We have great run stoppers on the DL, but trash as far as pass rushers.

And yeah, legit competition for Sanchez would be great.

AFC team? Who has two favorite teams?

Meet Tabris, he has 3 teams.

Slo, loves the Patriots and Vikings in that order.

Jakncoke, she loves both the Seahawks and the Steelers, but mostly the Seahawks.

I almost forgot about the biggest Pats fan here, Bionic, who also likes the Steelers.

Ah the Browns Superbowl season has arrived. Please get me a RDE and some offensive talent at the skill positions.

:jnc Not a single mention of how terrible a ball it was. Welker would have been better off to not even attempt the circus grab. Teflon Tammy will not be criticized!

Wow, Boston really is pissed about all of this. This is a community/fan base that really needs to check itself. This is seriously distasteful.

Oh well, let them tear themselves apart from the inside.

They fight hyperbole with hyperbole, that's how Boston sport fans roll most of the time.

Packers GAF just got bigger. Even when we lose we grow.

Welcome.

Remember when Boston sports fans weren't basically New York Jr. when it came to their attitude towards sports?

Yeah I miss the 90s also.

You mean when the Red Sox ran Roger Clemens out of town? The 90s were far worse for Boston than the 00s.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of green and gold avatars this offseason!

I mean when Boston sports fans seemed more knowledgeable and humble when it came to everything sport. Basically before all the track suit wearing chowda heads got involved.

Lord Brady put too much air on it, but, if you get two hands on a ball, you've got to nab it.
He seems like a bit of a nutjob. Hopefully the calming influence of the Rooneys can get him to act like a sane person.

I do like the idea that he will get in Ben's face and try and limit how many shots he takes downfield. I also hope he can improve our RZ offense, which has sucked for a long time.

I mean he had a lot of success in Zona, but how much of that was him and how much of it was the trifecta of Warner, Fitz and the Almighty?

Oh well, I guess we will find out soon enough. I was hoping we brought in someone new. Hopefully Haley has some links to a good offensive line coach and brings him along with him. We desperately need a good coach there.
Seriously. Accusing your former employers of wiring your phones is insane. Well, the Steelers seem to know what they're doing 9 times out of 10.

Unless it involves the offensive line.

It was a bad pass and a bad drop.

Only solution is to cut them both.

I will retire Matthews' tear once the draft starts rolling around. I am still in mourning

First of all, New York Jr ?

Second of all, during a good part of the 90s, I still pooped in diapers, I also miss the 90s man.

TJ Yates was a special team gaffe from beating the Ravens. It was a strange year. I am of the belief that you always try and make sure you have a top 10 QB on your team, or are actively trying to get one. Look at Alex's road splits this year. Terrible performance. Harbaugh maxed him out, and the only reason to keep Alex is if they think Kapernick is the guy but needs more seasoning.

As a Rams fan, I hope Alex is signed to a mega-extension. And yes, this is it for Bradford. He needs to show it next season or the 2013 off-season should be about finding his replacement. Just b/c you've failed with developing and drafting, doesn't mean you stop trying

We could put fucking david akers out there and the rams wouldnt stand a chance. He already proved he has a better arm than bradford with that laser to crabcakes on the fake fg against you guys!

Sure, he's short and he's a ginger, but he can't be from Boston because he's not drunk and he's not looking for a fight.

I think you didn't know Boston sports fans very well then because while they were certainly humble before '04, '01 to a certain extent, they've never been very knowledgeable. Remember this is the same fan base that perpetuated Dan Shaughnessy's stupid curse shit. They are loyal to the team not the players and that will never change. Personally I think it's stupid to get really upset about Brady or Welker. Just be upset that the Giants played shitty and so did the Pats but the Giants ended up winning.

Sure, he's short and he's a ginger, but he can't be from Boston because he's not drunk and he's not looking for a fight.

Go shovel some snow you yeti.

Believe it or not, Boston used to not be a town of braggarts with an "F U this is mother f'ing bean town!!!11!1" attitude. Having lived amongst you all, despite all of your hate for New York and the people that live there, you guys have the exact same obnoxious swagger.

edit: in my defense, I never met a boston sports fan pre 01' so I was taking a lot of sports writers' word that the fans there used to be a lot better. I mostly remember the days of Wade Boggs and Larry Bird when Boston was a town that was not a whole heck of a lot better than Cleveland in sports (sans basketball).

Aaaahahahahahahahaha!!!! He actually wore it!

How else would we know Where 'Trel At (TM)!

Signed up for the gaming and WrassleGAF, but had to pop into the NFL thread.

Unhealthily obsessed Giants fan. My 'primary' message board is Giants-specific, but needed some topic discussion that that demographic doesn't touch. Thus, GAF... after an 8 month wait.

I've watched the Super Bowl a few times now. The third time, not completely but jumping around a few quarters and a few things jumped out at me I wanted to mention:

- Steve Weatherford was the third most important player in that game behind Eli and Mario. He had an incredible game pinning the Pats offense at the 10 line or less three times. It would have been four had the Giants been in a better position on the one that went into the end zone. Weatherford is one of the least mentioned and most integral pickups the Giants made in the offseason. Coming off of one of the best of all time in Feagles to the disaster that was Dodge, what a difference a quality punter makes.

- LJ mentioned it earlier but it bears mentioning again - Kareem MacKenzie was brutal. It wasn't just a play here or there. He was completely dominated on the right side by Ninkovich all game long. Had it not been for the Giants RB's and Hynoski chipping and being as good as they are in pass protection, Eli would have had a long day.

I'll keep hammering the point: The offensive line needs major work in the offseason. Mac isn't being resigned so a new RT will be on the field next season. Diehl won't be playing LG next season either (I have to give him props for his improved play at LT though!).

- Speaking of Hynoski - he played his best game as a Giant. He was positively Madison Hedgecock like in his blocking. There were plays where he completely blew the Patriots linebakers away only have Bradshaw run away from the hole like he saw a ghost or something.:( Two areas where he made even Madison look bad:

1. He was pretty damn good protecting Manning when he was in there chipping.
2. He can catch and run. Hedgecock had stone hands, while Hyno can take it for a first when he catches the ball. Yet another undrafted free agent pickup by Reese that had major impact for the season and especially the big game.

Went to dinner with my father last night. He told my that my aunt and uncle are celebrating the Super Bowl win. I asked why. He tells me it's because their nephew Justin Tuck got another ring. Like, I never put together that we call my aunt, Tuck, and the fact that she's from Alabama...shit should have been obvious, apparently. Thanks, pops. Some information I could have used a few days/years ago...

Congrats cousin Justin.

Really it's because all of the winning happened. Growing up in the 90s there was all this pessimism where we always had these flashes of looking promising but ultimately unable to deliver.

All the winning that happened in the last decade brought out the lifelongs out of the woodwork who really had no emotional interest in the teams prior to the championship run. The continued winning allowed them to stay in the open and develop that holier than thou attitude.

I just know my dad who wants Bledsoe back and who likes baseball more than anything.

Oh I know it, just giving the Pats fans a hard time.

Most of the fans here in NFL-GAF aren't too horrible, even the Pats fans, really this last season it was just a few Lions fans acting salty like their coach.

Looking forward to the Post-Brady/BB days when Boston returns to its old self! It really is a nice city too.
