Nintendo Amiibo Look a Bit Different in Final Production vs. Advertised

Peach, link and marth look noticeably worse mainly because of the hair and facial details but the rest still look pretty decent to me.

Shrug, they're fine. They were never going to look as good as the promo ones. Peach does look like the biggest downgrade though.
Anyone who really cares about qualify this much should invest in better figures.

They're decent quality figures of the smash bros cast, and that's fine with me.

Edit: You're most likely never gonna see characters like Fox, Captain Falcon, and Wii fit trainer get figures otherwise.

As someone that actually is fairly experienced buying collectible figures
...that didn't sound as nerdy in my head as I thought
I'm quite pleased with the final production run of Amiibos. At that price they are pretty high quality figures even post downgrade.
Most don't look as good as they did in e3, but a lot of them still look fantastic.
Mario and Yoshi look really high quality, and I'm very happy with how Fox, DK, Pikachu, Samus, and Kirby look.
There just aren't a lot of figures of these characters, and especially not at this quality. Of course, the Samus one doesnt' look as good as the figma, but there's like a 30 dollar difference here.
I imagine the likes of Peach and the Villager are quality control issues where there's nothing really wrong with them but the eyes/eye brows are printed on incorrectly (villager's eyes, like the kirby are slightly out of place making him look very odd). If you look at them in the store you'll likely find one with the eyes printed on correctly. It happened with the Jakks Link (similar price range) which mine had the eyes and eyebrows painted on slightly above where they were supposed to, but the others were fine.
If you are really worried about quality, stick to the cartoony ones like Mario, Yoshi, and DK and buy them in store. You should be safe and you'll easily get your money's worth.
The biggest issue the toy line has is that they are designed around the CG renders...but the CG renders weren't designed for Amiibos which is why some poses don't seem ideal (and require a weird colored base). I looked over the roster/CG renders and a ton of them should come out perfectly fine with only the FE characters with Sakurai's generic anime face probably being problematic (oh, and Shulk too...maybe)
Anyone that has their faces partly covered should look pretty good. So Captain Falcon, Shiek, Rosalina, etc should come out fine.
So...yeah, I'm pretty happy thus far. Yeah, I'd like all of them to be better...but you won't get that at sub $15.
I'm really glad Fox is great, there hasn't been a Star Fox figure yet and I've been looking for one since I was like 6.
are these mcdonalds toys
No, this is McDonalds quality

edit: I think Link fared well, I was worried about him since e3. The only thing shown in the pictures is the yellow stick, which isn't too horrendous.

It won't matter once we all have 3D printers!

I think he's aware Samus is a woman.
He's just pointing but she looks too feminine compared to her bounty hunter image.

How is a female bounty hunter in a power suit supposed to pose? Should she she wear underwear with a dickhole on the outside of her suit, just so we all know who the boss is?

Any game journalists reading this, if you some amiibos early, can you please break them open so we can see if it will be feasible to take the NFC chip out and put it into other things?

Something I hope Nintendo does later down the line is more "collector's edition" of figures. We know they are probably going to make different Marios and Links, maybe a more deluxe version for a higher price with nicer quality for those willing to pay.
wow skylanders figures are quality, how much are they usually?
The big ones MSRP at $16. The smaller ones are $10

I kind of hate that Samus pose. Looks silly and a bit femminen.
It's kind of telling that whereas Link and Mario have action poses, the space bounty hunter that blows up planets is standing on display, to show her wide bust and hips but her strikingly thin waist (surely just a coincidence arising from the use of the Varia suit). At least they couldn't put in a gratuitous panty shot like prototype Peach.

Not just the figures, but the games are quality as well. Some figures would light up when you set them on the portal through an electromagnetic field, some of them come in two halves, and can be mixed with one another.

Normal figures are around 10$, special figures are around 15$.

Yoshi looks cute :3

Honestly, the only one that seems like a big downgrade (and even the prototype was ugly) is Marth. Peach has some differences but the quality of the pictures doesn't really help.

I have no idea about figurine prices so I can't judge if they're worth the money. However, people seem to be ignoring the game aspect when judging the worth of the figurines. Then again, Nintendo hasn't shown much, so I guess they are to blame.

