NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

Just reached ending C,D and E.

What a game, amazing! But it will take some time to think about all the stuff that happened. I bought the game mainly, because of the great artdesign and gameplay. But what really blew me away were the story and music.

I am not going to try and convince you or anything because, to be honest, the story works either way and it doesn't really matter whether they love each other romantically or not. You can also check these reddit posts with people arguing:

https://www.reddit.com/r/nier/comments/63i20o/2b_x_9s_consensus/

But there is plenty of stuff in the game which can be used to justify 2Bx9S and corresponding arts/comics/fics/etc.

How the heck do people read stuff like this as non-romantic sibling love?

I wonder if it's the writing of A2's taunts or just the delivery that makes them come off as so lukewarm to me. "I'll shred you" is the only one that really works, and it's just as much of a stock line as the others.

Ah shit I just realize all the zombie machines have faces identical to Emil underneath their "skin". Yeah I'm a believer that the aliens defo based them on Emil after their war started

Did they explain the robot zombies and why they eat other robots somewhere?

I assume it was a process that forces machines to scrap one another into parts for the resource towers to process for the tower.

Although I can't explain the handful hiding under the theatre in route A

I followed this game pretty much all the way from announcement to release. Saw a lot of concept art as a result.

My avatar's from concept art of the machine's skin being peeled ALLL the way off! Pretty clear resemblance there.

I mean, the Drama CD from Nier already says that Emil loses one of his copies while fighting the Aliens, so it's pretty clear the Aliens got it.

EDIT: Here's a summary of Emil Chapter from the CD

Emil is moving around and he wonders why he can't encounter anyone. After being chased around by the wild boar, he decides to use "Emil Dash" to get away from the wild boar before it crushes Emil into fragments again. Then he encounters a UFO from the sky and when Emil wants to greet it, the UFO attacks Emil and the animals. Emil retaliates the UFO by using his magic, but the UFO can withstand his attacks. Eventually, Emil unleashes "Emil Beam" and "Emil Copy". Emil makes 430 copies of himself to fight against the UFO, and he wins the battle at the end. Just before he falls asleep (the drama makes it sounds like he's about to die lol), he realizes that he forgot to retrieve one of his copies, and Emil calls out to his copy, telling him that he's here.

Completed the game last night, with all five important endings. Holy shit guys. Not only is this going to be my personal GOTY, but it's a solid contender for game of the generation. Everything about this game is brilliant, and I feel crazy for hyping it up to everyone that I can. Very few games have evoked the emotions this game has for me. I really wish I could thank Yoko Taro and the team personally for such an amazing experience. And please don't even get me started on Pascal's arc. Few games have ever made me pause to bawl and reflect on what just happened lol!

If this is the explanation hey look another allusion to Xenogears

Didn't the zombies come out of the game developer quest?

The Stamp quest I think. Like a lot of quests I thought that was going to be a creepy one-off but it turned to be really damn important

I know they are part of the Stamp quest, but i thought the game developer in Route B is actually the one who created those while working on his game, seems awfully coincidenial that he's found in the same place as them and is also working on a zombie themed game.

Now go play Nier and be ready to pause the game even more lol

Finished the game and jeez it's freaking fantastic dat ending C/D and E and the end part where other players deleted save files help you go through that bullet hell part of the credits and the choir in the creditd OST man.... And the whole story of the game was fantastic imo.

Anyway i am plannig on buying the original Nier is it worth it?

Also why do the robots that the aliens created (were they even made by the aliens after the whole crazy network plan reveal:P?) look like Emil sort of? If you look at the infected machines even the mouth kinda lines up.

was on a complete media blackout for this game (just followed the basic gameplay in videos etc) and decided to pick it up mainly as a fan of platinum's work.

Man o man I did not expect such an overall masterpiece.

Just completed ending A and I'm now seeing there is still so much content still to play.

this may very well be my goty. (and yes Ive already beaten zelda)

If you just liked Automata for the basic combat mechanics and 2booty, then Nier isn't worth it. If you liked Automata for the writing, creativity, and music, then it is absolutely worth it.

