ok. those do not look like DS graphics.

O_o

So much noise about the new Square games, but.. what about the 2 new Brain training games?? They're gonna be huge too :lol

Everyone acts so surprised to see the DS churning out good 3D. Is it that surprising?

We are entering into the DS' second generation. We should all know by now that as generations progress, games often look and sometimes even play better than their predecessors.

Secondly, the DS, while not exactly an N64, is actually better than one in some respects. Mario 64 DS has much better models of Mario and Bowser than the N64 incarnation, AND, were we not all entertained by Zelda OOT? The DS should at least be capable of this and more - as we are witnessing today.

(note: FF III looks absolutely amazing!)

just when I thought the PSP made some noise at TGS, Nintendo comes in for the kill with this conference. wow just wow what a day.

I still don't get it.

What conference is this, anyway?

Where is it?

I didn't even know there was one announced for today.

I suppose I have no choice but to get one one of these days. Hopefully a re-design will be announced sometime soon.

Ok, just got home. I'm REALLY trying to calm down right now. A LOT of these games look absolutely UNBELIEVABLE. Do we have direct feed captures of FF3 DS yet? FUCK YES!

Was the SNK card battle game on the scene too?

Can't...stop...smiling! :D

Just randomly throwing this in, but I've been playing Fire Emblem : SS and switching between my GBA SP and DS. I gotta say, when I take it out of the SP after some extended play and slot it into the DS, the DS feels absolutely luxurious to hold, the width of your hands apart, the size of it in your hands etc just feels really satisfying.

Don't know why everyone is complaining, I think the coloured DS are very nice pieces of kit and have no idea how they would re-design it to make it better. Only thing is maybe make the top half of the clam slimmer as it is kinda chunky.

Last week I decided that I would get rid of my PSP after long deliberations. Today has been the ultimate vindication of this decision. I just don't see anything on the horizon that makes it worth keeping. Also, I drive everywhere so most of my portable playing takes place at home.

The DS already had a stunning lineup for this fall, but looking forward to 2006 it is really no contest at all. With the DS, 360, PS3, Rev and some current gen support to invest in, PSP is really the odd man out of the equation. I don't want to derail this thread, but most of the PSP stuff is unoriginal schlock that is better played on my ps2 or other consoles.

I gave you a chance PSP, and though I will miss Lumines, I can definitely live without you. On Saturday, your trade in will pay for Mario and Luigi 2, Animal Crossing DS, and Mario Kart DS preorders, and my copy of Castlevania. Goodbye PSP, maybe a redesign and a price drop in 2007 will reunite us.

So long old (new) friend!

You're just lucky then. My right hand, thumb area especially, starts to really hurt after about 30-60 minutes (GBA games/DS games) and the pain doesn't subside for almost 48 hours, sometimes more. I suspect I'm at the worst end of the scale, but there are lots of people having problems.

I've never had any pain from any other handheld or controller in my life.

Good anouncements all around. But now with online I wish they would reconsider the DS zelda as a 4 sworrds game ;)

Mario kart should be fun, can;t wait to pwn each and every one of you.

As I said when the PSP was anounced, gamers win. I actually hope the market finds niches to support both nintendo's and sony's handhelds because honestly this has brought out the best in nintendo and I don't think we would have seen it otherwise.

Hope they stay aggresive for the revolution, and gamers will win again.

People, stop with the DS redesign crap.

It is NOT happening ANY time soon. At the earliest, next fall, if it happens at all. It's selling too good right now for them to do a random redesign.

It isn't really uncomfortable anyway. I don't get the complaints. I can see people complaining about the ridges on the corners, but that's about it.

Restarting your CPU everyday isn't good on the computer.

LOL.

And also, you should leave your consoles on all the time, and your DS, and your gameboy, and your PSP, and your cell phone (but not in the fucking movie theatre).

Ahh nice. I will be buying this game.

The same goes for Dynasty Warriors DS.

If they screw us over by not releasing MV2 here like they did with the first magical vacations, i will be pissed.

It is if you have smallish fingers and can't comfortably hold it in your hands and touch the screen at the same time. That's why i'm wishing for a redesign.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH you tap the touch screen to dribble the flick it to pass. HAHAHAHA so classic. oh man.
This sounds fantastic. I know there's touchscreen haters out there, but if they leave out the d-pad alternative, it forces them to make a playable game with this control method. I really hope they pull it off, because that sounds fun as hell.

*tap* *tap* *tap* He shoots... *flick* HE SCORES!!!! *cheer*

See, I heard the opposite before: that people with big hands hates the small buttons. But I never had that problem.

I see what you mean though, but how would they fix that? It could only get a little smaller I think. And redesigns are usually big changes: see SP and Micro. They most likely don't see a reason to make it a little smaller and skinnier. They probably can't even do that as much as it should be for people who have trouble with it like you.

