Ninja Gaiden 4 - Reviews Thread

I'll never understand people who use two different pronunciations for certain words. It's like, 'just pick one dammit, even if it's wrong!'

Yup. It honestly has always annoyed me a little when folks say Ninja Gayden.

I mean Nobody says Jujutsu Kaysen, right? Or at least I hope so.

Some CGI (hell, most CGI) doesn't age that well, but who could not love this:

Cool cool, my finger is on the trigger. I await your impressions with baited breath.
Ok so I'm back. I have played about 3 hours of the game so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Mainly we were discussing the combat and I have to say....that it's different. but familiar. Some tried and true combat techniques you'd come to expect from Ninja Gaiden (from Xbox forward) is all there and they dialed up the speed to 11.

I haven't played as Ryu yet, but Yakumo is like Ryu on acid. The controls are super responsive and even my old ass feels like I have super human reflexes while playing this game. I'm playing the game on Hard mode. I'll add some pros and cons for ease of digest:

Pros:
- Fast, fluid combat that is frantic but somehow you can still follow if you're a fan of the reboot series.
- traversal is also dialed up and complete with longer ability to wall run, air dash. All feels familiar but faster compared to previous entries.
- Combos like the Izuna Drop and Flying Swallow all return to your arsenal very early in the game.
- Progression of skills feels immediate. You start unlocking skills and arts within 20 min of playing (depending on how good you are, I guess).

Cons:
- Ravenblood mode sucks balls. It's slow but somewhat mandatory to deal with certain enemies in specific situations.
- There's a bit of poise within the combat, so Yakumo would get hit, but there's no real indication outside of seeing your lifebar go down. This is not just from bullet damage, but some melee attacks as well. Poise is even more prominent in RavenBlood mode. It the other Ninja Gaiden entries, you know you messed up because when you got hit you would react to it. Sometimes I didn't know I was close to death because I was not staggered by some attacks. Before you know it, the game is warning me I'm close to dead audibly.

Overall, I would say my general feel of the game upon playing for the short time that I did was of genuine excitement and some nostalgia. As familiar muscle memory began to dust itself off I felt powerful right off the bat. I would highly recommend if you're a fan of the series. This is a great entry so far...still more to see though.

Cheers for taking the time out for the impressions. Seems like a fairly decent effort, guess im picking it up after the new car smell wears off BF6. And yeah, big fan of 1+2 but burned by 3 like many.

Thanks again, enjoy the rest of the game!

Had an issue getting it to run on windows ... finally got it going by turning off HDR and having to hit alt enter every time it launches lol. Then turns out the game sucks.. it's a turd.. as in stupid enemies and controls like shit....
