This album is fucking terrible. Most of you must be in denial. I will stick with the old material until he snaps out of it and starts shooting up again.

It's a solid album. It's certainly different from Reznors previous works. I guess I've had a preconception of what Nine Inch Nails really is musically. This record completely irradicated that preconception.

I'm definately not saying it's a bad album, because it's not. I think it'll sneak into my regular rotation of records over the next little while, but I can't say it's what I was expecting after The Fragile.

I love how it sounds a little more raw that the super production of The Fragile, it's a great step up, but old school Nine Inch Nails fans might be a little disappointed.

"only" is un-fucking-believable

wow! i love :p

edit - just noticed the 'down in it' reference in 'only'.. and the 'pretty on the inside ' line - is that a reference to courtney love? ;P hmm

Yea this is pretty much how I feel. I'm not sure whether it's good yet but it's very solid and very surprising in that it's quite different from Reznor's past works. I guess I'm happy because it's cool hearing something different than I expected, but at the same time it's gonna take a bit to fully take in. Definitely an interesting work, and shows that Reznor hasn't lost anything during the silence of the last few years.

Only Tool will be able to top this as album of the year for me...

That won't be too hard unless Maynard pulls another Emotive album :lol Which I doubt TOOL would do. Just face Trent has jumped the shark.

I thought it was complete shit during my first listen... but it is warming up to me.

My problem is primarily with some of the lyrical stylings. For instance, the southern baptist convention in With Teeth-tha. Or the constant need for nasal spoken word sections.

The production is pretty awesome thought.

My favorite track is Every Day is Exactly the Same.

Usually it takes me a few listens to get into some new material, but I liked With Teeth right away on first listen. I agree with most of the comments on here, alot of the stuff is different from his earlier material, but that's good -- you can't keep putting out the same stuff over and over.

I feel like "The Line Begins to Blur" is the closest song to his older music and could have easily appeared on either of The Fragile or Downard Spiral. Song doesn't do much for me, it's like Trent phoned it in for that one.

The opening drum beat on The Only made me feel like I was about to listen to a Michael Jackson track. After that the song kicks ass.

I love that sing-a-long part at the end of "All the Love in the World"

All in a all a great cd. 8/10

I immediately liked most of the album which is kind of strange since it's always taken a few listens to like previous NIN albums. I'm guessing in the end I'm going to like this more than Pretty Hate Machine (some great songs, cheesy production at times) and Broken (hard, but often annoying) but not as much as The Downward Spiral, The Fragile (very close to perfect IMO), and Still.

I still can't believe how awesome "Only" is.

edit: Yeah, I like the references. I actually really like a lot of the lyrics which I was afraid I was going to hate. Written out they're probably bad but in the music...

I need to actually read them (since I can't pick up a lot of the words and I concentrate on the music instead of pulling together a songs message) but they come across as a lot more honest. In some songs it sounds like he's cutting down his old lyrical style. Well, it's more than that, he's coming down on himself for the way he felt and the way he'd focus on pain because it was artificial. He did that a little on the Fragile but it seems like it's the focus of this album.

how about you face the fact that other people can like it, even if you don't. :lol

edit : after a few (about 10) listens of the album in full, i'm stoked. the end of 'you know what you are?' (as well as the big comedown-ish vocals in it); the title track; ONLY (my favourite so far i think) with that awesome squiggly synthy thing at 1.24, and the fuzzy quake-ish sounding whatever-it-is just after ; and the coda of 'beside you in time' which is fucking beautiful and just.. wow. rambling on, but i'm pretty fucking impressed. i feel dirty for downloading it, but.. i couldnt control myself :p i don't understand how anyone could call this 'garbage'.

i can't imagine what the 5.1 mix is gonna sound like... got it on super express post from amazon come release day :D

First off thank to Sullichin for the heads up!

The new album is awesome. On my 3rd play through now.

I like the organic sound of the drums, very nice.

My favorite track is Every Day Stays Exactly the Same.

I can't wait to get the Dual disc in May!

I dig it so far..... not as much as the fragile but I'd say it's a solid album.

Only and Everyday is Exactly the Same fucking rock.

i listened to it again and the album is very good. i still think the fragile is my favorite nin album, but with teeth is the real deal no doubt.

with that said queens of the stone age still owns record of the year so far, with nin and garbage following right behind :D

I like it.

It's a pretty good album. Only problem is that it's not what one expects from NIN.

