Any time you play online against another Nintendo 3DS owner in Mario Kart 7, you can now automatically add them to your Friend List without a friend code.
I'm waiting for my copy to arrive but I didn't know about this! I'll finally get some people on my friend list now.

So the Rivals system that (I think) we first saw in MP: Hunters, basically, but without the distinction?

I'd rather spend the $7 on Xevious or Mario Kart than 100 coins. There are Club Nintendo rewards I can't easily get with money.

Are there Club Nintendo rewards you can't easily get with money?

Quick eBay Search:
Mario Statuette - $40-90
Mario Hit - $75 BIN
Pins - $45 BIN
Ball - $60 BIN
G&W Collection / G&W Collection 2 - $30-50
Zelda Posters - $35
Mario Posters - $35
Rainbow Stylus set - $24
DS Lite bags - $20-30
Mario Galaxy 2 screensaver - $10
Bookmark/folder set - $20-25

I can't think of a whole lot else right now, but it strikes me that you should be able to get 100% of the Club Nintendo merchandise aftermarket if you're willing to pay, so really the emphasis should be on maximizing your cash savings with your points.

Sealed Game&Watch Collection 1 for NDS on ebay ~$30 or 800 coins
8 eShop games $56 or 800 coins

Choice would be easy for me.

I've seen all the nice US prizes online for sale sealed. None of them are rare or hard to get.

I see your point. Buying stuff from eBay is like buying stuff in a Chinatown back alley at this point, though. (But I'm sure there are other more reputable sites to get them from.)

Buying stuff on eBay is incredibly safe because they've rigged the process entirely in favour of buyers. If you claim you receive a counterfeit product, you'll get a refund. If you claim you didn't receive the product at all, you'll get a refund. 100% of the onus is on the seller to demonstrate that they haven't wronged you. *shrugs*

I can understand that, and there are some bad apples.
I choose my sellers very carefully. There's plenty authentic items available.

And like Stump mentions, buyer is king on ebay.

Doc Louis' Punchout is pretty much impossible to obtain.

Nah, it goes for a lot cheaper.
If it's been taken out of the plastic bag, less than $20.

Gotcha, I knew I shouldn't have taken it out, but it looked so lame in the plastic. Meh, prolly better off keeping it anyway.

I just got my pins yesterday they are so cool!

I wonder if the English Mother 3 will be downloadable for coins, or ambassador only? ;-p

Played the first few worlds of Pushmo. Very neat little puzzler, if a little simple so far. 3D is handy in ths game too.

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
So I was musing over the the following while I was waiting for Pullblox to download:

I was short of 1eur so I just added exactly 1eur to my wallet to buy this game. Which makes my eShop wallet entirely optional. I did not have to register a credit card with any merchants either, yet I could store it in my 3ds if I decided to. That makes the eShop funds mechanism as convenient as the AppStore's and as safe as my own wallet where I keep my CC. Thanks, nintendo, for getting it.

There's a trailer for a game called Mutant Mudds that looks pretty cool. Pixel art side scroller with three distinct layers that are basically 3D porn. :p

Yeah, I definitely like this method. And I think the CC info is stored on the console itself (if you choose to keep it there) and not in the eShop account, which would make it hackproof.

Gargoyle's Quest is the best of those three, but yeah, the other two are fun games too worth a play eventually.

Mega Man in Dr. Wily's Revenge does have some issues compared to the later GB Mega Man games -- it's got lots of flicker, fewer levels, etc -- but it makes up for it with solid gameplay and a pretty high challenge level. It is worth playing for sure, but do know that the series gets considerably better starting with the third game -- the second one is pretty poor, and one of the easiest and worst sounding Mega Man games ever, while the fourth and fifth are outstanding games that stand as among the best classic-series Mega Man titles. The third's good too, if not quite the equal of its sequels. But anyway, I do like Mega Man I for GB, despite its flaws. It's no match for III-V, but it's a fun little game that series fans should play, yes.

As I said though, Gargoyle's Quest is the best of those three games. That's a great game, with some of the best graphics of the early lineup of GB games, a good difficulty level (it's challenging, but not TOO hard), plenty to do, and more.

I wonder if we'll now see Gargoyle's Quest II and Demon's Crest on Wii VC... (yes, I know, we won't. Thanks for killing off the Wii VC in the US/Europe, Nintendo.)

Oh, and yes, Nintendo BADLY needs to get into the habit of making demos. Nintendo's demo policy on the Wii was insanely disgraceful; what kind of an idiot thought up a program where demos are only distributed for a few weeks and then get permanently removed from download? It makes absolutely no sense at all, and is extremely counter-intuitive... and of course retail games almost never have demos. Demos are important and useful, Nintendo needs to do them more often.

Oh, and the first post still doesn't have the Fossil Fighters 2 DS demo listed... it should have been added some time ago.
For the record I did play Wily's Revenge when I was a wee lad (on a Super Gameboy on top of that). But cool stuff, will get those 2, but I need someone to sell me on Balloon Kid.

Stump I'm talking to you!

Just going to cross post this here since some of you may not follow the Club Nintendo thread.

Hey guys - sorry if this is incorrect but I don't know what else it could be (maybe views?) but with the latest e-Shop update when you go to each product page there is a number in parenthesis next to it.

Does anyone have confirmation if that number is amount downloaded? If so - is it region specific? Curious to know - here are some of the numbers I see in the US (California) - would love to see if they match up with those in other territories (i.e. EU or JAP).

Zelda Links Awakening - 16,449
Super Mario Land - 9,766
Mario Land 2 - 2,831
Plants Vs Zombies - 5,106
3D Golf - 1,926

That's the amount of times it has been rated 1 - 5 stars, not the amount of downloads.

So, have they started adding QR codes to each individual store listing now? How does that work?

The QR codes aren't up yet except on the Japanese product pages, but you scan it like the web URL QR codes by going into the camera from the Home menu and clicking on the checkered icon, then scanning it in.

It'll say it's an eShop link, ask you if you want to proceed, then open up the eShop and take you directly to the game's listing.

Wait, seeing it in this thread doesn't confirm it, but seeing another site source this thread does?

It's the circle of GAF...

It is interesting that the Club Nintendo site is still down -- there were some odd reports about its update that I'm waiting to confirm...

I was there when it was up, it had a ton of new stuff but basically looked the same. They might be doing a total overhaul though as even increased traffic shouldn't have kept it down for eight hours.
