I'm going to ignore my Super Bowl pick, because I had no faith in it being anywhere near accurate, but I will say the following.

My Ed Reed pick looks good. That's about it. I don't think I could have possibly picked worse in the AFC, and the Saints came with a disclaimer that I knew it was insane.

Since we've established my prognostication excellence, let's move on to this week's picks.

Arizona at Detroit, 1:00 p.m.(Come on, Denny. John fucking Navarre? Even he's got to admit that he shouldn't be on the field)
Atlanta at Tampa Bay, 1:00 p.m. (Tampa plays Atlanta well in general...but I can't pick them here)
Buffalo at Miami, 1:00 p.m.
Carolina at New Orleans, 1:00 p.m. (This just may be the least predictable game in the history of the NFL, if it weren't for the fact that Oakland just smacked down Denver in the fucking snow.)
Cincinnati at Baltimore, 1:00 p.m.
Houston at N.Y. Jets, 1:00 p.m.
Minnesota at Chicago, 1:00 p.m. (I'm picking Minnesota in the cold? Yeah. Two reasons. Chad, and fucking Hutchinson.)
New England at Cleveland, 1:00 p.m.
San Francisco at St. Louis, 1:00 p.m.
Tennessee at Indianapolis, 1:00 p.m.
Denver at San Diego, 4:05 p.m.
Kansas City at Oakland, 4:05 p.m.(When in doubt, go for the home team? When in doubt, go for the team with better talent on paper? Is Priest Holmes going to be back? Can I just bet that less than half the country will pick this game correctly?)
Green Bay at Philadelphia, 4:15 p.m. (Green Bay is the best team in the NFC. They'll put up 250 on the ground against the Eagles, and that'll be a terrifc job of containing the run. No, seriously. Najah Davenport averaged 9 per last night, if Philly holds Green Bay to 6 ypc, it's a big moral victory)
N.Y. Giants at Washington, 4:15 p.m.
Pittsburgh at Jacksonville, 8:30 p.m.
Dallas at Seattle, 9:00 p.m.(Seriously. Who can pick these games? Seattle gave up nearly forty to the fucking Bills....IN SEATTLE. I have no clue.)

Please. Eagles run defense was worse last year and we beat the packers twice.

I'm gonna fucking cut Kurt Warner with a rusty blade.

Giants running game is better than the Steelers' (statistically)! And with even less carries!

How the fuck does Warner have room to talk? Go fucking turn the ball over, douche. Stop coaching Eli on how to take sacks and throw ints.

Edit: Upon further review, Steelers have more rushing yards on the strength of 124 more carries. Steelers = 3.9 yards per carry, Giants = 4.7 ypc. What was it that I said about bad playcalling from Tom Cocklick? Yeah, this is what I meant. Let's keep passing!

Green Bay and Philly will probably be the game of the week.....unless Tennesee decides to show up and Manning gets to stay in all game, rather than leaving after the half with 7 TDs :D

Tenn held Manning to two TDs and 285 yards last time they played. Should be a good one.

hey, in Warner's defense, he was doing all he could to lift any blame from Eli as well as praising his ability. Not his fault he's gotten so many head on collisions.

TMQ Proposes a Moratorium on Praising Brett Favre

Brett Favre is a fabulous player and a lot of fun to watch. Green Bay is a favorite team of yours truly: Not long ago I wrote in this space, "If TMQ were arriving on Earth aboard an alien starcruiser, after checking out the NFL, I'd pick the Packers as my team to love." But enough, already, with the media worship of Favre. First, he's not a "hero," nor is any professional athlete a hero for accepting millions of dollars to chase a ball. Heroism requires risk and sacrifice in a larger cause; heroism is, for example, volunteering to serve in Afghanistan. Second, while Favre performs very well, he's also benefiting himself in the process, through pay and by acquiring the prominence that brings his endorsement income. There's nothing wrong with earning high income or achieving celebrity, but the media suggestion that Favre is some kind of simple country boy motivated solely by love of sport actually sells him short: He's shown a sophisticated understanding of how to manipulate the modern media. Hagiography of Favre is now excessive, and may even backfire by making people sick of him. Favre is a charming guy who plays football really well. It is enough to say that, and save our hero-worship for those who act in service to others.

I think Warner is the chosen scapegoat for Giant fans. Even when he doesn't play he is the reason they lose.

Eli needs to start watching how Ben plays, he is trying to do way too much for a rookie. With someone like Tiki and a decent defense the qb doesn't need to win the game, he just needs to not lose it.

Edit: What is the word on the injuries of Plax and Duce? Seems like Duce must be ready by now. Duce coming back is going to be huge and really help our running game out a lot. The Bus really can't cut back and doesn't have the big play ability anymore. Duce is simply on another level. And our passing game is really hurting without Plax (and Duce) on the field.

I think Duce and Plax are both possible for next week. I'm honestly surprised that the Bus has done as well as he has, though. It can't last forever but he's been impressive for somebody who's definitely not at the level he used to be.

oh, and sadly, Wilbon and Kornheiser both lost the toss-up on whether Peyton or Favre will be the better QB, although they had a good reason (favre because he has a ring).

Cowher said Duce will start. Said he's not sure how many carries he will get though, they don't want to put like 30 carries on him in his first game back. Which makes sense.

Plax is listed as questionable. They'll see how he is on thursday and friday. My guess is he'll be chomping at the bit to get out on in the field in Jacksonville. If he plays, Randle El will go back to kickoff return duty.

I'll link to my post in the NFL week 12 topic regarding the Giants' performance on sunday: http://www.ga-forum.com/showpost.php?p=683755&postcount=367

Key points (some I hit on above):

1) Tiki is ridiculously overlooked in the scheme and in this city. Though in his defense, he cut his knee on the first play of the game and that required six stitches (And he still managed to reel of 18 carries for 106 yards).

