Nintendo 3DS Software Showcase [E3 2012] - Trolls, come see how it's done.

Whiners.

I can understand the anger over yesterday. They had nothing impressive to show.

They might have all been announced long ago, but they had a lot of bad-ass games on display today.

This. It's understandable for a new console launch to wet the appetite of gamers with tons of annoucements and upcomimg games, but with a console in its second year it only makes sense focusing on the next 6 months with thd holydays coming and to prep a killer line-up and they just did exactly that. Impressive line-up of 3DS games.

...you're waiting for another price drop, less than a year and half into the system's life, after they've already dropped the price by $80 since launch? o.O

A guy can hope can't he? ;)

I picked one up for my brother's bday when the first price drop hit, figured might as well give it a shot for myself. Nothing to lose waiting a couple months.

While I was hoping for something completely surprising, at least Castlevania looks great! Scott Moffitt just SpotPassed me a bit ago to reward me watching an hour of not Zelda, Mother, nor Fire Emblem, heh. He has all puzzle pieces, so I finally finished the Mario Tennis piece I couldn't finish at the Zelda Symphony, hurrah!

While I agree, I think one little teaser at a major 2013 title wouldn't have hurt. It also doesn't help that they spilled the beans on epic mickey, castlevania, and nsmb2 a month prior to e3.

Is there a good list or liveblog or even a video of everything that came from this event? I missed it.

Layton 5 might be in the hands of Level 5, I thought they started their intentions to publish Layton in the west themselves.

Unless they want to release it on iOS instead or something, I don't know if that's going to be an option. More recently they seem to have indicated that their US office is incapable of actually localizing and publishing retail titles yet, and so they're still interesting in simply tying up with established publishers to release their games instead. See: Ni no Kuni.

Only two things worth seeing, really. Paper Mario and NSMB 2 demonstrations. Luigi's Mansion trailer was cool, but just a trailer, and it's on the eShop anyway. In 3D, to boot.

we dont' want to watch the games we already know about for 2+ hours. If they would have said that to begin with I could have saved myself the misery of watching both their conferences.

That's all fine and dandy. But we want megatons.

Trust me, Im right there with you guys. I nerdraged the whole fucking 2.5 hours Nintendo wasted of my life. But honestly, we're covered for the year. Nintendo just has no reason, business wise, to blow our heads with games we're not gonna have short term. They know gamers like us already bought the damn thing. They know the people who are on the fence are gonna buy the damn thing when they eventually announce Zelda, Metroid, etc. They're not in a hurry and frankly dont have any reason to considering what Sony's doing. It just really sucks for all their loyal fans.

Very well put, I agree one hundred percent.

They have a great holiday with NSMB2, Luigi's Mansion, Paper Mario, Pokemon... but then what? There won't be another E3 for a year and they've only shown games for the next six months. In the time before last E3 and this E3 they didn't show much. What does that mean for games in 2013?

They'll probably hold one of those surprise conferences they love so much to announce the next batch of soon to be released games. That was pretty much their MO last generation. E3 is not the end of the world for this company.

I think NoA fails to realize that its difficult to use this strategy when (A) no other 3rd party follows along with you, and (B) you lost everyone's faith in your localization decisions over the years.

A fan reaction such as this was obviously going to happen. And sadly it just makes a otherwise strong lineup look weaker

This I can agree with. The third party situation is worrisome. Nintendo was set for a year with RE, KH and MGS coming down the line, but that's coming to an end soon. They really needed to announce a big third party game.

We already know Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are coming. I'd guess they're coming first half 2013 at least.

They should try to rustle up a FFVI remake. That'd be pretty sick.

Castlevania and Epic Mickey are decent but not huge and nothing extraordinary for a Nintendo console.

I think you know which remake would make everyone forgive and forget, and it's certainly not VI!

This further confirms my "2012 is real" theory. Even Nintendo sees no need to bother announcing games that wouldn't be out until after the apocalypse.

If the civilization is still here in 2013, as a 3DS owner, I am not worried at all. The 3DS has a crap ton of great Japanese made games that will more than likely end up state side next year and TGS will definitely see a lot more. It is the console game side of Japanese publishers that I am worried about.

The console game industry has shrunk so much, in the past 6 years, that I fear future E3's will begin to look more and more deserted as publishers will only be able to come out with a hand full of titles each year. This is because the dev cycles will be even longer than they are now. This industry is about to change in ways that we are not prepared for as selfishly hungry gamers.

