It's a solid album. It's certainly different from Reznors previous works. I guess I've had a preconception of what Nine Inch Nails really is musically. This record completely irradicated that preconception.
I'm definately not saying it's a bad album, because it's not. I think it'll sneak into my regular rotation of records over the next little while, but I can't say it's what I was expecting after The Fragile.
I love how it sounds a little more raw that the super production of The Fragile, it's a great step up, but old school Nine Inch Nails fans might be a little disappointed.

Gantz said:That won't be too hard unless Maynard pulls another Emotive album :lol Which I doubt TOOL would do. Just face Trent has jumped the shark.

Here's a page that actually shows all of the different formats (DVD-A/SACD/DualDisc) and their respective specifications.SKluck said:Any real advantage of either mix? I would assume DVD-A would sound better because its more exclusive and requires distinct hardware, but what do I know.
(A CD is 16 bit). the Dolby Digital mix is limited to 48KHz sampling, so it has about half (depending on what sampling rate was used to encode the DVD-A) of the information present in the DVD-A mix.# DVD-Audio uses PCM at up to 96 kHz (192kHz for stereo) sample rate and up to 24 bits per sample.

edit : after a few (about 10) listens of the album in full, i'm stoked. the end of 'you know what you are?' (as well as the big comedown-ish vocals in it); the title track; ONLY (my favourite so far i think) with that awesome squiggly synthy thing at 1.24, and the fuzzy quake-ish sounding whatever-it-is just after ; and the coda of 'beside you in time' which is fucking beautiful and just.. wow. rambling on, but i'm pretty fucking impressed. i feel dirty for downloading it, but.. i couldnt control myselfi don't understand how anyone could call this 'garbage'.
i can't imagine what the 5.1 mix is gonna sound like... got it on super express post from amazon come release day![]()
it's ok. but i'd be lying if i said i wasnt terribly dissapointed.

Depending on how narrow your definition of "music" is......what you typically don't consider music (e.g. noise, ambience)

FrenchMovieTheme said:i dont know if i would call the downward spiral a masterpiece. it has some of the all-time greatest songs ever (hurt, a warm place, closer, march of the pigs) but overall the record has some songs that i dont like much (reptile, mr self destruct). the fragile is a lot better than DWS
I expect all you Mac users to have some remixes for us to listen to!kitchenmotors said:w00t! Mac users, head over to nin.com. Garage band download is in the current section for The Hand That Feeds for your remixing pleasure.
bune duggy said:settle a debate for me - in the copy I have, there are "skips" in the music, with lyrics being cut off even though the music is continuing. My friend says it's errors in the encoding process, I say it's intentional. Do you hear skips?
