Nintendo Dorect| Chrono Cross Remaster revealed

I read the comments and thought you guys were just being too pedantic.

Then I watched the trailer...holy shit lol, this is like a budget iOS port that they've said "yeah we might as well maximise revenue by putting it on consoles too"

Purchased the greatest hits version on ebay last month for $25. Didn't even realize is was a sealed copy till it was delivered. They must have manufactured an ass-load of these things. I'm not really a fan of the ai upscaled backgrounds, but the newly arranged soundtrack has peaked my interest. Best game soundtrack ever.

Everyone was crying over Arceus and its graphics when the trailer game was announced yet I saw it being played the OLED model and it looked fantastic. Reminded me immediately of BOTW

It'll probably get cleaned up just like Arceus did. Or like Halo: Infinite did (now that was truly a horrid sight)

My thoughts are it did look somewhat rough but I doubt that's how it'll look come July. It'll get touched up some

Apparently this game is a true classic too. It made GameInformer's top 100 list coming in at #55

55. Chrono Cross

"If ever there were a threat to the Final Fantasy Empire, it would be the Chrono series. The latest chapter, Chrono Cross, far surpasses anything ever attempted in an FF game. Playing the numbers game much like Konami's Suikoden, this dynamic adventure includes over 40 playable characters and two gigantic quests, yet never loses a step in delivering a deeply moving story. The complex combat system and dynamic look are considered to be the most spectacular Square has ever envisioned"

To be fair I would only pickup Chrono Cross again if it went through a FF7:R type rework. Just too many insurmountable issues for me to get over.

Great game that always gets dog piled. Glad more people will be able to play it.

The PSX version has some absolutely stunning graphics. Quite possibly Square's most visually impressive game from that gen.

It's even available on Amazon, brand new, lol. I've actually bought it twice that way, once in 2006, the other in 2017 as a gift.

I've never played this. How's it compare to Chrono Trigger?

IMO Chrono trigger is the better game. It has a more enjoyable story, better cast, better pacing and I like the combat more.

But Chrono Cross has God tier art direction and music

$19.99

Was expecting it to be higher, I can live with $20.

Is it even bumped to 60 fps?

I guarantee it is not. For most PSX games if you try to increase the FPS it also speeds up the game as the game speed and fps are tied together. Allowing 60 fps would require code changes which Square Enix has never done for any of their ports.

Kind of a joke isn't it?

I'm pretty happy that this is coming out, I'm a bit surprised they are releasing the side game Radical Dreamers but I'm happy to be able to play it, even if it's a text based game.

Graphics are disappointing though for a so called remaster though…

This is nothing more than a cash grab by SE. They'll probably charge $40 for it when it's not even worth $10. They couldn't even be bothered to increase the horrific PS1 framerate or have it be 16:9 widescreen. Obviously a remake with characters at least on par to that of the game's CG models featured in the intro would've been the ideal but I would've settled for a remaster on par with FF Type-0 HD. That was a great remaster:

I'm kind of interested, but I could never get into Chrono Trigger, despite trying many times. This will probably be a digital-only release, so this goes to "maybe bin" for now.

Maybe the Nvidia leaks were true after all.

Trust me, we knew those leaks were real when they described those GTA remasters. So with Crysis 4 being announced, nothing should shock people regarding those leaks going forward. This isn't even "news" to me, this is an inevitable thing based on how exact those leaks were lol

Capcom didn't even announced Resident Evil 4 remake, yet we all pretty much know that is going to be announced soon based on that leak...
Only on switch?

No, also coming to PS4, XONE, PC

I'll be on board if the price is right....they need to be careful here cause I agree with it looking a bit......questionable lol

Anything higher then 39.99 is a no buy, wait for deep sale, buy used etc

Nahhhhh, looking it those screens and seeing 19.99, this is just an expensive HD port lol I don't even know if I can go as far as to say "remaster"...

I'll probably buy it, but later.......and used.

At least they did something to the backgrounds. I wish they'd done more, upscaled them better, retouched the backgrounds, but after looking at "hd" and standar versions on gamespress I'm okay with it. At least it looks better than the PS era FF game remasters. All I'm asking for at this point is that the characters and backgrounds blend better than in previous attempts, and they do. So, yeah. Okayish.

What have they actually remastered?
I guess it is the same like FF VII, VIII, XI, X, XII remasters for PS4 & xbox. Just to get the good game working on current consoles.
We really need more of those 1:1 remasters for good old games on consoles, as now consoles are backwards compatible, so they can live longer than on the previous generations. Just don't forget that there are many, many gamers now that never played such a classic game and as graphics got more and more unimportant in the last generation this is can mean some quick cash for the publishers. But I really hope this won't be a full price title.

If there is no Physical version on the PS4, I'll get it on Steam.
I'm already playing it on my phone via emulators, but an official remaster is a good excuse to finally play it for real.
I would never miss a legal way to play one of the Masterpieces we've never seen in Europe.

I find some of the game's decisions particularly bizarre!
  • I remember this game having some very unconventional results from player choices, pushing you towards being an asshole towards a certain character in order to recruit others, and purposely failing a mission that results in killing a side character in order to get a limit break.
  • I also remember the bizarre leveling system, that make only the next 2-3 battles after each boss give you stats, efficiently blocking any form of grinding beyond for gaining items or gain just a couple of extra +1hp. The leveling is truly pointless in this game.
  • Finally I remember it having a shit ton of characters, despite not doing anything with them. It's not like Suikoden where you are supposed to be building an army and they give you passive abilities in your base and wars while counting towards the true ending. Here it only forces them to make each character look like a side character in the story missions, where to amount for the possibilities they throw one line of dialog each at most.
Lets hope they improve more than the graphics in this remaster, just like they did with Saga Frontier, where they streamlined some mechanics with modern quality of life, and added missing and extra content that was supposed to be left in the cutting room floor.
I'm hopping for:
  • Streamlined leveling.
  • Uses for not-in-your-party characters.
  • Alternative benefits to good choice decisions.
  • Faster combat.
  • Better ability management.
  • Better combat music?!...

I genuinely surprised they put cc on consoles before putting CT on consoles.

Bizarre decision, especially since that CT port is years old at this point.
