Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

I said the same thing about 1,2 Switch, bomberman and street fighter 2.

I think ARMs will probably hit the $50 pricepoint, unless it's absolutely chalk full of features or has free DLC throughout the year or something.
Nah I can say with absolute certainty this will be $60 it's a tentapole title and really if you think Nintendo will price arms at $60 you'll ask yourself why they didn't do the same for the first splatoom.

Looking forward to this! Hope Nintendo Directs become a regular thing once again now that the Switch has released. I really don't understand why they keep announcing Nintendo 3DS stuff too, even tho there's a few big titles left to release on the thing like the new Fire Emblem and that ugly weird Pikmin spin off game.

In europe 1, 2 Switch and SBR cost 50€ while Zelda cost 70€, I don't understand why they are all considered full price, 20€ is a big difference.

All I need are release dates for Splatoon and Arms and I'm happy. I can't get my hopes up knowing there will be the inevitable 3DS portion that'll be grating to watch.

Love that Nintendo feel they have to explicitly say what a Direct is about nowadays, purely to try and head off the crazy hype-train nonsense at the pass :)

And even so, some of you guys are still going nuts with your predictions 😂

Never change.

It's sad that people like you want the 3DS to die just like that.
I do too

First of all, that was a good game.
Second of all, ARMS is made by the Mario Kart team.

And?

Just saying, if it doesn't sell, it'll price drop quickly. So, hopefully, this direct builds some interest.

Nice example. One of Nintendos games that didn't do well.

Donkey Kong Country Returns on 3DS price dropped pretty quick too. There are many more examples. Not even Nintendo game stays full price forever if they don't sell. =P But yes, it was a nice example of a good game that sold poorly and price dumped. Thanks!

Wow, out of nowhere! I think ARMs will in mid-late May and Spla2n in late June, those dates make the most sense to keep a steady pace. BTW, apart from BotW all major Nintendo releases on Switch will be heavily MP focused until fall. I think they should've mixed it a bit, but it makes sense to make people invite others to play the Switch. Can't say if it's poor planning or a deliberate decission.

Anyway, bring it on!

E3 can't come soon enough! I'm desperate to know about possible Wii U ports and Pokemon! This direct just simply doesn't do anything for me, besides any of the smaller stuff that'll get shown.

Side note: It's going to be a great showing from all three companies this year, I think! Something about the status of the industry and how 2017 has begun gives me high hopes that each side will give it their all this year!

plz stop with the 3ds. imagine how fucking exciting the switch would be if all the shit they've announced for it were actually coming to the switch.

Teaser for Smash port please.

Do you think we would get a teaser for Smash for Switch? or would they going to save it for E3 or future event?

If anything, we could get Inkling for Smash trailer if we are going to see any smash trailer this Wednesday. There is no way that I would expect to see anything smash-related this time.

Makes no sense from a business perspective. Makes absolutely sense from a gamer's perspective :(

I think ARMS is likely mid to late June- May would be a pretty quick turnaround from this week and it appears Street Fighter is the late May simultaneous world wide release.

Splatoon a month after- mid July sounds right.

People said this same exact thing about Splatoon.

Will ARMS give us the next wall of shame?
I wasn't thrilled about Splatoon when it was revealed, when I played the Testfire, when I bought the game, and when I played the sequel's Testfire.

I also wasn't thrilled about Arms when it was revealed and when I played it. In fact playing it pretty much cemented my lack of excitement for it.

If other people like it, then that's cool! I just don't feel like I ate crow when I judged Splatoon initially and feel similarly about Arms.

Arms wont be May, there's street fighter 2 on may 26th, so i expect nintendo will want to give that a few weeks breathing room (especially as they are effectively publishing it in europe)

Second Friday in June for ARMS, late July for Splatoon 2 are my guesses.

Edit - changed first Friday to second Friday.

I doubt that Sm4sh will get any new content other than a fusion of the 3DS and WiiU Stuff.

Inkling for sure for 5mash.

I hope we get a release date for Ever Oasis thrown in there. I suspect Smash is being kept for E3 since I fear it would overshadow both Splatoon and ARMS were it announced here. Maybe another teaser for Fire Emblem Warriors? We may get one for Echoes too since it comes out next week, but FireEmblemJP already released a bunch of trailers last week.

Either way, can't wait!

We'll get a date for Arms for sure, likely May as was always the expectation, though what I'm really hoping for is a demo. I played it myself at a pre-release Switch event and can attest that this game is exactly the kind that benefits from hands-on exposure to its fundamentals. (That, and I want to try out more of the characters and weapon sets, though I expect a demo will only cover the five fighters we've already seen.) I'm still on the fence about paying full price for it, much as I love the concept, so this Direct is what I've been waiting for: I need to hear about the richness of the content.

I expected Splatoon in July, but a big push for it now rather than at E3 suggests one of two things: it's coming sooner than we think, or E3 looks to be packed with news. Another Testfire would be splendid. And since this is set to be the last Direct before MK8D hits, we should hear more about the online infrastructure, as at this point we have next to no idea what Nintendo expects us to be paying for by the end of the year.

Other than that, I'm hoping for news on Pikmin 3DS (which captivated me from the start, and is the only known first-party title on the horizon other than FE Echoes and Ever Oasis) and, outside of the first-party calendar, a release date for Hollow Knight.

If we do get other small, scattered announcements, I wouldn't expect much more beyond the scale of something like BoxBoy 3 in NA. (And I know I'd love to see a small-scale, BoxBoy-sized first-party surprise show up on short notice on the Switch eShop.)

There is usually one new retail game announcement in each Direct, but if we get one this week for a title slated for later in the year, I could see it being a 3DS game rather than something for Switch. It makes more sense to announce a late-year 3DS flagship now rather than at E3, where the Switch news will bury it.

I take the 'talking mainly' as a hint that there is room for hype to build :-)

It always is. This happens with every Direct. They specify a focus and people go crazy thinking it means there will be nothing new or that ____ won't be shown, then we get new stuff and ____ is shown

Why? Nintendo is known to start to release flood of info closer to release dates

If it was not coming in May I doubt we would be getting a ND focused on the game

The one thing working against a May release is that NoE is distributing SF2 in Europe and that releases in May. Some view it as odd for Nintendo so compete with themselves with two fighters around the same time.

the Italian wording of the Direct points to ARMS and Splatoon being the only games actually "properly" covered (I expect some highlight on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Puyo Puyo too, but nothing "major"), while no 3DS game is mentioned, but they are more than teased.
I think that MK8 deluxe trailer, Puyo Puyo demo confirmation (going with the other thread), maybe an indie b-roll will be there alongised Arms and Splatoon focus (modes, characters, weapons, maybe date for Arms and Testfire 2 date for Splatoon 2).
3DS will have less focus but maybe more "contents" (considering hoe we know very little about Pikmin, Ever Oasis, and just FE had a good amount of updates)

I totally expect them to show more 3DS games than Switch games lol. Guess I'll hold on to my 3DS a little bit longer. Want to play DQXI anyway.