Looks like I'm selling my 3DS... I was hoping for local American/European games, because Japanese games don't do it for me.

Ever since I got my 3DS (or when it was announced) I was always hoping Nintendo would finally announce a VC service for GBA games.

I thought they would so something like that in this year's E3.

At least Fire Emblem was finally confirmed so I'm pretty happy about that!

So no Majora's Mask remake announced? Daaaaaah...

:(
I hope this isn't coming from seeing that fan-made trailer. It was an obvious fake.

Also, Nintendo said the next 3DS Zelda would be original. So yeah I wouldn't expect a Majora's Mask remake anytime soon.

Nintendo handhelds never get great western support unfortunately.

VII on 3DS would be huge, but it would be on any platform. And I think the expectation would be a balls-to-the-wall HD remake. Remember the "oh god why is this not on a console" reaction when DQIX was announced on DS? That but tenfold.

VI has a smaller following but I'd say there is a sizable portion of gamers who prefer it to the modern FFs, it originated on a Nintendo console (note that usually when SE does FF on a Nintendo system, it draws more from 1-6 than the later series) and it would probably sell amazingly.

Yeah dude, I don't know why you bought a 3DS if you don't play Japanese games.

Get a Vita, I guess. Sony seems to be pushing their own Western studios to make games for it, so you'll get that at least, even if third parties aren't on board.

The trouble is that many japanese games aren't even localised. Looking at the list of games shown I'm very disappointed. After KH comes out i'll be selling my 3DS as well.

I don't know what is more painful to me: Animal Crossing in 2013 or no SNES or GBA games in the VC. I'm deeply disappointed, and my expectatives were really low.

I'm very disappointed with the lack of Animal Crossing. I just don't understand why it wasn't there. It was at E3 2010 and 2011, and all of a sudden there's no mention of it at all at the last E3 before its release? What's going on here?! :(

We knew two things going into last night's conference.

1. Double-jump is a thing

2. Animal Crossing has been announced for 3DS

And Nintendo chose to talk about the benefits of the double-jump. : /

What a slew of great games!

Yes some were missing but I think they did a great job of covering everything that was shown. A trailer and some gameplay for each game. This is what a conference should be like! Paper Mario, Luigi's Mansion, Castlevania, New Mario 2 all looked extremely fun and Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing are on the way. The 3DS isn't letting up!

Total waste of time.

That guy demoing Mario Paper/NSMB2 was good though, fire the angry fuck and get the competent dude for next year.

I did get the impression that he was very angry...

Dude's eyebrows remains furrowed no matter what.

When I studied communication, the first thing we were told is that when you talk to people, you have to adopt an open and non-aggressive behaviour. That guy was just horrible at it.

the two things i was hoping for did not get announced:

- 3DS redesign

- Retro game

but hey at least, Scott Muffin got to talk about all the great games we already knew about so that's something i guess...

I didn't mind buying a Vita since it was region free. I do regret buying a NA 3DS.. I should have bought the Japanese 3DS instead. It just makes sense with Nintendo remaining so Japan and first party centric. If I ever get a WiiU (doubtful) it'll be the Japanese one.

So I get that nothing new was shown? Nintendo Nintendo what are you doing? Are you trying to kill 3DS momentum?
I'm glad I wasn't expecting anything from this after their E3 conference. I swear it's the last time I get hyped even if it's a new Nintendo console launch.

We'll probably get the game early next year while Japan might be lucky enough to get it during Q4

Lack of Animal Crossing news is frustrating as hell

lol

Do you think E3 actually means anything anymore? 3DS has a healthy line up of Mario titles and 3rd party games and that's plenty of momentum for now.

We all would have loved to see more unannounced games but E3 isn't really the place to do that anymore. Everybody prefers to save the big reveals for their own events.

So if they aren't announcing new stuff now?... When the hell are they going to do it?

Never. Because no game has ever been announced outside of E3 week.

So the WiiU has the problem of no long term announcements whereas the 3DS has the problem of no surprises since all the games were announced long ago.

E3 is dead. Bring on the Nintendo Directs. They deliver more surprises than this.

That dude playing nsmb2 was an ass. Hey, let's show off the multiplayer by not saving my friend from the bubble and solo speed running the whole level.
