Ninja gaiden VS. RE4. FIGHT!

having spent a large part of the day playing RE4 i cant help but comment on how great the game looks. Beautiful. It is lacking alittle colorwise(brown brown brown)but whatever. Its still a masterpeice. I havent played a console title that looks this good since ninja gaiden which brings me to my thread title. for those who have enjoyed both, which wins graphically IYO? although both have pushed this gen to the limit i'm gonna have to give the nudge to NG. The image is just more solid and the colors are just so rich.

RE4 looks amazing and has some nice atmosphere and depth to the graphics like fog and haze and all that but i guess the GCs limits were reached texturewise but thats expected. the game is HUGE. Its still amazing that a little 199 purple box would even be in the same league as the X though. with that said, 2 things...where is the PS2s NG/RE4? :lol and lastly This could be proof that no matter how much crap MS and sony are trying to feed us, both machines will be pretty close in power. as long as both can handle textures and all of the cool effects that make the polys look good, i dont see how they'd be any different.

Although RE4 is a nice looking game it doesn't compare IMO to Ninja Gaiden.

The textures in RE4 just hurt it too much to really gush about it's graphical beauty all the time.

He isn't comparing the gameplay, he's specifically noting aesthetic detail. Reading comprehension is fun for you and me.

Seriously...do you people read beyond the title?

I take this time out only to express my desire to have you stop posting. I am focusing my energy into the internet in hopes it works.

Wow super match.
If i really have to answer this thread i would say RE4. After all it's so out of the blue to compare the 2 that it all comes down to taste. My taste is RE4.

I haven't read any messages in this thread. I just read the topic. All I have to say is this.

You're a fucking idiot.

Can he have my tag??? I think it's well deserved

wtf? :lol are all of you just half asleep? i'm referring to graphics. geez. both games push each respective system pretty well and i'd say art and tech wise are pretty comparible. i'd say the smart money is on the people with decent responses actually having played both games and well the other responses....

Playing RE4 (one of the greatest games this gen), I noticed how the graphic style is very similar to NG one... I'm not talking techincal, but simply regarding artistic feeling. Many times I tought that some RE4 levels could as well be from NG, and vice versa. If Itagaki decided to make a survival horror game, it could have very well ended up on being similar to RE4.

Technically wise NG is obviously superior, but RE4 developers made an astounding job on masking GC limits using great art, video filters and making everyting look more realistic desaturating the colors.

OMG!!!! its a WORTHY reply!!! THANK YOU!!! and yes you also hit the nail right on the head! this is exactly how i feel about the 2 and is why i even brought it up. kudos to you! :D

Why not just change the title to "Xbox vs. GC. FIGHT!" and be done with it?

Seriously, though, while both games look awesome, I'd have to give the nod to Ninja Gaiden, simply because it's not using any tricks to achieve what you see.

devil may cry 3 in an unexpected write-in victory. then ninja gaiden. then re4 miles and miles behind, for all its obvious merit.

edit: oh wait i didn't read the initial post either. but the actual topic of this thread is of no interest whatsoever, so i'll let my irrelevant reply stand.

As someone who has owned and completed both several times, I can say that Ninja Gaiden has better graphics overall.

There are areas in which RE4 looks nicer than Ninja Gaiden, but as a complete package:

Textures
Polygon counts
Lighting
Number of enemies on screen
Animation
Framerate
Size of areas

Ninja Gaiden has RE4 beaten. But like I said, you won't find this to be resoundingly so through the whole game.

For example, comparing the outdoor areas at the beginning of both games, you'll likely be unimpressed with what Ninja Gaiden has to offer, while RE4 has slightly better textures with things like rocks and leaves.

The characters in Ninja Gaiden are smoother looking, but I wouldn't bet against there actually being more polygons in a villager. However, there are several "Gigante" style bosses in Ninja Gaiden, all of which are comparable in size to Re4's.

As for effects, it's a tough one. But taking into account how much animation actually happens in NG and how silky smooth it comes across, there's really no argument.

Ninja Gaiden is 60 FPS, and has MUCH larger stages on the whole.

Best looking console game of this generation if you take all things into account. Though that's just my opinion.

Wow, when i 1st read this i thought i was confused and NG was something other then i thought. I double checked and yep, NG is a game that is super hard to get into.

unless it improves 200+% after you beat Mr Knumbchuck guy then i doubt i'll ever get back into it. The camera just felt yuck to me compared to most 3d games of that kind.

i am sure if it is being compared to RE then it must have been liked by someone though. it came highly recomended to me so i was suprised when i played it that it felt so unnatrual. as far as graphics. Mr. Knumbchucks looks all sqaure muscle type so not sure how the 2 games would be anywhere on the same block in that compartment unless again it takes a full 180 after that.

All it proves is that having fantastic art direction can elevate a games visuals quite a bit.

definitely ninja gaiden.

though i have yet to play re4, or even see it other then in screen shots.

:lol

I never said otherwise. Those were a list of attributes by which the games could be compared.

However, there can be no disputing that Ryu animates better. I mean really, everything in Ninja Gaiden has amazing animation.

Sounds like the game was too hard for you?

just curious, how many enemies can there be at a time on NG? I just passed RE:4 and in mercenaries there are easily 10 or more at a time coming at you and it doesn't seem to slow down.

so are there any ps2 games that match the splender of re or ng? silent hill comes to mind but i dont think it quite gets there.

NG is definitely better in a technical sense. It has native 16:9 support and it didn't have to downgrade to 16-bit color. Looking at them both in a purely subjective sense, RE4 probably looks better though with superior art direction and effects.

It's not like a ninjas to zombies comparison. But as an answer to your question, the enemies don't arrive in hordes like that. However, there's much more going on and much larger areas. Not to mention the entire world is as seamless as your average 3D Zelda game.

MGS 3 comes to mind. I would put both RE 4 and NG over it graphically, but it is a gorgeous game, all things considered.

Itagaki is making a Survival Horror Game ... Ninja Gaiden Black

Surviving that shit on the hardest difficulty will bring a new meaning to horror! :lol :lol :lol

Graphically? Who gives a shit? This isn't 1993.
Well, is that not what we're comparing in this thread? I wouldn't really compare NG, RE 4 and MGS 3's gameplay to begin with.

Wow, way to not even attempt to get past the first level. And while I'm sorry the first level dind't turn your world upsode down, the ensuing game will blow your mind. I'm telling you all this as a friend. I'd really recommend trying again.

That aside, I think RE4 had slightly better graphics, and while I know this isn't part of the comparison, I would say NG had better gameplay.

I wish. more like the camera was to hard for me to get over.

if it is really worth it i'll give it another go one day but with my recent intake of about 70 new games i am being real picky and find myself bouncing all over if it does not grab my attention in the 1st 10 minutes.
