NieR Automata Xbox One UPDATE: Why NieR sequel won't be coming to Microsoft's console

Doesn't the US and Europe routinely buy way more games, even the Japanese ones than Japan does? Yeah, stop with the bullshit.
Pretty much, it's not like we're talking about waifu groping garbage he- oh wait even those games get ported nowadays and have no trouble finding their audience

The problem is that SE has a history of being fucking incompetent when it comes to PC versions.

It's developped by PG. Even then, it's an unwarranted claim.

So they feel their games are more popular outside of Japan.

And, they already developed the game on Pc, so porting to any other platform is easy.

Yeah, this will total come to xbone eventually.

It may not come to XB1 though for various reasons:
1) Steam release doesn't mean XB1 release, as the Steam audience is more receptive to that kind of game than the XB1 audience.
2) Steam release is happening for many reasons, the first one being the audience is indeed receptive to these games, not as much as the PlayStation audience but really close, and closer with the years. But even if some of these games may not sell well, the entry cost is ridiculously small on Steam/PC. Especially for games developped the way PG does, which means first developped on high end DX environnement then downported to console.
3) Entry cost on XB1 is somewhat high: Minimum print of 50k copies if you want a physical version. And if you don't, well, you're being digital download only, on platforms which are less likely to accept that.

I feel like the game could easily sell enough on Xbox to warrant a port, especially if they release the awesome demo available on PS4 and possibly make the original free with gold through BC. I guess that's SE's decision though.

The game likely isn't going to tear up the charts, so putting it on another console that a much lower number of units in homes is basically a business decision. The safe bet is to put the focus on PC where the majority of worldwide users are, and then release on PC where it'll be totally digital, and already basically developed on. Cutting down the costs as a result.

When I do eventually pick this up I'm hoping it'll be on PC.

Not that I have a hard time believing this given the Scalebound and Xbox in Japan situation but where is Sunday Express's source?

I don't see any new interviews with Yosuke Saito mentioning this at all after the GameRant one. Did they just call up Platinum and be like "Hey man what's the word on XBO version now?", just seems randomly updated.

I would even go a step further - after Scorpio (and only because it's an Xbox One mid-gen console), I wouldn't release any future consoles in any region outside of North America and Europe as there's simply no point in doing so as again, they don't sell. And since you can have consoles be region free, this negative doesn't even matter.

That's really great long term strategy - concentrate on stagnant markets while completely surrender every area where actual growth happens.

Yeah, I'm going to go with something was lost in translation.

I don't think he was definitively saying it wont come. Just that they have very little faith in the initial sales potential.

It would be a very, very strange business decision IMO to definitively cut off a potential revenue stream as well as helping open up a whole other market in the west.

People are definitely starting to open up to anime here. Heck every kid I know is involved in one anime or another.

I would guess that he is just saying where they plan on focusing in the beginning and if sales are good enough to cover the ports they might focus on other platforms in the future.

Unless a money hat really is involved. Like I've said before, niche games seem to be Sony's "thing" right now so it's believable to me. Their fans keep touting that over the competition anyway. The recent silence about the PC version is what is so suspicious after being so blatant about it.

Who cares? Xbox owners didn't even know what this weird ass titled game was.

Must be a slow news day, thats like saying coffee is black or sky is blue. Chances of coming to Xbox were always minute due to the marketshare in Japan. The question should be, how much money will it take to moneyhat this for an Xbox One, so Phil can at least have another JRPG on the system that isn't FF

Ports cost money. And why would they port a game that is already going to tank to a platform where it will tank even more.
why don't you ask sega since they ported yakuza 1&2 to wii u and are bringing valkyria revolution to xbone
which is apparently also doomed to fail
Because that costs basically the same amount of money as releasing it in Japan? They save money by not doing the port that won't sell, if they went ahead and made an Xbox one version they might as well put it out everywhere.
why did ffs13 release on 360 here and remain exclusive to Ps3 in japan then?

no lies detected

PC is also not the strongest in JP, so i'm not sure if Xbox / Windows 10 Ecosystem would make any real difference in potential sales and reach.
If you want to play those type of games, you have to get a Ps4 nothing wrong with that.

Typical Henn/Egg problem.
No customer support and no developer support. and you can't blame either side to acknowledge that

Huh? No I don't . Game is coming to pc and regardless there's way more of these types of games on pc . Xbox is a whole different thing .

Holy shit at the snarky responses. I just want the game to succeed, as the first remains one of the most memorable games I played last gen. Can't wait for my copy to come in the mail.

Carry on with whatever the fuck that was though.

I was kind of side eyeing the original assertion that they were thinking about a XBox One port. now i see that's definitely something i was right to be skeptical about, especially after Scalebound.

It would be up to SE to fund an Xbox port to begin with, not the dev staff. And SE don't care

Here comes the usual...

"Switch"

"When's Switch?"

"Switch version confirmed?"

"This means it's coming to Switch"

Lol

It would be great to have in it on the switch, in case you don't have the other platform. Plus, Nintendo has a great relationship with both PlatinumGames and Squenix, I can see it happen.

Makes total sense but also a bit worrying that Japanese developers dont think they can make an impact in the western market via the xbox brand. I understand PS4 is the market leader and are also ahead in western markets, but still there are around 30 million xb1 in the western market. Phil needs to have some really good strategy going to Japan.

The PS360 era gave us an entire generation's worth of precedent. Even when the Xbox was in a dominant position, Japanese games generally had better attach rates on the PS3.

There are material differences between the demographics that buy PlayStation and Xbox, and ts reflected in what genres sell well on those platforms

Yeah, this will total come to xbone eventually.

The detail is if they feel there are enough people on Xbox to bother porting it there. And almost everyone in Japan has made their choice.

Pretty much, it's not like we're talking about waifu groping garbage he- oh wait even those games get ported nowadays and have no trouble finding their audience

Which ones in Xbox are those?

Fair enough, focus your efforts in the PC/PS4 version. If the game is a success in the west, I'll be waiting for the Xbox version. If not, I'll get it later on PS4.

All you need is enough folks to buy it to make a profit on porting it. They don't have to sell a crazy amount for that.

If Final Fantasy struggled to sell on Xbox One (Type-0 and XV had big ratios between PS4 and XB1 sales) then what hope does Nier have?

SE just don't see the XB1 as too profitable for their Japanese games (KH3 is the only one yet to be released and it's only on XB1 because it was announced before PS4 and XB1 released so they wanted to cover both bases in case one flopped and the other flourished).

Is Japan even doing any heavy lifting for console RPGs at this point?

I would think that if you're a Japanese studio and you're making a moderately budgeted console game, you're doing it with an eye towards the West.

Really disappointed this game isn't coming out on the One, as that is where I buy most games. Prefer the controller and that is where most of my friends play. Will buy on Ps4 though. Really REALLY enjoyed the demo. After Vanquish and Revengeance I've been sold on Platinum combat.

FF15 sold about a million there on PS4 alone. That's more than XB1 globally most likely.

Persona 5 also sold very very well.

I think depending on the product, the mind share and marketing, japan can do pretty well for games. But for Japan, i don't think what's happened in many cases so far is enough
