Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift have BAD BLOOD on Twitter

It can't be Taylor Swift so it has to be Iggy Azalea.

LOOOOL at Meek coming for Drake. Drake is going to wash Meek something fierce. Meek makes solid EPs while Drake makes anthems.
Why can't it be Swift? Just because Nicki didn't @ Swift, doesn't mean that wasn't where the original diss was going.
miley cyrus last year won voty for her... controversial video "Wrecking Ball"
There has to be someone or someones that prompted her to tweet it this year

Nicki gets a lot of hate for her music, but she's actually really good. She has her fair share of stupid songs, and she's not really leading the battle when it comes to any form of social justice, but she's a good rapper. Her verse on Kanye's Monster was so good that Kanye almost left it off the track because he thought it made the rest of them look bad.

It's also amazing that she has risen to this level of fame as a female in the rap/hip hop industry. Rappers like Kendrick and Macklemore aside, the rap industry is incredibly sexist. For a woman to be able to shirk the object status and become an actual respected rap artist is an amazing feat. What other women are on Nicki's level? Lil Kim? Sure, she's ridden the BOOTY<3 train a little bit, but she does have talent.

All that said, she's no role model for body image. She's the gold standard of the "IF SHE DON'T GOT BOOTY SHE'S NOT A WOMAN" bullshit.

Taylor is a devil in different clothing. She has literally turned the term "America's Sweetheart" into cash. As much as her music and persona portray her as a sweet little angel that's blossoming into an artist-loving picture of feminism, she's a businesswoman. She's not worried about the little artists or the girl who hates her body. She's worried about her payday. She's ridden the slim white girl with makeup train just as far as Nicki has ridden the BOOTY<3 train, and she's riding it for money.

All this to say that they're both talented, they're both powerful women, but neither of them can say shit about positive body image.

They are though. It's kinda ridiculous to say they're not. You realize how hard it is to write and perform songs that millions (tens of millions...? Hundreds of millions...?) of people get stuck in their head? They might not have the deepest songs, but as pop artists they're both pretty brilliant.

Two vapid talentless puppets throwing a hissyfit nuanced issued via Twitter just seems to create the perfect storm of "who gives a shit?" for me.

Neither of the two are evenly remotely qualified to carry on a conversation about the fucking weather, let alone on body image, sexism in media, or any of the other half dozen or so of issues that this brings up.

They are two string puppets having a slap fight on stage while a million idiots erupt into applause because their outfits are shiny and the stage has bright lights.
thats exactly how i feel but without doing the effort to type it out

I like nicki minaj so damn much Hahaha.

Anaconda is seriously one of the sexiest videos I've ever seen. Right up there with stupid hoe and benny benassi's satisfaction.

Got damn at that quote above me.

Is Taylor saying Nicki looks like a man or is she blaming sexism on her lack of nomination? Both videos and songs were atrocious regardless.

Also guys, stop playing into the mediaz hands and pitting these two poor women against each other!

You don't give a shit, yet you felt the need to - borrowing a word of yours - throw a hissy fit about it that's easily more vapid than either of the two people you're complaining about.

Like did anybody watch those five videos and then Nicki's last two, three videos?

It's obvious if you have eyes in your head tbh. Even the Beyoncé video with the trashtrap-song is a more interesting video than both Feeling Myself and Anaconda despite the home camcorder look.

Nicki is bitter.

Is it any surprise Taylor Swift is seen in a better light than Nicki?

Taylor's music is typically about love and light hearted fun meant for kids, teens, and adults.
She dresses relatively conservatively and doesn't use sex appeal like other artists. Her songs avoid profanity, too. She's easily likable and deliberately puts on a nice girl image.

Have you seen Bad Blood? ;)

Speaking of, wouldn't expect it to win simply because, while it wasn't a carbon copy, it does lift the aesthetic of a 2NE1 vid.

Neither videos are original. Pretty much very scene is copied from a film/video game.

Well Taylor can write a song about this "feud". Maybe it will be a hit and she can hire all her girlfriends to star in the music video.

Clearly some people don't understand why she's really pissed and is chopping it up to angry black women syndrome and tidal

Contrary to what everyone is assuming, Anaconda broke a Vevo record for fastest watched video under 24 hours It shattered Miley and One Direction who to a lot might not see that as no big deal, but One Direction has an incredible fanbase and Miley was coming off the heels of her super controversial video Wrecking Ball.

The reason why Nicki's tweet wasn't directed at Taylor Swift but Taylor Swift basically showed her ass, is because Beyonce is also nominated who is thin by black standards and since she's a big figure in white media, she gets to join. Nicki despite having the bigger video than all of them and argumentatively the best by number, to be snubbed again is all to real of a reality of women in hip pop.

For Taylor to take that as an attack on her winning record says a lot about the confidence she has going into that award which basically sounds like she was mad at Nicki for even making a big deal about her "winning" this award. She basically crowned herself because, well.... She's Taylor Swift. She doesn't have to worry about fighting competitors in any space because she can literally get away with her shade under a cute ruse that she's America's sweetheart and she can just do that.

Nicki being "upset" shouldn't come down to her title and welp, it must be due to some man taking her spot as well. Either way, Nicki has a point and some people really are dense to see that point.

The numbers don't make it the best video. It's basically softcore porn, of course it has big numbers.

Thin by black standards? Besides, she's criticizing MTV standards.

I'm assuming you're ignoring Nicki's retweeting of fans talking shit about Taylor.

Maybe Nicki Minaj's video just sucks? Is that a possibility?

This is all irrelevant anyways, because Kendrick is going to win.

(I can't believe I posted in/read this thread)

Well one, talent is subjective, are you the end all critic of who has "talent"? Two, you might not give a shit because it isn't particularly a topic that even concerns you socially, I mean after all why should you care if it doesn't affect you? Three, that's the point, it doesn't affect you, it's conversation about how women and then black women on top of that and how workmanship is perceived in the media when it comes to the work of black women. Four, who are you to judge on who is "qualified" on what to speak about? These women might have personas that come off as vapid but you don't even know what their experiences have amounted to.

I'm not a fan of either really but this comment is just completely uneducated and generalizing.

who is nicki kidding
shes got another nom for Best Collaboration too

Acting like shes not talking about Taylor when the only other girl on that list is Bey and she tweets good shit about her two minutes later
And I know there is an issue with the media as a whole, but 4/5 of the best vid nominations have black artists, not to mention Kendrick's video is about race relations and the violence of the police

Oh look, pop stars behaving like children on twitter!

Both these girls have artistically shit videos though so neither deserves anything, but pop is just a popularity contest so who knows.

.

But I can fap to Nicki's videos. Swift? lol

Nicki 1 - 0 Swift

I'm gonna go buy some old man pants.... sorry slacks... Old man slacks, that's what old men call pants. I'm gonna wear old man slacks because I can't make any sense of this thread. Probably because I'm too old for this shit.

Then I'll reminisce about the good ol' days when some people played geeetars and tambourines. Others were rappers like Buster Rhymes. Buster Rhymes was the bees knees back then too. That Buster was a hoot.

It's hilarious seeing Taylor Swift trying to engage with Nicki Minaj.

Taylor Swift is the worst.

Two publicists sat down, decided their contracted artists weren't getting enough exposure, so they constructed a Twitwar which escalated all over the internet and both artists were getting their attention-fix.
