Nights into Dreams released 29 years ago today in Japan on the Sega Saturn. Gotta' drop some respect on it.

Why can't we get simple, uniquely magical games like this now?

Fun fact from the wiki page: "During development, the director Steven Spielberg visited the Sonic Team studio and became the first person outside the team to play the game"

Many many hours back in the day with this, and Christmas Nights too. The OST is permanently burned into my brain.

The re-release is very good too, however its unfortunately been de-listed from Steam now. Shame.

Crazy, I just pulled out my Saturn yesterday and played through a few games including Nights. Such a great game. Bought the analogue controller on ebay years ago when these things still went cheap, shame game collecting is so expensive now.

I suck at it as a score attack arcadey game but still enjoyed its atmosphere immensely back in the day when I first got it. Dreamy and unlike pretty much anything else out there.

Maybe not as instantly wondrous nowadays for seasoned gamers who know what games tech can be capable of rather than seeing things in 3D for the first time and what not.

I have not played anything that gave similar vibes, not even its actual sequel hit the mark. A random UT2004 mod called Metaball could have, but lacked the production values.

It's an alright game.
But Sonic Team fucked up by making a niche little flying-in-rings game instead of a 3D Sonic for the Saturn ASAP.

Thankfully they got their act together in time for the Dreamcast.

I've only tried the game twice. The first was at a toy r us saturn demo kiosk where the controller was broken and a demo on the Xbox 360. I found the game to be kind of confusing so I never bothered to buy it. It does have a cool artstyle though.

I beat Nights numerous times. Pretty much all you did was fly around, creating loopings and doing stunts for the highest scores. You'd beat it within the hour. I too think it was kind of overrated though, there wasn't that much to it really. I guess I wanted a full blown new Sonic game.

For some reason I liked the Xmas nights freebie more.

I still have the 3D pad and game fully boxed in pretty much pristine condition from as I got it for xmas the year it came out

Also managed to get 2 copies of xmas nights in the sleeves

A couple of years back I imported the game and 2d pad from Japan so I could have that version aswel

As you can probably tell I love this game

One of the best Sonic Team games ever. Simply a magical game, through and through. Not perfect, but once you learn how it works, the gameplay flow is immaculate.