EDIT: Also, wow at the comment above about Samus' pose. If you are obsessed about finding sexism you'll always find it. To me, Samus' pose is imposing, like if she's a powerhouse.

Honestly i cant blame you for thinking like that, but seriously some people dont instantly think that when they see this amiibo. They just see samus they dont see samus displaying her hips and bust.. which btw is all in some super space armor.

These are so cool. *_*

Thankfully the amiibo I wanted most out of the first batch seems to be the one who turned out best based on these pics (Yoshi) so I'm not too mad. To be honest I don't think any of them look terrible aside from Marth and Link, but they were definitely downgraded which is a shame.

Some serious overreacting going on in this thread.

I've seen the finished product up close as my Wal-Mart just got an Amiibo display a few days ago and they look great. The paint job is better than Skylanders and is as good if not better than Infinity. The prototype paint job will always look better because they are not painted for mass production, but for display at trade show so the figurines are given a lot more TLC. When I saw them at E3, I told my friend "There's no way they'll look this detailed in the final product", but they came closer than I suspected.

Yeah that pose is pretty shit

I would have liked something like this:

I may be wrong but the only difference I see is lighting and angle, not to mention the small details are hard to see with less light and zoomed out.

There is a good chance the pro shots are cg anyway, meaning they would be perfect in every way.

on contrary, this is the last thing i'd hope...

for some of us that doesn't plan on collecting them all, what we do is to chose the best looking mario, and buy only that one.
wouldn't it be a real bummer if u bought that launch mario, and suddenly nintendo release a new mario with better pose?
if they're releasing different marios (ex: different costumes, that serve as different characters in-game), it would be a little more justifiable.

i'm also a shoes collector. and in the shoes world, if a model are about to have different colorways, people tends to wait for the one they like. only hardcore collectors that would buy every color for one model.
the downside is: if it's a new model, it would need a high sales immediately to justify releasing different colorways, but people aren't buying it because they are waiting for another color.
sometimes they ended up not releasing the alternative colors due to initial lack of sales. people didn't get their shoes, company didn't get their profit. sad.

we won't mind a $500 pure-gold plated link cuz we'll never gonna get it anyway, but a slightly different characters with slightly different price would probably ruin us.

I don't know, different figures having the same functionality since they are the same character seems alright with me.
If you are a big toy collector you'll buy them all, if you just want the functionality then you'll just buy the cheaper one. Skylanders kind of does it with like translucent limited edition versions, but I'd like (for example) Zelda U Link and Smash Link even if they do the same thing
Id just like to ask: is the "but they don't have NFC" thing a joke? Because NFC chips are fucking cheap as hell.
https://www.buynfctags.com/nfc-tags.html
It's not about the price but the added functionality. You aren't paying $12 for just a small figure, it's a small figure that you can use in several games in one way or another.

$0.85 per tag in a batch of 1,000 is pretty cheap. I wonder how much cheaper they get in even larger quantities like Nintendo would be dealing with.

Exactly. Saying "well they cost more cause uh... Nfc" is stupid as they are a negligible cost. Sheckles on the dollar.

Depends entirely on the type of nfc tag used. Given these figures are going to be storing character and possibly other game data (and possibly for multiple games too) I doubt Nintendo's going to be using anything with under 1k of memory and might even be looking at 4-8k tags which can run up to several dollars in bulk depending on ram size and chip speed.

Theyre a lot cheaper looking, especially the more detailed characters like link and peach. Somewhat expected but its those support stands that really make them look bad. Should have redesigned the character pose.

Common sense made it obvious that the product wouldn't look exactly like the promo ones Nintendo has been showing off. They still look good to me so I'll be getting one or two.

Cant wait to buy a few and take stylish photos, post them allover the web and wait for:

OMG! Those are amazing! Are these really retail Amiibos?!?!?!?? Werent they supposed to look like Sh#%?!?

Mario,Yoshi,Kirby,Pikatcu the new model better.

Marth, Peach the new model very cheap.

Samus wow <3

Waiting for Little Mac.

Link why they change the pose.
