In 1999, Ward, tied for the team lead, caught 61 passes for 7TDs from a Tomczak/Stewart QB combo. And he wasn't even a starter at the beginning of the season. In 2000, he lead the team with 48 catches for 4TDs from a Kent Graham (That's right, Kent freaking Graham)/Stewart QB combo. In 2001, he caught 94 from Kordell Stewart. In 2002 he caught 112 for 12TDs from a Stewart/Maddox combo. Last year, during an abysmal offensive year from a team standpoint, he caught 95 for 10TDs from Maddox. Now he's got 49 from a red hot rookie. He's just Mr. Consistent. Plays hard, blocks hard, catches almost everything week in and week out, year in and year out, regardless of who's throwing the ball. I wonder what Harrison's numbers would be like with guys like Tomczak and Graham throwing the ball.
Meanwhile, Plax has been up and down since 2001. Though I am impressed with his play at this point this year. Not so much from a numbers perspective, but it seems like he keeps his head in the game for the full 60 minutes now. It's like Ben has turned him into a new player. He was even blocking all the way down field on the Bettis' last run of the game yesterday.