The machines probably look like Emil because he was the dominant lifeform defending the planet for thousands of years, so the aliens copied his design after capturing one of his clones.

Get the heck out of here!

Nier 1 is so worth it. I actually liked the story and characters on 1 better, although you'll come with some spoilers known, but I think theres still a lot to enjoy.

About your question, I posted it earlier today. The aliens arrived to Earth and Emil created an army of clones to fight them. Then the aliens kidnapped one of his clones... and there you have, a swarm of lil Emil machines!

This is briefly talked in the last chapter of Nier 1's Drama CD.

Yes, I liked this more than Zelda too. Now leave before you spoil yourself lol

Ah that makes sense thanks, i will get Nier 1 then. I did love the combat and 2B, 9S 2A, story etc:p but i do enjoy story/characters also high on my preference ladder so i will be fine probably. So i will get a copy soon and check it out. Really interested in the Gestalt project now that's why i want to try the game and see what exactly happened.

And about Emil ah ofcourse that makes sense sounds pretty cool, i knew about him fighting the aliens and that he cloned himself but not the rest. I did found it odd why the machines resembled him so much, that was pretty much the biggest question i wanted awnsered so thanks.

Really love btw how all those machines try to act as humans in different ways and aspects made the game so fantastic. The forest kingdom colony is the most saddest one tbh followed by the we shall become gods one (seeing them all doing suicide together and killing each other in the factory to try and reach a higher existence) and ofcourse pascals colony and the amusement park robots.

Don't feel crazy, spread the word lol

Yeah i feel like a promoter of some kind of religious cult.
DO YOU HAVE A MOMENT TO TALK ABOUT OUR LORD AND SAVIOR YOKO TARO?

Nier is pretty similar to Automata, in the sense that is a story more focused on it's characters more than the brackground story, so a lot of the questions about what happened in the world are left unexplained or just talked quickly.

I think it's still worth just for Nier (the character) story alone.

I would wait on buying a copy of the first Nier, if only for the fact that one of the Square Enix people said they would consider releasing a remaster if Automata sells well. I doubt it would get a full remake done by Platinum, but even having minor tweaks and on a modern console might be worth waiting for.

I have no idea how long you should wait though. I doubt SE would make a big deal about a Nier remaster at E3.

I literally just wrote a midterm essay on Nier: Automata and how it tackles philosophy through its video game.

Admittedly, that might not have been the best route because trying to describe that game below 3,000 words plus writing about your framework plus your analysis plus your conclusion is pretty hard. I think me trying to describe Nier: Automata was just half of the paper. It's just that hard to describe for non-video gamers.

DAT CREDITS SEQUENCE

Man shit got too real when "Square Enix" appeared, never would've beaten it on my own. What an amazing experience.

And this asshole Yoko Taro tried to delete my saved game again. What's the point of that these days anyway, I backed up the save on my PC the moment I noticed something iffy was going on. :P

Finished it with ABCDEIW, I'm not sure if I have another one there or not. :P I have 95% of sidequests done. I guess I'm pretty much done with it.

So who made these androids and project YorHA? The machines? I can't say I'm sure what was happening there. Who's left to control the androids after the bunker gets blowed up? For a while there I thought the pods were the real masterminds behind everything. :P

If you're a horrible person, you should hit up Emil's home, then collect/upgrade all the weapons.

Androids have been self-sustaining for thousands of years, they also masterminded YoRHa themselves (AFAIK)

There is a pipe that is spilling out water in the main area nier where the tower is. Go in that pipe.

Oh yeah found that place a short while ago, it ended with a locked door. Read somewhere that I have to go back to talk to Emil but he says nothing about the door.

It unlocks after Emil talks about visiting his home.

I see what my issue was. I was doing this late-game with 9S.

So I went back to Route A with 2B, and I triggered the door being open, me stealing the mask, Emil going on about thieves, me going back to the cave to see the locked chest. So I load up a later chapter with 9S.

The door is locked again.

Goddamn it this fucking game, first time it has annoyed me.
