They should consult Valve about it - Steam Deck got a firmware update to enable VRR via the USB dock. Not the kind of tech i see Nintendo discovering before 2035.

Is that what you're pinning your hopes on? That Switch 2 dock won't support HDMI 2.1 VRR but it will support G-Sync?G-Sync works over HDMI 2.0…
VRR sucks....I'm actually kinda encouraged by this thread.
I half expected Nintendo fanboys to tell us that actually VRR kinda sucks and we're wrong for wanting it, and anyway VRR TVs are too expensive and not mainstream yet.
Wasn't it supposed to be powerful??![]()
Nintendo Apologises For "Error" With Mention Of Switch 2 VRR TV Support
"The incorrect information was initially published"www.nintendolife.com
That was my exact thought, but I'll sell this one if a new one comes out.I mistakenly ordered a Switch 2 in error, it seems.
No it doesn't
PS5 VRR doesn't even work correctly
15 years ago the best TV was like a 50" 1080p plasma which likely looks like shit now because it lost all its brightness. I'm not saying that you need to get a new TV every year but I replaced one I bought in 2017 when the PS4 Pro came out and the difference is enormous. The tech did not evolve fast when we had CRTs but it has this century. This kind of topic always puts me in the minority on GAF.... we've never owned a VRR tv nor a 4K one for that matter, nor are any of our TVs larger than what would be called a medium size. I hate seeing wall-sized TVs in living rooms, and I've never kept a set for less than 15 years before replacing. TV-maxxing is weird to me.
Also, the "primary" mode for Switch 1/2 has always been handheld, and that's where the majority of play happens. Most families only put it on the TV when doing multiplayer and party games. I've seen this pattern firsthand a million times since we interact with a ton of Switch owners who are all families with kids like ours. The dock is generally treated more like a special tv-out convenience when you want to show something off or do 2-player local.
Is it the same though?ps5 VRR take years nothing burgers with bacons cheese frys pepsi annnnd porbably milkshack

I think it has one 2.1 port.I was using 4K 120hz with Gsync on my Samsung QN90A television paired with a 3080ti which only has HDMI 2.0 output. 8bit color.
They can't be using HDMI 2.0. The console can output HDR. Pretty sure some games are from 60fps to 120fps.You're not getting docked G-Sync either. You can thank Nintendo for cheaping out and going with HDMI 2.0 in 2025.
HDR is a 2.0 specThey can't be using HDMI 2.0. The console can output HDR.

The Switch will be HDMI 2.1....HDR is a 2.0 spec

Give me a break. The whole point of Switch is you can play it as a handheld or a traditional console. Switch Lite is by far the least popular model. This kind of topic always puts me in the minority on GAF.... we've never owned a VRR tv nor a 4K one for that matter, nor are any of our TVs larger than what would be called a medium size. Or earlier. PS4 is 1.4 and has HDR support.HDR is a 2.0 spec
Ooh, never mind I read it wrong anyway, I thought you meant the TVs HDMI 2.0.I mistakenly put 3080ti and not 2080ti.
The Switch will be HDMI 2.1.
PS5 doesn't use DP internally and convert it to HDMI through USB lolThe ps5 launched with an hdmi 2.1 port. I'm pretty sure that the switch 2 dosen't have an hdmi 2.1 port at all but someone can correct me if i'm wrong. I don't think the switch 2 is even capable of VRR in docked mode tbh.
Yeah, my assumption, VRR is an HDMI standard, the one everyone having issues with, Freesync and Gsync are another matter and I hope it has support for any of them since it has Gsync support in portable through DP anyway. I'm gonna start thinking many companies won't care about VRR and just truly on other standards at any momentIs going to be G-Sync only when docked until Nintendo resolves the issue.
Not to defend Nintendo, but VRR the standard for years? On Xbox yes, but on PS5 just very few select titles/graphic modesNintendo are the biggest joke in the industry. We're in the year 2025 where VRR has been the standard for YEARSSSSS and they're launching a new console without VRR in docked mode. Holy shit what an embarrassment and i don't wanna see one person defending clown crap like this.

The Steam deck or the Asus Rog Ally X, or the MSI Claw are better....
What? Not to defend Nintendo, but VRR the standard for years? On Xbox yes, but on PS5 just very few select titles/graphic modes
Is G-Sync compatible mode.I was using 4K 120hz with Gsync/VRR on my Samsung QN90A television paired with a 2080ti which only has HDMI 2.0 output. 8bit color no HDR.
If it does it in handheld why doesn't it do it docked?

You stole the words from my mouth.Wow that's pretty shitty.
They probably removed support so they can keep that as a value add for the OLED model down the line.
The only issue is a lot of tvs doesn't support Gsync, especially the olders one…Yeah, my assumption, VRR is an HDMI standard, the one everyone having issues with, Freesync and Gsync are another matter and I hope it has support for any of them since it has Gsync support in portable through DP anyway. Doubt it. If Nintendo's old Switch statistics are anything to go by "only" ~30% of users play exclusively in handheld mode.Well majority will play it on handheld mode.
which people keep bashing all these things?. People on here or other niche sites. I think outside of core hobby gamers nobody actually cares or even notices.Brother, sorry to be "that" guy but, just 'cause you don't have/use or need a VRR capable TV it means that Ninty - as usual - should skimp on these features and/or that it's OK for them to do so ? C'mon now...
The PS5 was blasted to hell and back for not featuring VRR for almost a whole year after its release, but somehow, we should give Nintendo a pass because...?
Regarding the handheld mode now, don't you find it funny that it's actually supported but - again - not so when you dock it ?
Let's be real man, this is yet another Nintendo bullshit due to them being cheap as usual - I don't see why they wouldn't be able to use a HDMI to HDMI supported dock, all these friggin' adapters have always had limitations (Samsung DEX users should be able to tell you about it).
Heck, people keep blasting the PS Portal, a 200 Eurodollars streaming device for a lack of BT and wifi6, but apparently, Nintendo with their almost 500 Eurodollars 2025 console are off limits when it comes to criticism...
I don't get it
I remember having to do the same when I upgraded my TV before the 2080ti. Was 8bit 4:2:0 if I recall, but hey, it worked for 120Hz at 4K through 2.0 for a few months![]()
Never tried 4K 120Hz…. Just G-Sync, 4K 60Hz no HDR over HDMI 2.0 and it works (My tv G-Sync certified)I guess the point I was trying to make is HDMI 2.0 can do 4K 120hz with VRR no problem. Bandwidth is not an issue. You will lose HDR though.
It's phenomenal in Helldivers 2. Blinding at times.Yup, until I got that 3080ti a couple months later. I didn't care about losing the HDR because it's shoddy on PC anyway.

Thats what Nintendo is banking onBoooooo
Waiting for that OLED redesign.
