Nintendo 3DS Japanese Launch Thread

i just realised that i will be able to recreate my avatar with the AR cards. i won't change it though, cause that kitty is no longer with us and my avatar is in his honour.

but i'll definately be getting all my cats to play with the samus morphball IN 3D!

Boosh, just killed the battery to the point where it would auto shut-off every time I tried to turn it back on.

There was a bit more than 2 hours and 45 minutes straight playing time from full juice with full 3D, full volume, WiFi, AR games, camera taking, etc.

The surface of the unit inside looks so cheap with the denty-shine. Gotta see it in person, obviously, but it photographs horribly.

Same thoughts here. At least from the pictures the paint looks extremely low quality. Judging by this alone, I don't know if I will buy one at launch here in the US.

You know, looking at all these pictures, everyone in Japan DOES carry a bag with them. I mean, almost everyone in every picture has a backpack or a satchel or a purse or a tote or a messenger bag. It's amazing to me.

I kinda wish it was like that here. No wonder StreetPass is going to be huge there.

Here in San Francisco it's pretty much the same. Lots of people carry something around. I'm actually looking forward to StreetPass because of it.

Full brightness?

I had forgotten how excited I get watching a new console launch. I'm getting a little giddy with anticipation for next month's US launch after seeing these pics.

That's...not great. Not good either.

Not bad. Less brightness and no wi-fi but full 3D might get over 3 hours.

I dunno about this 'not bad' business. That sounds pretty bad to me. Not even 3 hours with stuff on full. Of course I'll still get one, but it is pretty bad. Worse than PSP.

I just wish Nintendo had of made the 3DS just slightly bigger so it could fit in a bigger battery.

How big is the onboard memory for saving? Game saves, music, photos, etc..

Without inserting the SD-Card, how many blocks or MB are available on just the base unit ?

Speaking of loading times, in those unboxing vids from earlier today I felt that the time it took the 3ds to power on and boot up to home screen was noticeably long. Not so much that it is annoying (yet, I suppose), but enough for my attention to focus on it.

Wait what? Do we really have to turn off the system in order to switch games? The DSi did not require it so I would assume the 3DS wouldnt either. Or are they taking this feature out of the 3DS?
Can anyone confirm this?

why do the people still line up early in the morning then? :/

Because 3DS is a cool tech gadget, people are taking 2 hours off today to get their preorder and go to work, so they can start playing immediately when they drive home in the afternoon.

well we known the low end numbers. this just confirms it. it's the variation of settings that's the real test

Okay yeah you're right I just looked up the battery life estimates again from Nintendo. 2.45 hours isn't bad with max everything and wi-fi on. I play my dsi at 30% volume and half brightness at all times and expect to do the same with the 3DS. Hoping to get at least 4 hours of play on one charge.

No you don't! You can switch out games without the need of powering down first. I was just commenting on boot times. It's 10 seconds. :/

Who said anything about needing to do that?

I have this pre-ordered. Should I go buy this today? I leave Japan in one year. I'm conflicted!!!

Part of me wants it cause it's new. another part likes money.

well. the chinese guy in the video kept turning off the 3DS whenever he switched games, so I thought that they took out the feature.
ah ok thanks the poster with the gorilla avatar

So does anyone know for sure if it is still available?
yes. we know for sure it is still available. hell, it's more available because you can much more easily go to the menu now.

It's region locked, why would you want to buy it there when you won't be there for long???

Oh, forget it, I probably no nothing about this kind of stuff and made myself look like an ass.

2:45 is not bad at all for full brightness, wifi, 3D, and cameras on. When in the world is anyone going to be using all those features at once for nearly 3 straight hours. I'd wager at normal brightness, no wifi, no camera you'll get plenty of play time out of it.

:lulz, I wish my PSP lasted 2:45 minutes on full brightness. I would always barely get 2 hours while playing Disgaea.

Same here with my 3000. Get just about 2 hours on full brightness playing off the UMD.

Played Winning Eleven 3D for about 10 minutes and my eyes got tired so I turned off the 3D effect. Not sure if I will ever turn it back on for that game. I am also starting to understand the 3D yoi Japanese gamers talk about. I like the augmented realty games though. Pretty cool.

I'm bored with Nintendo games and won't get a 3DS until there's an Ouendan-caliber breakthrough title, but I always love seeing launch photos. Just a heads-up... 8-4 Play will post a podcast within 24 hours of their 3DS impressions, that should be a great episode.
