It's a new season in a weird world for America's favorite sport. The most explosive offseason in a while saw Superbowl MVP Patrick Mahomes sign a 10 year, 500+ million dollar contract, Chucky and the Raiders move into their new home in Las Vegas, and of course TB12 pulls Gronk out of retirement and assembles his new crew in Tampa Bay.

Here are the games

@Minnesota is not how I wanted to start the season right off the bat.

I'm still expecting this season to be cut short or delayed if Covid surges again during cold/flu season.

I'm usually so hyped for football but between Covid and losing Brady it doesn't feel right. I'm guessing there's not going to be any fans in the stadiums?

Some teams will have a limited capacity. I heard in the news that this is based on owner discrepancy. Some teams are waiting a couple more weeks longer. It also depends on local governments and their allowance of crowds.

PIcks are in. I have no Idea what is going to happen this Season as a Pats fan and I can't wait to see how things unfold with Brady down in Tampa and Cam here in New England. Either one could be a Train Wreck or A Success. As long as nothing Covid related happens it is going to be A well enjoyed distraction from everything else in this clown world

I can‘t help but laugh at these clowns thinking they’re making any sort of positive change. Congrats on enabling criminals and having sky high crime rates.

Naturally everyone in social media calling the fans who booed racists. It couldn’t possible be because they don’t like politics in their sports, could it?
The "fans" didn't seem to mind the politics up until now though now did they. No they didn't. But now that it's politics they don't agree with they are mad.

It's not the fact the politics are there. It's that it's politics they don't like.

Doesn’t matter. Doesn’t make them racist and doesn’t mean they don’t have the right to boo. They paid money for tickets, didn’t like what they saw and voiced their displeasure.

I never said they didn't have the right to boo? I'm just pointing out their hypocrisy for doing so.

The vocal minority is always the loudest though so it doesn't really matter.

Pretty sure it's not a minority. When the Kaepernick protests were happening the NFL ratings straight tanked.

What’s hypocritical about it? It’s not hypocritical to cheer something you like and boo something you don’t like.

It’s no different than cheering your team scoring a TD and booing when the opponent scores a TD. Both football plays, but you boo the one you don’t like.

Woah a poll?! I'm talking actual ratings, you know the people who actually watch the sport.
If people stop watching football because the players support equality and an end to police brutality then I feel like those people need to take a look at their priorities.

Btw I don’t consider the national anthem politics, it’s really not. It’s patriotism not politics. The bottom line is people don’t like being preached to. If there was a pre game MAGA display, that would’ve been booed too.

People are just sick and tired of being told they’re awful, the country is awful, and they’re all racists.

They stopped watching it because they don't want politics in their sports. They want to come home from a hard days work, because some people still actually work in this country and have a release. It's not rocket science.

No I'm saying it's hypocritical for people to say "get politics out of my sports" like your first post was saying when politics have been there for decades and people were just fine with it. It's not that they don't want politics it's that they don't want politics they don't like. So being okay with it before and not being okay with it now is in fact hypocritical.

What politics have been there? The national anthem isn’t politics. I don’t recall politics being in football at all really. Not just in football in any sport.

The anthem and all the "patriotism" that goes with it is political even if you personally don't feel like it is. Also we have been supporting the troops for years. Also political.

And I'm not saying we shouldn't do those things btw. I'm just making an observation.

I really don't think that qualifies as politics. It's tradition. It's in the same vein as celebrating a holiday. I don't think the current social justice movements are even remotely similar. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed, I defend all first amendment rights to peacefully express themselves in any way they choose, but I don't think booing it is hypocritical.

If the same fans cheered some other type of political movement but booed that I'd agree with you. But the national anthem was practically biological, it's just something people did before a game like toasting before a meal. Then people watched the games.

But I do believe strongly if any message was being preached even a more conservative one, the fans would still boo if it was overly preachy.

😂 The hypocrisy of having an opinion.

"Oh you didn't boo the flag and America before. You like politics then." What?

Anyway onto the game....the Texans looked better than I thought, but yeah the score is pretty much what I expected.

Welcome to the tank season Houston

What political party do the American flag and American military belong to? Last I checked they both represent America as a whole and the military serve every single citizen of this country regardless of views or political allegiance. If anything they are the most nonpolitical things to be involved with sports.

The people mocking the people booing now are the same people that would flip out every single time a flag or soldier was shown during a game, or a player kneeled to pray. If you want to make the argument that these are political I'll buy it, but then you have to acknowledge who actually wanted politics out of sports first.

I spent well over 10 years participating in real time chat gameday threads on a pretty big message board. The mocking every time there was any hint of patriotism or religion was like clockwork.

Watch the NFL and their shills twist themselves into infinite pretzels to explain this away for every reason but the obvious. The fact is, ratings dropped Kaepernick's kneeling became the biggest story, then started going back up when the focus was back to the sport. Now if they're back down, what else could it be?

At one point the SJWs in the NFL and at ESPN realized that people didn't watch sports for this, and toned it down. But they just can't help themselves.

And lol, "unity"
