Oh, snap.

Do you know how many games Nintendo is still likely to release on the Virtual Console? The answer: not many.

[NES] Pro Wrestling
[SNS] Pilotwings
[SNS] Super Mario Kart
[SNS] Super Play Action Football
[N64] Donkey Kong 64
[N64] Excitebike 64
[N64] The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
[N64] Mario Party
[N64] Mario Party 2
[N64] Mario Party 3
[N64] Mario Tennis
[N64] Pilotwings 64
[N64] Super Smash Bros.

Everything else is either already released, licensed, Rare-owned, used a peripheral or the SuperFX chip, or is JP-only.

Actually, there might be issues with Donkey Kong 64 seeing how it used the Rare-owned and developed game Jetpac in it.

Version 2.0 is entirely more awesome too.

So you don't have the copy/paste bug? Often when I copy/paste, the whole screen fills with the effect used to denote the copied area (dotted bg).

It's rendered copy paste completely unusable to me, because it happens about 40% of the time.

yeah man I haven;t come across it yet, or perhaps I have and don't know what I'm doing. :lol

Silent Dreams, a recently founded German studio, plans to announce a WiiWare SRPG in a few weeks. The company is led by some former Ascaron and Piranha Bytes guys, including the Gothic 1 - 3 lead programmer.

I really don't see why this would be an issue at all. We've now seen NES games that use MMC chips, SNES games that use the SA-1 and DSP chips, and N64 games that require the Expansion Pak. I don't think the SuperFX chip is going to be that big of a hurdle, and I'd be highly surprised if we don't eventually see StarFox and Yoshi's Island show up on the VC.

Nintendo published quite a few other N64 games and Starcraft 64 was one of them. Plus didn't Super Mario RPG use a special chip and that's already on the VC.

I would love the 64DD games to make it out here as well.

[N64] Command & Conquer (!!)

Cool, sounds interesting. There's nothing I really want from Wiiware at the moment, obviously aside from MM9, the only Wiiware game I've gotten so far.

They will probably put out Super FX chipped games at some point but right now it's not on the table and we shouldn't consider them which is the point of Cheesemeister's list. Also Nintendo doesn't have any rights to re-release Starcraft 64. At least the Activision portion of Activison-Blizzard is onboard with VC though so it's not a complete longshot but it won't happen anytime in the foreseeable future.

NINTENDO DOWNLOAD: DO THE MATH - ANIMAL APPS, TOPPLING TOWERS AND HUNGRY PENGUINS

May 4, 2009

Fans of the popular Animal Crossing™ series can enjoy a pair of downloadable—and practical—debuts this week via the Nintendo DSiWare™ service. Whether you're telling time or doing arithmetic, these handy applications will give your daily number-crunching a critter-friendly boost. A new WiiWare™ game also takes a fun peek into the animal kingdom, while the latest Virtual Console™ release sends players underwater for classic Commodore 64 action.

Nintendo DSiWare

Animal Crossing Calculator (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 Nintendo DSi Points™): Need to figure out what you owe Tom Nook or the amount in your savings account? Animal Crossing Calculator features the full functionality of a traditional calculator, including a Memory key and the ability to display up to 13 digits, adding a layer of atmosphere unique to Animal Crossing. Use the Unit Converter to turn one unit of measure into another (such as length, weight, volume and age), or track the history of calculations you've performed. Listen to the Animalese pronunciation of numbers when you press them, and watch for a favorite Animal Crossing character to appear when your result meets certain criteria. Get ready for an inventive and practical way to experience the charm of Animal Crossing.

Animal Crossing Clock (Nintendo, 1 player, 200 Nintendo DSi Points): Enjoy the atmosphere of Animal Crossing in a whole new way with Animal Crossing Clock. Select from either an analog or digital clock and set up to three alarms (with snooze functionality for those who need it). Make your own Town Tune or use sounds created in Nintendo DSi™ Sound, then assign them to the alarms you've set. Use the system's internal clock or offset the time however you like. Then sit back and watch as different characters from Animal Crossing appear and the color of the sky changes as time passes. You'll never miss an important appointment with one of your Animal Crossing friends again.