Fave tracks so far: The Hand that Feeds, Everyday is Exactly the Same, Only, and Right Where It Belongs

Any real advantage of either mix? I would assume DVD-A would sound better because its more exclusive and requires distinct hardware, but what do I know.
Here's a page that actually shows all of the different formats (DVD-A/SACD/DualDisc) and their respective specifications.

Specifically:
# DVD-Audio uses PCM at up to 96 kHz (192kHz for stereo) sample rate and up to 24 bits per sample.
(A CD is 16 bit). the Dolby Digital mix is limited to 48KHz sampling, so it has about half (depending on what sampling rate was used to encode the DVD-A) of the information present in the DVD-A mix.

I think it's a safe bet that The Fragile is ultimatley a better album, but I don't think the compairson is fair. The Fragile took 2 years to record. With Teeth was made in less than a year, if you go by some of the recent interviews. With Teeth is clearly not as over produced as The Fragile. Trent commented recently that he was going to do the typical NIN sound treatment and layer it up, but he felt in the end the songs stood on their own in the current form. In any case, after Still he did say he wanted to create a stripped down album.

Well I can honestly say this is the best record since I've heard The Fragile. Trent has done it again. This is another fucking legendary god damned NIN album and my excitement for both Atlanta Tabernacle shows which I'll be in attendance has shot up 10 times.

There is not one fucking song I do not like on this album. The weak link appears to be Getting Smaller but even that is good. Every Day Is Exactly The Same is breath-fucking-taking.

God... this is fucking amazing. :D

Thanks Trent. :D

Can't wait for your god damned 5.1 mix now :D

give it a little time eminem. on my first listen i was pretty bored and said "well its not awful but its not so great". but ive listened to it 4 or 5 more times and it is a top notch album.

maybe i am biased cause im a big nin fan though :D

I like it, but I had no burgeoning pre-conceived notions of what I wanted it to be (other than I liked fragile and wanted to listen to what came next).

LOL I understand you have bad taste :lol

it's ok. but i'd be lying if i said i wasnt terribly dissapointed.

I think it's near impossible for Trent to make any more albums that can top the masterpiece work of Downward Spiral.

i dont know if i would call the downward spiral a masterpiece. it has some of the all-time greatest songs ever (hurt, a warm place, closer, march of the pigs) but overall the record has some songs that i dont like much (reptile, mr self destruct). the fragile is a lot better than DWS

This is a great album. It must be a good day to be a hardcore NIN fan.

Reznor is an extremely smart musician, I envy his talents in taking what you typically don't consider music (e.g. noise, ambience) and making it drive the song. I don't mean like My Bloody Valentine where the noise is a replacement for typical guitar driven rock; Reznor is more about the noise being a completely different element, detached from the idea of experimental noise rock, played along with the messed up guitar and beats. He wants everyone to know that he's first and foremost an industrial artist, and he wants to make it count instead of winging it (*cough*Fliter*cough*) This is not an easy thing to pull off, most songs that take this approach sound like really cheesy midi files with sound effects thrown in. :D Truly gifted.

I will say, however: Isn't Reznor approaching his 40's (or already there)? He's still really bitter and angsty, I hope the guy is ok. The songs are excellent, but I'm shocked that someone as old as he is still has this bottled up raw angst scattered throughout his songs.

w00t! Mac users, head over to nin.com. Garage band download is in the current section for The Hand That Feeds for your remixing pleasure.

Fragile & Broken > DWS. This album might or might not be, needs more time.

Dead

well not really...yet
Fragile is pretty much the pinacle of Reznors career quite honestly. Im liking the new albumer better on repeat listens, its just that I really had no idea how to approach this thing....following a double album is always daunting....

You can't be too picky. NIN like every other band that has been around since the early 90's have already put out a lot of material. You can't expect to have yourself another Pretty Hate Machine or Downward Spiral.

I like it so far, but am missing the last three tracks. The first three tracks are alright, but it picks up with The Hand that Feeds, in my opinion.

settle a debate for me - in the copy I have, there are "skips" in the music, with lyrics being cut off even though the music is continuing. My friend says it's errors in the encoding process, I say it's intentional. Do you hear skips?

Are you speaking of All The Love In The World? That's meant to be there, if you listen closely you can make out what Trent is going to say. I guess the idea is that Trent is stopping himself to make a point, that he's sort of past the self destruction.
