(if this is innapropriate, please delete)

The new NIN album has leaked and is at the usual places (torrent sites mainly, I think).
My inbox was flooded with requests the last time a NIN song leaked, so please try your brady best to get it yourself before asking me. :)

I feel guilty listening to it but I can't help it. It's fucking great..

After 2 listens I would say my Fav's so far are "The Hand That Feeds", "Love is not Enough", Right Where it Belongs" and "Everyday is exactly the same"

This album officially kicks ass.

The Hand That Feeds is my personal least favorite. If you didn't like that song definitley give the rest a chance. Very diverse album

The album is so good. I've listened to it 3 times today. Once while working out, once on my way to work, and once in the privacy of my house.

This album is like nothing Trent has put out before. The approach is totally different, you can even tell in Trent's voice that things have changed, for the better. The lyrics, while maybe not poetry, are so personal that it brings NIN to a new level.

Favorites right now are All The Love In The World, Everyday Is Exactly The Same, Only and Beside You In Time.

5.1 release will fucking own

I wouldn't call that a spoiler so much as the God's Honest Truth.

Has any pictures of the cd art or the dualdisc art been released yet? Trent's last posting mentioned something about a neato-keen CD case.

I'm liking it so far (I'm just on the second song). The dual disc version of the album is a remarkable value. Can't wait to buy it.

I haven't listened to it much yet, however from what I've heard it's very different and very unexpected.

I wasn't sure what I was looking forward to hearing when news of the record started getting more prominent.

I'm going to have to listen a little more closely when I get home later.

That crazy Japanese Moon Language
I like how the new percussion driven sound is extremely raw and imperfect with no distortion, not like the sterile perfect sound scapes on downward spiral (even though the heavy distortion aimed to achieve a similar effect) and the fragile.

The Fragile is still the masterpiece but With Teeth comes mighty close. It's just so eclectic.

the good = "you know who you are"
the bad = "getting smaller"
the groovy = "sun spots"
the mind blowing = "only"

Downloading. Don't feel guilty at all cause I'm buying the dualdisc the day it comes out.

I have a question though, what is required to fully take advantage of the 5.1 mixes? Can I use my xbox as the dvd player sending to my reciever? Can I use a dvd rom in my computer? Or is this a very limited thing only in certain recievers set top cd/dvd units?

as long as it's going over a digital connection you should be fine - i listen to spiral 5.1 on my machine at home using powerDVD, with a line going from the dvd-rom drive to the sound card, then a 3.5mm jack in the sound cards digital port --> rca connector into my 5.1 desktop speakers and it works fine in surround, (didnt even know my sound card would have a digital pass through to be honest :p )

or you can listen on dvd player hooked up to a receiver via coax/optical, i assume the xbox optical cord does this. id just like to add, 'beside you in time' in 5.1 will make me cry :p

I'm really liking the last two tracks and a couple of the other more glitchy, slower songs. Those tracks are when Trent is at his best. The rest of the Nickelback-like generic rock trash on this album just went into the Recycle Bin. God, fuck that shit.

I also like the synth-pop 80s vibe, even if some of it sounds sorta amateurish and not at all what you'd expect from Trent's usual high-quality, anal-retentive production.

Much better than the leaks would make you think though. Those tracks are the low points. Most everything else is good shit.

well not really...yet
What a fucking dissapointment ;_; Just woefully unremarkable.....

Beside you in time, is pretty much the best track among the lot.

that depends. There are (or at least should be, if the TDS DD was any indication) two 5.1 mixes on the album. The first is a DVD-A version of the album (playable only on DVD-A machines) and the second is a regular Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, playable on any DVD player. It doesn't matter if you don't know what you have, the machine will figure it out for you.

So yeah, as long as you have a DVD player hooked up to a surround-sound system, you'll be able to hear a 5.1 mix.

My only gripe is that it isn't being released as a SACD as well. (TDS was! what the heck Reznor.) My player does both, I just prefer the SACD format because I don't have to have the television on when I want to listen to those discs (don't have to choose an audio option as it defaults to what I tell the player).

EDIT: oh yeah, regarding DVD-A/SACD - to listen to either of these formats, you have to have your player hooked up via the 6-channel analog outputs on your DVD player. This is a security thing, and if you don't have a player capable you don't have to worry about it - it'll play fine over the digital connection via the Dolby mix.

i leave my tv off and press enter twice and it plays the surround mix of TDS - probably the same with this one :)

Any real advantage of either mix? I would assume DVD-A would sound better because its more exclusive and requires distinct hardware, but what do I know.

Listened to the whole thing... Right Where it Belongs is probably my fav. Beside You in Time is just... a bit overkill on the resonation effect. Feels like my head is going to explode. I'm digging "All the Love in the World", it's just so unexpected and it works, wonderfully. Same with Only. It's like Trent got stuck in the early 80s for a little bit.

Right Where it Belongs, All the Love..., Every Day... are the best IMO on the first listen.

I got so hyped when NIN.com had that teaser a while back which was Beside You in Time from 3:45 to 4:00. Too bad the first 3:30 of the song is just... white noise for the most part.

That's subjective. I'd say Beside You In Time is a tiny glimpse of what a Still-like album would have been. But that's not what With Teeth is, nor is it what I would want to hear for 13 songs. With Teeth is good the way it is, it's pretty diverse yet still remains very personal.

Right Where It Belongs blows everything out of the water right off the bat. Most beautiful and powerful song on the album.

I'd actually say Right Where it Belongs expanded to 12 songs would be moreso of a "Still album with lyrics" than Beside You... expanded the same way. Probably why I like it so much.

that's the best part! it's so tense for that first few minutes, building up then pulling back, i kept expecting it to burst out into that teaser bit any second, but then it draws back again.. then BANG! the song opens up...

i can't stop listening to this track, it's fucking awesome :D

Oh man, stop falling for all of Trent's promotional bullshit. You're pretty much directly quoting him there.

I can agree with this, though. It's definitely my favorite after a few listens to this album. The last two tracks are just phenomenal. "Home," which isn't on the album but on the Hand That Feeds single, is also just amazing.

Promotional bullshit? I'd say that when The Fragile came out Trent was spewing bullshit, he seemed to speak of TF as taking control and moving forward. Now we know TF wasn't really about that, and perhaps Trent didn't really know either, it does make me view TF differently. The past week I've seen him become more open in interviews than in any interview in his entire career. But eh, everyone will view the album differently.

I do wish Home was on the domestic album, but I buy most of my stuff at Mitsuwa, so I'll be getting the Japanese import with Home included. :p

beside you in time sounds nothing like the stuff on 'still' to me :p

13 tracks on the retail dskillzhtown, 15 on the japanese import (home / right where it belongs pt 2) or is that beside you in time pt 2? can't remember, but it's 15 as far as i know

Eh, I feel Beside You In Time is sort of a natural step from Still, it's the most expected song on the album. Production style is along the lines of the Still Instrumentals and And All That Could Have Been.

actually, i'll agree with you here - the sort of 'spacey' production is similar between them.

i'm still sitting here debating whether to just go all the way and listen to the whole album.. i wanted to wait and look forward to buyin it etc etc.. but.. its very hard to not listen to it all :p

friends, if any of you can help me out i would appreciate it! i can't find it online. i have AIM or if you can pm me i would appreciate it