WiiWare

Penguins & Friends - Hey! That's My Fish! (Gammick Entertainment, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone, 800 Wii Points™): The penguins are hungry and need your help. Catch all the fish you can before someone steals them from you. Strategy is fundamental in this exciting game. Keep moving ahead of the other penguins so you don't get trapped, and try to get to the ice floes that hold more fish. One to four players can play Penguins & Friends at the same time, provided they can handle the polar cold. The board is made up of ice blocks with a set number of fish under them. The ice blocks are hexagonal and form a structure like a beehive. The starting position of the ice blocks can change, creating different game boards.

Virtual Console

Tower Toppler™ (Commodore 64, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Weird things are happening on Planet Nebulus. Someone or something has begun building huge towers on the sea floor without a construction license. Your mission is to ascend each of the eight cylindrical towers, passing various obstacles along the way, and to trigger the tower's destruction mechanism to demolish the evil threat. Praised upon its original 1987 release for its graphical innovation, this is considered to be the most outstanding game from Hewson. Don't miss out on this classic favorite.

Nintendo adds new titles to the Nintendo DSi Shop and the Wii™ Shop Channel at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Mondays. Users with broadband Internet access can redeem Wii Points or Nintendo DSi Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel. Nintendo DSi Points can be purchased in the Nintendo DSi Shop. A Nintendo Points Card™ can be purchased at retail locations. All points from one Nintendo Points Card must be redeemed in either the Nintendo DSi Shop or the Wii Shop Channel. They are not transferable and cannot be divided between the two systems.

Remember that both Wii and Nintendo DSi feature parental controls that let adults manage the content their children can access. For more information about this and other features, visit Wii.com or NintendoDSi.com.

Oh, big NST time today...great that they made those clocks and calculators.

@OP
PictureBook Games: A Pop-Up Adventure is a retail game, Nintendo-published WiiWare games are not listed on the USK website. In addition, it will be released in August.

Well look on the bright side, it's still infinately better than what Japan gets this week. That said, I'd hate to have high expectations about now.

Thanks, Shiggy. I'll pull it from the list. Is it likely to be the same WiiWare game Japan saw a few weeks back, just pushed to disc (kinda like Wii Chess in reverse)?

Also, Penguins & Friends - Hey! That's My Fish! is probably one of the more ridiculous titles to ever grace WiiWare, which is saying something.

holy shit... this is the worst update ever. ever.

NOA: Here's a storage solution for Wii.
Us: HOORAY!!
NOA: Now go use it to buy existing games on the service.
Us: WTF??!?!??
NOA: Fine, you don't want to buy existing games? We'll give you new games to "buy".

I mean seriously, did they hire a monkey to smash old carts with a bone and try to best guess the resulting words in the debris to try and figure out what to release every week?

It's bad enough that we don't get good games on DSiWare, but now we're not even getting games. We have to settle for a calculator and a clock.

I'm a sucker for Animal Crossing, so I'll be buying both of them right at noon.

The Calculator is really shit, I'd wait for the Mario one - which is less shit.

Is it the Mario calculator or the clock that lets you collect coins in the background or something?

With DSiWare games like this there are VERY few reasons to even buy a DSi for $200. :|

Like I said before, if DSiWare is the only reason why you're buying, the DSi will NEVER be a better value. It is structurally impossible for DSiWare to provide equivalent value to the App Store. If DSiWare is the only reason you're onboard, buy an 8 gig iPod Touch and you will be much happier.

Yep and the Animal Crossing one plays a tune on the hour, which can edit just like in the game.

Outside Japan so far.

Jesus, months after announcement and still not a single VC Arcade addition after the launch titles? Stop being such goddamn sucklords, NOA.

Honestly, what other reasons are there for you to buy one? A slight screen size difference and two 0.3MP cameras?

Please don't drag that shit into here, there is a thread for that already.

You ppl are acting as if there will never be good software avaiable on dsiware - come on now, at least wait till e3 - the userbase is kinda limited right now, wii ware also had a rogh start with an far bigger userbase from the get go, we will just have to wait a bit....

just because it isn`t the appstore it`ll suck forever ?

It's really odd that they decided to sell the calculators but released the browser and ugoku memo for free. They should have kept those as freeware.
