Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

Lol. I put my cases on their side anyways.

So how does Street Fighter control? Any impressions yet from anywhere other than Famitsu?

Only game i'm gonna pick up at launch from the looks of it.

Oh well, there goes that theory (I guess mixing swipes and scribbles is harder then just plain scribbling).

In other news are you still going to the Carousel event tomorrow? I'm going to be going with some friends at 12, so if you're heading down at a similar time we can awkwardly greet each other and stuff.

I'll be the brown guy hanging around with the creepy redhead dude in this photo.

Yeah dude I'll be there tomorrow, you probably know what I look like - so hit me up and say hi!

I'd like to know this as well..

Anyone from the street fighter community try it out? How's the circle pad?

Edit: Also, can anyone please try this in 2D-mode instead of that non-interesting "dynamic mode"?

To be perfectly honest *shrug*. The AI was too aggressive for me so I barely managed to do anything. Mind you, I'm a terrible player to begin with.

Cool, will see you there then!

Still debating whether I should buy Johntv's extra pre-order 3DS tomorrow when I stop by 8-4 offices.

I want the shiny new toy, but those launch titles look pretty goddamn awful.

I can't be the only one who fucking hates these commercials, right?

It's just embarrassing to watch. Nobody acts like that when they're playing games.

I have to change the channel or mute the TV and look away.

Fuck's sake.

I liked the Wii ones at first but I don't watch TV so not a bother with these

I am jealous though because I cannot see 3D so this is like mocking me

I hope we get an 8-4 podcast soon after launch

I should put it another way: midnight launches. Do they happen?

Or even early morning openings, for that matter.
I can't recall any Japanese midnight launches. Some big stores are confirmed to open at 08.30.

You should buy it and then ship it to Osaka for me because of the $30 dollars I never got from you + interest.

>:(

j/k :)

I do believe a podcast is in the works from 8-4 that's all 3DS all the time.

But don't quote me. I am just a guy who likes to drink that cold crisp nama bieru when I'm in Tokyo.

As for you, BudokaiMR2, I totally owe you for the Macross game still. I could either reactivate my paypal account or... are you going to be at either GDC or E3? ;)

Haha I am 100% joking. I have probably bought 3-4 copies of that game and given them away to different people. Have to spread the love for hot variable fighter action.

I am probably going to call around a couple of local places tomorrow morning about 3DS units. I had pretty incredible luck with the DS Lite launch(free DS!) so maybe it's destined to happen again! Just the built in AR stuff is enough to warrant the purchase for me. Steel Driver isn't that far off either.

There are some longer lines in Akihabara now it seems. Some of the shops that appeared to be pre-order only are actually pre-order only just for the early start of sales. They'll still have same day sales, but not until the normal sales time. This includes Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara. I think it might include Shinjuku as well, but I'm not sure.

For Yodobashi we had other information.

Unclairty make me upset so I decided to call them to confirm about same-day sales you are right, according to the random clerk on the phone same-day sales(launch day sales) are limited to only thoese with reservations(generally stores that large, still have extras anyway, but obviously not enough to accomdate people lining up).

According to Inside Games, the store didn't officially announce that they'll have same-day sales until closing time. There were apparently 100 people lined up by 23:00. Hope it's not too long when I get there in the morning, as I need to get two more systems!

Just got mine in Hong Kong tonight. HKD$3199 for 3DS, HKD$380 for Street Fighter 4, and a whooping HKD$459 for Layton. Inflated prices but I feel it is worth it :D

Mucked around with built-in stuff like 3D camera and Miis for a bit, and played a bit of Layton.

The handheld has a really fine finish. I am surprised how well it is built really. Feels really sturdy and not for a moment does it feel like a toy. Very happy with the D-pad, slide pad, buttons, stylus.

Love the 3D effect so far. It is not jaw-droppingly good yet for the little I have experienced with Layton, but it has me wonder how am I ever going to go back to 2D.

Still no word on the battery life yet?

Well eastmen from Beyond3D forum says his friend from Nintendo World got almost 7 hours out of it on the second highest brightness with full 3D. That's playing AR games.

I'm reading a lot that the 3D effect in most games is only depth. Which games exactly show things popping out of the screen?

You turn down the 3D-volume slider to the lowest level.

Kid Icarus has some good popping 3D but the action is so fast that your brain hesitates between following the (pretty immersive) action or appreciate the 3D.

Flying and shooting sections within Kid Icarus with 3D turned on is the most alien thing in existence for your brain.

hmmm Layton was even rated the less impressive of the 3D games, Nintendogs being the most impressive to most so thats good to hear sorry that your had to pay so much above

Obvious is obvious.

That's the point, I turn it back down, and the game all of a sudden becomes so ordinary. Even though it is a little straining on the eyes, I just want to keep it on, and I don't see myself turning the effect off. I would rather just turn off the console and rest my eyes.

Or, if some stupid developer makes a 3D effect that makes your eyes puke.
