NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

I left Pascal and I think that's the best option. Killing him is a no-go, especially since the children killing themselves is what set off this tragedy, so I wasn't about to assist in any more suicides. Wiping his memory is also off the table. There are enough side quests in this game where androids who had their memories erased start to remember bits and pieces of their old life, seek to remember the past and end up reliving the trauma to assume that the same would happen to Pascal. Which makes Pascal selling the children's cores extra rough since one day he'll realize what he's done.

Leaving Pascal to deal with the trauma is the only option that has even a glimmer of hope that he might one day recover. Maybe he doesn't and it's all for naught, but its worth trying, which is very much in keeping with the themes of the game.

If you leave him there, the ending even cuts to where he would stand if you just deleted his memories too which I found to be a nice big kick to the balls for good measure

The ending scene is the same as if you killed him. The only time he shows up there is if you delete his memories.

Which is why a lot of people just think he commits suicide if you leave him.

If there's a yoko taro game that has any hope at all though, it's this game.

And if you want to see parallels of pascal's story to what happened to our trio, leaving him with his memories was the most hopeful path.

I needed that extra gut punch after wiping his memories and going to the village as 9S.

Plus I'm a monster and needed those weapons for my 100% run

I'm a bigger monster, I ended up selling the cores so that I could just barely afford buying the last trophy before I deleted my save file.

So, did I miss something about what was pulling the strings on the android/human side? Who/what the hell was "Command"? Was it just the automated server on the moon literally calling all the shots and spitting out when to initiate the backdoor/chop down Yorrha?

In project gestalt report 11 it mentions a Next Generation Preservation Preparation Committee, these are the ones that made Yorha and got rid of the twins and pretty much trying to sell the lie to other androids.

You can assume that the android resistance on earth has some kind of command with the carrier being sent and rocket launches, not everything is dead and lost. It is said there is not much on the moon at all (other than some human junk) and that's why machines never bothered to attack moon.

The current command and leaders behind project yorha is an unknown group of android higher ups, but the concert stage play does reveal the who created the Yorha androids and the Project Yorha.

Also I don't think it's ever implied that the androids are actual replicants? I think they're separate, like how devola and popola are different from the replicants.

yeah, they're probably not the same thing. These androids don't have gestalts. Replicants from Nier 1 should be all dead right.

I saw that report in the machine tower, but I didn't know if it was intended to imply that there's still an overseeing body around in Nier Automata since it takes place so long after Nier 1. Especially since the report is apparently dated right around Nier 1's time.

But I also had no idea there was supposed to be a group paying attention to Project Gestalt outside of OG Devola/Popola during Nier 1 either, so I guess any sort of governing bodies/committees/whatever that are overseeing things don't really get much spotlight in these games unless it's talking about organizations from years in the past.

It feels weirder in this game though because there's apparently some nebulous shadow group that basically wiped out your entire unit in this game and it barely ever gets acknowledged outside of just a couple references to "Command".

In the machine research report jackass swore vengeance upon them so there's that. :P

I was kinda disappointed with the endings, especially A2's . I think it could of had more impact. I was kinda like that's it? When I finished all the endings. But in retrospect I did like the game and story a lot and got over that disappointment lol. A2 in general was pretty under developed.

I would love if they made a sequel, I find the robots leaving the planet pretty interesting. Also Pascal is my fav character lol.

Fairly good analysis of the costume design of 2B, though some stuff are pretty common knowledge.

AAlso regarding the new costumes while people think giving 2B kaine's costume is another form of sex appeal fanservice, i find 2b's default a way more effective piece of sex appeal design? Then again i never really found kaine's costume all that sexy.

nier spoilercast was pretty fun. not 100% accurate but pretty decent.

i am looking forward to alex skyping in austin and patrick as summons in this year's GOTY discussion

Never though I'd say this but damn... ending C--->D--->E

0.5) Unexpectedly shed a tear after A2 managed to get into the system and 'save' the world (ending D); combo of music and everything that happened leading up to it
0.666) I loved how dramatic and bloody all of it was. Like a Greek Tragedy. This is my first Y.T. game and I've heard A LOT about Nier but Platinum + Y.T. seems to be the best case scenario
0.8) Ending E is a bit weird since I'd much rather prefer if A2 survived by herself AND 9S/2B got new bodies, but never the less, getting into ending E...
*end of edit*
1) ...credits almost kicked my ass (???)
2) ...but then all those messages from other players came...
3) ...and some good souls offered me help...
4) ...so we managed to fight the credits together (???)
5) ...and then I decided, without thinking for a second, to do the same... so the game deleted all of my progress and I actually feel good about it (??!)

THIS. GAME. IS. EVERYTHING. It hacked into my system and I shall cherish it as one of my favorite gaming experiences ever.

Why isn't this a 10/10 from most publications again?! Oh, I get it, Yoko Taro is pedaling faster than most of the gaming industry, makes sense.

*Chances we get a sequel? :wink-wink:

Rather than a sequel i'd rather taro make another new franchise that somehow ties into the drakenier universe through inexplicable means.

Hearing the folks on the waypoint podcast trying to remember what happened in nier months after finishing automata and with no previous experience with nier is kinda hilarious. Was a good effort too!

So there is a post ending e novella out? Is it translated anywhere?

I just finished ending E and I'm actually incredibly happy it wiped my save data. Now I won't suffer from any completionist guilt.

What a brilliant way to end the game.

Now to find somewhere online to read the weapon stories.

yea, I find 2B to be good sexy design, where as kaine is just purposefully blatant in a way thats not attractive.

Granted what do I know, I like Velvet Crowe's design a whole lot.

I enjoyed the Waypoing spoilercast for what it was, but was left a little disappointed that they just barely scratched the surface. Austin said it himself, he could talk about it for 4 hours and that's what I was hoping for. Nier: Automata has become the classic literature of video games to me and I'm still hungry to consume discussions and essays about it. I know there will be really good analysis of this in future.

LOL that lore is still coming out in ways like the concert and strategy guide. I expect at this point for new content to be written on the back those napkin packages that are given out on the streets as marketing in Japan...each one with a different sentence of the story!

Will there be canon story elements in the Sin o Alice mobile game? They already announced the Nier:A collaboration, it's a slam dunk right?

2B - good design, but not a hill to like die on
Kaine - a mess, but great character
Velvet - I dunno what she's like, but her outfit is a mess

2B's outfit is a more attractive design, imo, but it's obvious they gave her Kaine's outfit because of how much skin it shows. Which is disappointing because Kaine's outfit was meant to deconstruct fanservice outfits, and it was important to her identity.

I killed Pascal because i had no idea you could just leave, erasing his memories was not an option because he said himself changing core parts (in this case his memories) would mean losing your own self.
For a person like Pascal, for what i've felt with him and for how much i've cared about him as awful as it sounds killing him seemed the most human thing i could do (leaving him with his memories non withstanding).

As i said before what happened to Pascal and the village was the closest thing that made me cry in a videogame, i will always remember him and every single villager.

Considering some of the other games they gave 10s to, I have no idea.

If you say "No" to "is there anything you'd like to say to players struggling with the end of Nier Automata?" twice, it just bypasses the deletion prompt altogether.

The prompt to delete it comes after that, unless you weren't paying attention and ignored it or something lol

Which you should say yes to just to leave a message about how [I like Emil] [if so] [get wild like 2B]

I've put in the message for other players, and then the game brought me back to the title screen.

They're really going all in with the fact that the desert is where Facade used to be with the DLC from the few moments I've touched upon. Rules, rules everywhere.