2) Giants have talent that isn't being used properly by the coaching staff/play callers. Oh look two long 50 yard passes to our third WR, oh hey it's the deep threat we had always wanted and we're finding this out now in week 12. Oh shit, our O-Line can't handle pressure of any kind, let's play with empty backfield formations.

Warner isn't my scapegoat by a longshot, I was just irritated he made such an ignorant comment after being with the team for almost a full season. I do, however, find it funny that the sports fans in the city are making any and every excuse possible for Eli.

Anyway, I got two games of the week. One is, as I alluded to above, Indy versus Tenn. Tennessee was up 17-10 going into the fourth quarter before collapsing and allowing 21 points in that period alone. With McNair passing for over 250 yards and Brown having gashed them for 150 on the ground, I think that Tenn's offense can hang with the output the Colts will have against their defense. Unfortunately Chris Brown still has the turf toe injury.

My other game of the week is obviously Philly and Green Bay. Najeh was impressive last night against the Rams, and will hopefully continue his strong running against the Iggles, assuming Green doesn't come back.

Question for St Louie fans:

Why did they let Sean Landeta go with a punting average of 43.3 and a net of 34 yards? Age, injury, combo, need for another spot with two punters on the roster?

BTW, the other guy has had only 2 punts with a average of 30 yards and net 30 total. I'm guessing injury did Landeta in.

"Want to see the best kicker in the game? Watch (David) Akers from Philadelphia. The ball just explodes off his foot. He's made 14 of 16 from 40 yards or more this year and he gets his share of touchbacks on kickoffs. The guy doesn't get noticed that much, given that galaxy of stars in Philly, but he really is something else."

Great news about Duce, he really brings our running game to the next level.

I thought Cowher decided that El was just going to be doing punt returns now? I will take either Duce or Plax, both is better of course but without either it really limits what we can do in our offense. Bettis is just straight north-south now, haven't seen him cut back in a loooooong time. He is great in short yardage situations though because he won't fumble with his crazy method of carrying the ball. Not as crazy as Tiki's robot hold, but hey it works for both of them. As much as I love Ward, I am starting to think if we had to choose we gotta go with Plax.

Couldn't have happened against a better team. BTW DM, thanks for dropping the avatar, we've been on a roll ever since.

Of course, I've been in NJ the past two weeks and unable to see the games, leading to every die-hard sports fan's dilemna. Was the team winning because I didn't watch the games? My dad actually quit watching Duke in the Final Four due to this disease, and they won 3 National Championships. Do I have to sacrifice my love of the Panthers to get them to squeek into the playoffs? :(

Landeta = scapegoat, simple as that. Martz wanted to shake up our ST and send a message. Landeta wasn't that good anyway, he *was* part of the problem, but not even close to all of it. He often outkicked coverage, which gives PR's some room to run.
But Stemke looked OK, no big deal.

Now you guys might think i'm crazy, but i think if ike doesn't fumble those 2 passes, and martz tries the FG, we would have won last night. that 45-17 score is very misleading. Had the game been in the ED, we would have beaten GB comfortably. I personally think mcnabb is going to destroy that packer defense this week.

DJ_tet, are you going to the rams-panthers game by any chance? I'm trying to get tickets for my birthday. I've never been to a NFL game before in my life, so i'd really like to go see the rams play. I'm looking around on ebay, and most tickets are for upper level seats, how's the view from there? Would I be able to see the action pretty easily?

I was actually thinking about trying to go to that game. I live three hours away from Charlotte, so it can't really be a spur of the moment thing for me. As you probably know, all the games sold out before the season started, but eBay is a pretty good place to get tickets. There are also a lot of scalpers in Charlotte, and if the Panthers lose this weekend, the tickets won't be in very high demand.

As for the view, it's awesome in the upper deck. I actually prefer it to the lower deck due to the angle. The stadium was built up instead of out, so you don't feel like you are that far away. When you look at the field, you only see a handful of rows below you, and you have a unique view of the football game. You see how plays develop with the above angle, much better than you could on TV. For your first NFL game, there are a lot worse stadiums to go to than Bank Of America.

El was doing punts only cause he was also moved to starting WR. They couldn't afford to put him under extra risk. If Plax can go, El will return to both punt and kick return duty. Which will also be a good thing, he seems to be getting really hot as a returner.

Bettis, I think, has performed better than any of us would have expected. He has shown a few extra moves I didn't think he had left. Make no mistake though, the reason he's done so well is because of the line play and the fact that he was extremely well rested with Duce being the starter. It'll be real sweet to get that one/two combo back.

Ward's dropoff, like the passing game in general, is due to a number of things.... no Plax, a severe lack of other receiving threats after El, more pressure getting to Ben, Ben getting happy feet and missing some plays and, of course, just simply less passing plays being called. As to why Ward has dropped some balls these past few weeks, that I can't answer. He did seem to bounce back some in the second half against the skins though. I'll be anxious to see what happens with the return of Duce.

the best move of the offseason was NOT signing a bum ass veteran QB who would only stunt the growth of future hall of famers Tim Rattay and Ken Dorsey. Rattay is montana, Dorsey is steve young. wow, what a tough call on who to start.... i feel bad for erickson. a great problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. i'll go out on a limb and say the niners will go 19-0 (counting playoffs) this year. and if last years prediction was any indication, i'm going to be getting PAID BIG TIME LADIES!

enjoy the good times while they last niner haters, it is the 10 year anniversary of our last superbowl and its time to reclaim our title! suck it down losers!

I'm sorry FMT :lol
