NHL April 2014 |OT| Waiting for the playoff thread...

They played great last night though, Fleury stole that game (or Monster lost it). I hope we can hold on to the 1st WC, against Boston I think we'd need at least one of Ericsson/Z back, maybe both to have a chance.

Babcock seemed very relieved in the postgame. Most open I've heard him be about our shit luck injury wise and how much better the kids are than the washed up vets playing at the start of the year.

Eh, I thought the first was decent, second sucked, and the third was ok. At least the kids got us the point. My only fear is that we are going to sign Kyle Q again. We need to let him go and bring in a #1 or #2 D man badly, then drop Lashoff or Kindl and call up Marchenko or one of our other young D kids.

Huh, I thought we dominated 5-on-5. Some stupid penalties and soft goals from Monster kept them in it. Then they got lucky as hell in the SO. Not that it matters, that tying goal felt like a Game 7 OT winner.

Q has been solid for a while now. Wouldn't be ecstatic about bringing him back but there's not much out there. Maybe a new GM in Vancouver can allow for a realistic Edler trade to happen, I would LOVE to bring him over if it doesn't mean giving up all our 1st picks in every draft and all our good prospects. We should definitely move Kindl and give Almqvist or Marchenko the #7 D spot though.

We did look pretty good 5 on 5, still thought we could have played better though, seemed to get hemmed in our zone for a long time a few times.

Also agree about Almqvist and Marchenko, they are both ready to play, Almqvist with his play in GR and Marchenko who did play in the KHL.

Which one are you breaking this time? :p

And I know that the V9E's have durability issues, so it probably will break. Oh well, not like I haven't spent a pretty penny on stick lately. I just really like the Eastons. But a 250 dollar stick for 150 (even though it is a prostock) is too good to pass up. I still have my new APX2 two piece as a good backup though, but the two piece just feels off to me which is why I still wanted a one piece again.

Peter Granberg got called up to the Leafs, actually looking forward to the remaining games now. RANDY PLS PLAY HIM!

Who is Granberg comparable to?

However, Poile could pull the trigger on a monstrous blockbuster if he decides to move captain Shea Weber.

Multiple league sources have told TFP that Predators ownership is concerned with the bonus payments structured in Weber's contract, a deal he originally signed with the Philadelphia Flyers as a restricted free agent that was matched by Nashville.

Weber is due $13 million July 1 with the balance the remaining $1 million owed to him spread out over the course of the season.

This trend continues in 2015-16, and for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, he'll be due $8 million right off the bat, with $4 million spread out over the season. His salary then dips from there until his contract expires after the 2025-26 campaign.

If the Predators decide to field offers for Weber, it is believed that they would demand a first-line goal-scorer and top-pairing defenseman as part of a package for him.

Poile could explore the market leading up to the June 27-28 NHL Draft in Philadelphia.

One of Van Riemsdyk/Kessel + Phaneuf. Get 'er done Leiweke.

I use a v9e now and I like it but yeah durability is an issue with this stick. I'm already getting a lot of chipping by the toe of the blade, which is troublesome because that's where I shoot from.

Weber for Legwand and Quincey!!! :D

I have always liked Easton and all my other old Easton sticks lasted forever. If it can last longer than my RS2 (2 months) I will call this a success. I have learned out of my other broken sticks over the months to not work on deflections, one timers, or get the stick caught in between the zamboni doors.

It would need to be Kessel, not JVR, but that wouldn't happen as it's too much salary taken back. NSH is worried about the economics more than the players. So it would most likely be for cheaper star prospects.

You know who should trade for him? Edmonton.

It would probably take Kessel + Rielly to get him
Don't see how we can afford to do that since Kessel is essentially all of our offence...

Oh I forgot to tell you the bad news. Pro stocks break easier than retail haha.

Honestly, if I was the Leafs my core would be Rielly, JVR and Bernier.

This team will be in limbo for a long time the way they're constructed.

Trading Kadri and Gardiner will be nothing more than a diagonal move.

Ovechkin+Carlson
Pacioretty+Subban
Couture+Vlasic
Neal+Letang
Duchene+Johnson

Can't see anybody trading for Weber if that's the price.
Seriously. No one is doing those trades, Weber's amazing but when the price is that high you handicap your team.

Also LOL @ Patches & Subban I wouldn't trade Subban for Weber straight up.

I would.

Though I'd probably want to do Subban for the Oilers 1st and Yakupov instead.

Come on now. This is the dumbest thing I've heard so far in the April thread.
Weber is better now but he's 28, and Subban is 24 with a Norris already and putting up the same numbers. Not that hard to figure out.

You've been spending too much time on Hfboards with your Cap's UFA signings

Subban won in a half season. Subban is an offensive threat, but Shea Weber brings the entire package. He thumps harder than anyone but perhaps Chara. He plays a clean game. He can shut down a lot of top players. And he plays behind a shitty team where he is outscoring everyone as a d-man, so you have to factor in how he would do on a contender.

Welp, I wouldn't have it any other way. I was reading around and it seemed mixed in terms of durability compared to regular sticks. Some say they break faster because they are lighter, others say they are more durable to take the abuse the NHL or higher leagues dish out.

The last person I'm going to discuss D men with is the guy who watches 20 Canucks games a year. If you spend more than 2 minutes thinking about it, a straight up swap between the two is stupid.

There are a few underdogs to cheer for! No Caps make me sad and my hope was always foolish, so out of the east I'll be watching the Habs games, and seeing the Blue Jackets go on a run would be fun to watch maybe since they've never done anything. The West is always a little more tricky, seeing the Blackhawks win makes my Dad happy, so that's ok, other then that... ehhhhhhhhhhh.

Yeah, I think I'll do my usual routine and switch it up to a playoff avatar shortly too when it starts.

Go with a Flyers avatar!

You're the one blinded by your bias and fandom. Subban was a replacement player this year in the olympics. If he's such a stud, why wasn't he being played instead of Doughty or Keith or Pietrangelio. Because while being an offensive threat and PP specialist, he isn't as good as those others. And Shea Weber is the best among all 6.

Because Therrien treats him like dog shit, and the coach isn't going to use a guy who isn't even trusted by his own coach to play on the PK. I said Weber is better right now, but apparently you're incapable of seeing past next week which is surprising seeing how badly all your destiny cheerleading went down the shitter. You don't trade a guy who's 4 years younger at similar numbers, with a title for a guy who's peaked and will only decline.

Well they're close to falling back into a wildcard spot and playing the Pens or Bruins.

I'm half expecting some to try and offer sheet Subban at this point, especially as the Therrien stuff won't go away.
