Nintendo Downloads - July 2012

Zero reason to go digital. Thanks Nintendo!

Some games I would pay full price for digital. Mario Kart I would have if it were available, so I could have it on my system at all times. Animal Crossing when it comes too. A shame there is no cost benefit from going digital.

Been waiting for the 3DS to go digital for awhile now. So much more convenient for me and fits into my lifestyle a lot better. Hopefully there will be deal but i'm not too concerned with it I don't buy a lot of games anyways.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 is now officially priced in the eShop ($39.99)

Good luck with that. Crappy ass account system and high-priced games...really, good luck with that.

Guys, it's as Nintendo said: on the eShop, the game is priced like normally. But if you want deals, you can buy it digitally through retailers which will decide the price indipendently from Nintendo. It's something we've known since the announcement of the new DD policy.

Considering I just preordered NSMB2 for $29.99, I am not buying anything digital for a while, heh.

And Gargoyles Quest is great so far. Definitely a save state abusing game though x_x

Just like retailers decide the price of Nintendo games independently.

Oh, wait.

Oh, wait.
The market decides. Retailers won't drop when Nintendo games can hold value over time (Mario Kart, NSMB, etc), but that's hardly a universal. How many $39.99 copies of Steel Diver are on shelves right now?

Since they will be selling codes at retail I don't see it as a big issue in this case. If you want it day 1 DD, buy at the eshop, otherwise wait for price drops. Although with NSMB2 you might have to wait quite a bit.

I really like that for Steam btw, outside of sales I never buy on Steam, only at (digital) retail.

In cases like that though, it's also because they want to get rid of stock that is taking up space and not going anywhere. Codes don't take up space and when they decide they don't want to stock a game any more they can just rip up the card that they have on display and put it in the bin.

That's a really shitty deal as the game's tied to your system, unlike the card version.

Consequently it's very useful because it's tied to your system unlike the card version. As Iwata put it, it's a up to personal preference you want the portability or you want resellability/sharability.

Also, generally all DD services sell games at full retail at first. So even if you missed the part where they said this I have no idea why you would expect otherwise. Any deals are up to retailers selling codes and it doesn't mean eShop won't have it's own sales on these titles either.

I don't know if it was posted but according to this http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/nintendo-to-share-download-data/099016

Nintendo wants to share digital downloads sales in the future. It will begin with New Super Mario Bros 2 on eShop.

Here's directly the extract from the last Q&A about the matter, from A16

First of all, however, we would like to show the public the number of “New Super Mario Bros. 2” or “Onitore” (temp.) have been sold by download so that those in this industry can make the next move after finding out the consumer behavior toward download versions. When they know the size of the digital distribution market, they might be inclined to accept a certain inventory risk to try the download sales with special features. I am afraid we cannot say anything specific today and we need to carefully manage the download sales with special features because, as I mentioned, they are not a good combination in some aspects. In the distant future, furthermore, it might be a valid business model to deliver physical special features to consumers at home after they have bought something by download. We hope to continue to explore various possibilities.

Retailers want to sell games, if something isn't selling they'll drop prices if that will sell it. Inventory and stock concerns aren't the sole reason for price reductions.

There can even be preorder deals. Like the NSMB2 one at NewEgg. Retailers can decide the price, so. It'd have been nice to have at least a digital price 5 Dollars lower compared to the retail one, but fortunately there are options, and this is the main point of Nintendo's digital + retail policy: having options.

Man I wish they would give DD retail games at least a $5 discount or something. This really kills any incentive for those who can conveniently buy retail. Unfortunately for me I will be paying $40 for DD.

Good luck with that. Crappy ass account system and high-priced games...really, good luck with that.

Not starting console wars here, but do other companies sell DD for less than retain at launch? I know full games for PS3 cost $60 on PSN (I can't comment on Vita as I don't have one) and people regularly trash the prices on Games on Demand on Live. So why does Nintendo get more flack for it?

Seems like Nigoro will reveal La-Mulana's release date tomorrow or something?

I wonder if they're talking about the PC version.

Sorry but we did tease you for a long time, the day finally comes.
One promotional video is being released tomorrow.
There is the information that everyone wants to know.

Originally, LA-MULANA was remade in order to release in overseas, so we don’t yet get to even the starting line.
We have experienced a festivity for celebrating WiiWare version’s release in Japan, but overseas people haven’t experienced it.
We kept waiting you for 3 years, so might be not in place to say, but we are going to jump up, too!

Until the release date, we will post an article everyday!

This. It would come down to what game it is for me to get a digital version. Something that I think I'll want to play everyday, if only for a few minutes would be okay digitally. Animal Crossing is a great title for example to have always on the system do to the nature of the game. However since I carry my 3DS in my bag when I go out, and mostly play it at home, digital isn't going to be a big deal with me outside of 3DS Download games and games that are only digital like Unchained Blades. When given the choice between a physical copy and digitally I'll almost always go physically unless I have a very specific reason not to and it depends on the game, like Animal Crossing.

Edit:

In general thought I'm becoming wary of getting any more downloads from the eShop outside of demos. At least until I'm sure I'll be able to redownload them if my system breaks or is lost. I've already been pretty picky though.

From Nintendo UK's Twitter:
Surprise! Scan this QR Code with your Nintendo ‪#3DS‬ and find out what it is…

It's
the Mario & Sonic Olympic card album they mentioned during the last Nintendo Direct
.

Nice. Excited to try out the Heroes of Ruin demo, since we've been looking for more co-op games to play and everyone seems to be on edge about the title.

Not sure about Sakura Samurai, even for $4.99. Reviews are not terrible, but it just looks a bit bland. Opinions?

If anyone buys:
3D Family Tennis
Akari by Nikoli
. . . please let us know if either comes with a registration survey. A lot of new 3DS downloadable titles haven't, and it would be nice to know if these do. I'm assuming Akari won't, but 3D Family Tennis -might-.

I liked it very much.

I assume that doesn't work on the North American 3DS... or does it?

Doesn't work for Japanese system either. Does anyone have a Japanese QR code or is the
album
not released there?

edit: Oh... it's right on the eShop frontpage! What's this silly teasing with mystery QRs then? Lame.

Pro-tip. Unlock one card with play coins and you will immediately be awarded with another bonus card for collecting 6!

My best starting card was No.42 Sonic. Do we get the same?

I'm never gonna get all of these.
I started with No.1, No.2, No. 10, No. 32 and No. 42 so if you got all those then yes.
