Hardcore anime fans.

I say this as someone who likes some anime too

It's a hard one. Both are unbearable and ignorant for different reasons. Hmm.

As long as they're not into tentacle porn and weird weebo stuff or borderline teenage girls, I'd prefer hanging out with someone who's into anime than someone who's really into the Penguins and has the intelligence of a rock. I think.

(thinking of the worst of the worst of both stereotypes, though probably giving anime hardcore fans too much credit above too)

Not at all. You're probably closer to a hardcore anime fan than a hardcore sports fan, I wager.

I dont even know
only sports team i regullary watch are the Penguins, Im not too attached to them, I was before 2010, I'd spend all day on hfboards and googling shit. I just got so pissed during our series with the flyers, I lost a lot of my hardcore-ness that year

Im only posting anime stuff since some of you hate it xD, im going to stop, i dont want to get banned, already posted some weird gifs today

Let's put you to the test. Do you think people who watch Studio Ghibli movies with the Disney dubs are shitty people? Same goes for those who watch Cowboy Bebop with the US dub and think it's even superior to the original Japanese. Are these people monsters?

I think its preference, i know some people have a hard time reading subtitles, or people like me which have bad hearing so i watch anime with subs even if its english xD

like i play persona 5 dubbed, and some people might find that stupid, its just preference to me, i dont get too involved with it.

Oh good. That's a reasonable answer.

I used to be stupidly snobbish about only watching "the original version" and only watching with subs. Now I realize that's utterly stupid and that there are dubs which are equally good or superior to the original. I watch all the Ghibli stuff with dubs because my kids are only 2 and 4 at the moment, and I don't mind it at all. Totoro, Kiki, and Castle in the Sky all sound just fine with the English voice actors.

I've been out of anime for over a decade and a half at this point. I hear about stuff like Attack on Titan and will occasionally peek in to see what's going on, but overall, most of the stuff doesn't interest me.

I don't know if I've ever seen any anime fan, hardcore or otherwise, try to claim that Bebop's dub is bad. That's an easy way to get laughed out of any discussion.

I watch everything dubbed whenever possible, save for some really early (up to around mid-90s or so) dubs. Subs always take me out of whatever I'm watching, even if just a little bit.

The "original version" argument doesn't mean a whole lot to me either, because Japanese is so structurally different from English that any subs worth a damn are going to be doing a lot of "localization" anyway.

the rule of thumb for me when both versions were available was if the characters are supposed to be speaking Japanese canonically (usually if the setting is Japan), then I'll watch it subbed. Otherwise dubbed.

It's always so annoying whenever people say JPN > ENG voice acting, despite the fact that there are many examples of bad voice acting even in the original version of the show (i.e. Fairy Tail which is well known to be mediocre at best). I generally prefer dubs, but I'll watch stuff Japanese if the dub sucks or if there is no other option.

what's After Hours?

In my experience. people usually resort to the "well, at least I can't understand how bad it is" defense when you point out issues with Japanese voice acting. Dealt with lots of that around Puyo Puyo Tetris's release.

Oh my.

I dunno, man. You wanna have dinner with a hardcore NASCAR fan from the southern US who has an American eagle driving a car as his FB profile pic, with the catch phrase "don't tread on me"?
As long as they are not hateful! Sure! I never watched NASCAR so it will give me a new perspective on the sport
