NieR: Automata Spoiler Thread

maybe im in the minority, but the whole story of the forest king hit me the hardest.

the whole 'the king won't grow bigger. We are too stupid to figure out how to solve this problem' hit me soo hard.

Sure is a cutie, though!
:{

As cute as baby Immanuel was and the snippets of backstory with the original king were, the Forest Kingdom lost most of my sympathy when I crashed their hidden meeting in the center of the castle and they were planning to pre-emptively attack Pascal's village.

Oh wait really? I totally missed that. Fuck those creepazoids then

To be fair, not only was Pascal consorting with the genocidal androids who were indiscriminately slaughtering even peaceful machines and would go on to wipe out the entire kingdom to the last man, but he was actually the one who told them about the kingdom and gives them a shove in its direction.

edited to account for the broader scope of it

Haha, I suppose that's a fair point. Hate begets hate and all that ;p The meeting was held during the first genocidal warpath though so I'm not sure they knew it was going on around them when they planned to attack. I'm gonna give this one to Pascal still, myself, as a stroke of dumb luck.

EDIT: Ok, nevermind, LotusHD's theory wins

So is it normal to start crying as Emil laments his fate during the superboss encounter?

Goddamn, this game. Platinum trophy get, then promptly back to Ending E to sacrifice the data. No regrets.

Look, just because you're a pacifist doesn't mean that you can't point non-pacifists to the non-pacifists that are giving you trouble.

But sometimes you need a more forceful argument

Like punching a giant robot in the face as another giant robot

Damn that Pascal vs Engels fight was hype

They had it comin'

But you're right, Pascal never once shied away from using the YoRHa androids from doing his dirty work. Probably for the best. The one time he decides to take matters into his own hands, well. :(

Haw Haw Haw is one of my favorite lines in the game. Evil little fuck.

Who told you I was crying? I just had something in my eye.

I do think 9S's inability to control an Engels and how easily Pascal is able to do it is something Taro wanted us to notice.

Also, Pascal speaks of Grun as a monster that had to be marooned at sea, but the storytelling shows it as a young child that didn't know how to keep people safe around it.

I think Pascal was a far more capable machine than people think.

if taro ever does a game about the end of humanity... how would it end for the last folks?

suicide?

nier automata style 'duel of the fates'?

will have sad vocals in the song regardless.

You really could tell a nice story about the last of humanity knowing you can't reproduce and its over.

not sure how that would translate to a open world action rpg though lol.

its the end of humanity, might as well drift boars.

or what the resistance is gonna do from now on?

What happens to the androids when their morale was low?

do they go all pascal's kids?

Guess they could go watch plays at the amusement park.

At this point the androids no longer need us. The cycle is broken. Probably. They inherit the earth. Mankind's legacy. What they do with it is up to them. I would like to think they have a happy ending.

Human beings can't even get a happy ending in real life, I dunno how androids that are programmed to essentially idolize us are going to fare much better, but here's to hoping...

Wouldn't it make more sense if she was there from the start of YoRHa rather than got a promotion since she was already the commander during the deployment of the first YoRHa models(A2's gen)!

But according to this (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=232020867&postcount=657), she already knows Jackass and even says "Just because I'm not there anymore", so I just assumed as much. But yea, that's a possibility.

There are pathways to revive humanity, theoretically. They could Jurassic Park humans with the data on the moon (though how they get there now is another question). They could advance android technology so significantly that, eventually, the distinction from humanity is not noticeable.

They could do nothing and live lives of quiet desperation for Gods that no longer exist.

At some point the Watchers could just come and fuck them up for being too close to humanity.

They're going to just deteriorate forever while they salvage parts of their fallen comrades and every Devola/Popola unit does sure seem gone now, so there's no one left to make significant repairs.

Even if we discount the artbook, Jackass does know White and calls her a friend in-game (when you talk to her as 9S during Route C). The artbook just lets us see a bit more behind the curtain into that. So I'd say she was 'promoted' in the sense she was asked to take command of YoRHa on its founding.

Thinking about it, if Project YoRHa really was started by high-ranking Resistance androids they might have had something against Commander/White since they basically conscripted her to die without telling her the whole plan. There's no point keeping the Top Secret SS files from her if she knew about the backdoor already.

Some other cycle will start up. Android vs android. Machine vs machine. Machines vs androids again. Humans come back and just fuck things up like we always do. What's more human than hating and destroying each other in endless conflict?
