Matthew Stafford looks to take a page from Peyton Manning's book

Stafford hopes to get some workouts in with Calvin Johnson in Atlanta sometime in July and the hope is that some of the Lions other players will join them.

“I think it’s big,” Stafford said. “I’m obviously in Atlanta quite a bit, so Calvin’s right there, throw with him some. But try to find a way to get together with some of the other guys as well.”

"This team is a hard-working team and we go away, we come back in great shape," Stafford said. "But there's no substitute for running routes for a receiver and catching the ball from the guy you're going to be catching the ball from during the season. And there's really no substitute for me throwing to a spot — and throwing to somebody that's not on our team, it just isn't as beneficial as being together and doing that. So hopefully we'll get together and do some of that."

No most QBs don't get together with their receivers and do extra training after mandatory team training camp ends.

Is fat fuck Ben Roethlisberger getting together with Antonio Brown and some of his other receiving group after OTAs and mandatory workouts?

Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and others could be in the Bahamas but they're putting in that extra work that separates the good from the great.

The heat thing, as far as the UK is concerned, is because it's only this hot for like two weeks out of the year. So homes which are designed to stay as warm as possible for the other 50 weeks become torture chambers.

My brother wants to get some AC installed but I don't see the point. He looks at making the house comfortable for a fortnight a year, I look at the months and months of pizza we could buy with that money instead.

Pretty sure every QB does this, as the pre-season is right after training camp.

The great players get their work in before they hit the summer buffet tour. The lazy, fat players start thinking about it three weeks before camp starts.

It's only news for people covering the Lions because its the first time any of them have seen Fatford voluntarily forgo his daily pilgrimage to Krispy Kreme in favour of some exercise.

JaMarcus Russell wasn't just whistling dixie when he said he'd be holding private, extracurricular workouts with his receiving corps this off-season. Russell literally flew them to Dixie, all expenses paid, to a secret site in Alabama where these private practices are reportedly currently taking place.

The NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora reports that school is in session, JaMarcus-style, somewhere in Alabama right now. LaCanfora confirms that rookie Louis Murphy, ex-Chief and new Raider Will Franklin, and waiver wire pickup Todd Watkins are currently in attendance. More Raiders may show up as the week-long session continues.

LaCanfora's report confirms as truth Russell's claim that he'd be holding private workouts for teammates before training camp.

Good to hear. It's very important that they develop chemistry. So much talk has centered around the defense - specifically how far of a decline it'll take without Suh. But IMO the biggest issue with this team for the 2015-2016 season will be the offense, and whether Stafford can take the next step. The offense was bad last year. Horribly inconsistent, lifeless against good teams, unable to score touchdowns, etc. Stafford completed 60% of his passes sure, but more often than not he was missing easy throws or not seeing wide open guys (I've been hard on Ebron but let's be real: dude should have had 3-4 extra TDs last year due to being wide fucking open but Stafford not seeing him).

A third threat needs to step up. With our o-line improved and healthy, Ebron will be able to spend more time exploiting defenses instead of blocking. It shouldn't be hard for him to exploit LBs and get good yardage this year; same applies to the other TEs. Meanwhile Abdullah and Riddick will be potent backfield threats. Tate will be Tate. If all this works on paper, Megatron will be able to exploit matchups and really go crazy if he can stay healthy.

But all that is ON PAPER. Stafford now has the weapons and o-line to put up some great numbers. IF he can't do it...it's time to move on, period.
