Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound - out July 21

how is there no thread for this?

I don't know, but I continue to be hyped for this. I'm way more into classic Ninja Gaiden than the 3D games myself (an unpopular opinion, I'm sure, but it's not out of ill will).

Unbreakable Determination is still one of the all time best NES action platformer stage themes in my book, so hearing a good remix is always welcome.

I'm stoked for this and the new Shinobi game. Buying both but I'm curious which game GAF thinks will come out on top. Both come from reputable devs.

I will prob get both as I assume it will be priced around $40

But to me the art style for Ninja Gaiden is far better, as Shinobi looks like a comic book and not feeling it as much.

Outside of a handful games I'd say yes. Esp. in level design. Even their best games had awful level design
Not saying they are perfect but a studio with Madworld, Bayonetta 1/2, Vanquish, Metal Gear Rising, The Wonderful 101, Nier Automata, Astral Chain or even Transformers Devastation in their portfolio isn't trash at all.

I don't know that names of the tracks but the song popped right into my head lol. Had to check on youtube to make sure.

Completely derivative gameplay and art style of 2D games from the last decade.

The point behind the NES/Game Gear/Master System games was Ryu was a completely stable platfrom from which your attacks and special weapons are launched.

He also moved 1.5x faster than the enemies.

I'll grant the old games didn't have a coherent aesthetic but as the kids say "this ain't it chief."

With the low graphic demands needed, nice to see this and Shinobi releasing on PS4 along with Onimusha 2 remastered. Year of the ninja/samurai/shogun whatever.

Just tried the demo. Doesn't feel like Ninja Gaiden at all. It feels like the Messenger. It still looks like it will be fun but the controls are definitely a learning curve. I've waited decades for a 2D Ninja Gaiden sequel and it looks like I'll have to keep waiting. Based on the demo, Cyber Shadow is the better Ninja Gaiden.

Most likely gonna be good, but i am so tired of pixel art aesthetics that i ain't even approaching this. Would've preferred this being made with high effort like Ori or another art direction that looks cool and unique.

This is by the same guys who make Blasphemous correct?

Certified banger incoming.

Yes! Proving they can also make a faster paced action title, rather than being as slow and deliberate as Blasphemous. They understood the assignment.

I will say there is one particular mechanic that is similar to the Messenger, of course, but the combat has a lot more depth than that.

I'd add the presentation and music as well as the setting and story have far more Ninja Gaiden DNA than the other ninja titles, yet it's also trying new things too. Which makes sense, in my opinion, since this is approaching more of a 16-bit or 32-bit take on the property, rather than going for a strictly 8-bit approach.

Is there something wrong with me to think this looks more like Shinobi than the actual new Shinobi?
Too much blood but otherwise yeah this is Shinobi 3 in so many ways.

I saw that there was a demo on Steam, anybody tried it?

tried the demo with LSFG 2x frame gen to 120fps and specialK forced reflex. Feels smooth!

It looks to much like Blasphemous. They shouldve made it look more distinct.

Demo felt like the messenger - the mechanics are basically a copy?

Anyway I though the intro "tutorial" was horrible and I could not get through it - just jamming mechanics down your throat

I think if it actually felt like Ninja Gaiden people would hate it. it's way too unforgiving in how it feels and how it controls for modern players
Not saying it about NG but this is what happened to me with Ghosts N Goblins Resurrection. I forgot that I like my memories and the aesthetics way more than actually playing those games. I hated Resurrection for...playing like Ghosts N Goblins.

I haven't played The Messenger or any of those so take that as a disclaimer. Feeling like NG or not, which I have no idea anymore what that exactly feels like anyway, this game is tight, fast and slick. Sounds like a nun's pussy on Christmas but no, it's the new Ninja Gaiden game.

Anyway. I liked this a lot and replayed the level twice. The boss was also a fun design mechanics wise imo. I also love Blasphemous and I think they nail that sweet spot between 16 bit and PS1 2D games like nobody else. It looked killer with the CRT filter.

lol, ok... I love howGhosts n Goblins (especially Super Ghouls n Ghosts) plays. and I think for Ghosts n Goblins the core controls are way more of an integral part of the franchise than for Ninja Gaiden. As long as Ninja Gaiden has wall jumps and is challenging it's close enough I think

Super is the only one I still enjoy on a certain level actually. They're lovely games, just not into them anymore and Resurrection was a big "oh...right..." rude awakening. Not a dig on the games themselves though.
