Damn. Happy birthday, Marvie.

I've been to a number of Jays games and have missed out on foul balls. I've sat close to where it would land, but never close enough to catch.
Yeah. I've had some come within a few feet of me before but I was never able to get one.

Just remember... the Leafs traded Sundin after their long quest of failing to find him a #1 winger and it took almost 10 years to get a 1C again.

Well if it makes you happy, I helped facilitate Sundin's exit from Vancouver because of my previous industry.

Good to see him active with the 5th pick, though, and seeing if he can move down. Funny how attached they grew to Pettersson. Buffalo would have probably taken Mittelstadt at #5, Glass still at #6, but I wonder if NYR would have taken Pettersson instead of Andersson if he were available.

I think that's extremely likely.

Just to clear things up:

Sundin wasn't traded. He went into UFA as a Leaf.

That being said, the Habs had an exclusive negotiating window a week before July 1st at the time.

Grabovski was traded to the Leafs for Pateryn and a 2nd round pick, though at the time, it was seen partly as compensation for being able to negotiate with Sundin. I had to look this up, because I remember the media spinning it as Sundin being traded to Montreal for Grabovski.

Well if it makes you happy, I helped facilitate Sundin's exit from Vancouver because of my previous industry.

You worked for a Finnish party with a platform of getting rid of Swedes from BC?

What will Leafs look like opening day?

Marleau-Matthews-JVR
Nylander-Bozak-Marner
Komarov-Kadri-Brown
Martin-Moore-Kapanen

Zaitsev-Rielly
Hainsey-Gardiner
Carrick-Marincin

Andersen
McElhinney

I think the forwards look really good. The defense does not. Goaltending will be fine - Andersen showed us in the last third of the regular season and in the playoffs that he's pretty good.

The disparity in quality between the forwards and defense is pretty stark though. The Leafs don't really have any solid #1.

Edit: After seeing the lineup written out like that, anyone else think there is no room for Hyman anymore? Surely the Leafs won't re-sign him...

Why did you break up Matthews and Nylander and ditto for JVR-Bozak-Marner? No one has that line set up.

Where does Jagr fit in realistically? A team that wants to improve their powerplay but can play him on the 3rd or second line otherwise?

Let's look at Montreal's updated lines or the way I see it going moving forward.

Forward

Drouin Galchenyuk Gallagher
Pacioretty Danault Lehkonen/Hudon
Hudon/Lehkonen Plekanec Hemsky/Shaw
Byron Mitchell Shaw/Hemsky

Defenceman

Alzner/UFA Weber
Jerabek/Alzner Petry
Schlemko/Davidson/Morrow Benn

Price
Montoya

It feels like Montreal needs to add one more forward

there's always the chance matt martin comes down with a serious case of the Robidas Island Fever

lol good joke

Babcock on Matt Martin:

Not only is he a good player, he is a great man, and he treats those kids with kindness and with the firm hand of accountability at the same time. He's a good pro. He lives right. He acts right. He treats his teammates right. He's got a huge fan in me, I can tell you that.

Wow what a coincidence, The Firm Hand of Accountability was the name of the nü-metal band I played bass for in high school.

Kruger traded to Carolina or 5th round pick via Vegas

A 5th round pick is nice I guess, a low percentage shot at picking up a useful NHLer but... isn't Kruger worth more than that to VGK right now? And you'd think you could get a bit more than that for a decent-ish third line C if you wanted to trade him?

Pretty much all of the players on Vegas' roster will have to pass through waivers to play in the minors. Since they clearly don't plan on being competitive anytime soon, the plan is probably to trade as many of them as possible for assets before they have to make roster decisions and risk losing players for nothing.

Gonna be interesting to see what they do with their D. The only one who can pass through waivers is Theodore and I would be shocked if he's not on their opening night roster.

Garrison - Theodore
Mcnabb - Schmidt
Merrill - Miller
Stoner - Sbisa
Engelland - Reinhart
Hunt

I just can't stop thinking about Kruger on the Jets. A bottom 6 defensive forward veteran PK specialist? That would help so, so much.

Seems to me that Vegas totally screwed this up. There was a couple of directions they could have went. Build a team that can reasonably competitive now, but obviously that didn't happen. Or build a team full of potential for the future, and they've done a half ass job at that. They're going to need a bunch of draft luck before this team is any good.

So they're following the Oilers Model™ then

Yeah, I agree. McPhee has done a pretty shitty job so far.

Yeah that defense is rough, although their top 6 guys (their regulars) are mostly all fairly mobile and can skate. They'll really need Brannstrom to pan out though huh

those lines assume that hemsky won't be injured, which is just ridiculous
Or just floating. Adding Hemsky to the Habs isn't going to help.
That lineup isn't very encouraging but let's face it. They paid Price to carry the team. That's the decision they had to make long before now. Trade Price or pay him. They knew it was going to be costly to keep him.