But at least for touch screen-only games you can put it on a surface and play it like that. I do that all the time just for the hell of it.

A re-design is pretty much guaranteed. It's going to sell like crazy. And we're talking about Nintendo here.

My guess - spring 2006 we'll see a price cut on the DS to $99. Around late summer/early fall, when the majority who were on the fence got a DS after the cut, they reveal the new design and launch world wide fall 2006 at $149 while still continuing old one.

You'll have two choices then - buy the old DS for a cheap price or the new (sexy ipod looking?) design for $149. Many people will re-buy it and others like me will get one for the first time with a slew of awesome games. My plan is to just buy one next-gen console (rev or ps3) fall 2006 and the other one later, and this is where the DS comes in. :)

Quit looking ahead in Nintendo's playbook ;P

I think that sounds about right

Any SD4 news?
Only thing I have so far is that the environments are full 3D (in that they are multi-layer, not just pseudo 3D like FFXI) and they are using Havok for physics. I should really scan the Famitsu interview for more info...

Well, Ive been really impressed by all of this, really impressed. DS already had a good library but now its looking even better. Ive yet to buy a DS, but this has convinced me.

Yes, you should... ;)

Thanks! :D

eh.

Whatevers!

The DS has had a "bright future" since before launch when tons of games were announced for it. And look where it is now. -_-; I can't get excited over more announced games that won't be out for another year or longer when stuff announced last year isn't even out.

With that in mind, I wonder if Square Enix will now bring FFXI to Revolution. They've already got Crystal Chronicles in the works, and I'm sure the no-fee Wifi Connection was the main factor in keeping SE from making an announcement. The 360 version sure as hell isn't going to do much in Japan.
Well, there's still the issue of a hard drive.

... I wonder if I'll be able to steal my neighbors internet with it.

Also, I wonder what speeds will be necessary. DS isn't that graphic heavy or anything... think if worst came to worst I could get away with 56k?

I could always just buy a dongle and use it on public computers.
Graphics don't have much an impact on such things; it's not like one player has to send fully polygon data to the others. What matters is how much game data must be shared, and how fast it must get there and back to play reasonably well. Requirements should vary by game.

some of the ds exuberance around here does seem a little feigned! i mean, this time last year you wouldn't be tripping over each other to buy the game about the anime lawyer who points at people...
Pfffft. This time last year nobody was tripping over themselves to provide the experience to those who don't read Japanese.

please lets us know if you get more info, havok physics hmm. well lets see. it will be online mutiplayer I pray this comes out for the rev, i see this game as a rev and ps3 release not 360, because 360 will not move that many units in japan.. please more info if you can :) :)

But a bunch of those games are starting to come out as we speak and have been since the end of August: Nintendogs, Advance Wars, Lost in Blue, Castlevania, Trauma Center, Trace Memory, Ultimate Spider-Man (which, I swear to God, is actually pretty fun).

And in the next TWO months: Phoenix Wright, Metroid Prime Pinball, Mario Kart DS, Mario & Luigi 2, Viewtiful Joe, Animal Crossing, Mega Man BN5, Guilty Gear, and lesser games to be excited about, but still ones that look good like Sims 2, Dig Dug, Ultimate Card Games, Bust-A-Move, Crash Racing, Snowboard Kids, Tony Hawk, Black & White, Electroplankton, Burnout Legends...

Granted, you obviously wouldn't be excited in every one of those, and a couple might end up being blah games, but overall that's a very nice lineup of games I think.

Nintendogs - Non-game
Advance Wars - A good'un.
Lost in Blue - mediocre
Castlevania - Metroidvania
Trauma Center - ? Could be good.. or end up mediocre like LiB & TM and everything else I was looking forward to.
Trace Memory - mediocre
Ultimate Spider-Man - no interest

And in the next TWO months:

Phoenix Wright - bargain bin it.
Metroid Prime Pinball - you'd think people would've learned after Mario Pinball..
Mario Kart DS - got the defintive Mario Kart on GBA
Mario & Luigi 2 - no interest
Viewtiful Joe - could be good~or cramped
Animal Crossing - got definative version on GC, still play daily
Mega Man BN5 - GBA rehash time!
Guilty Gear - GGX2 is enough for me this gen
Sims 2 - :lol
Dig Dug - could be good or a bastardization of a classic. needs more info
Ultimate Card Games - no interest
Bust-A-Move - rehash to the extreme
Crash Racing - ...
Snowboard Kids - no interest
Tony Hawk - Sk8land was it? Not wasteland? Easy. Free. Safe.
Black & White - looked foward to it on the DC..it never came... years later on an inferior system why would I want it?
Electroplankton - Non-game
Burnout Legends - no need for another racing game

Normally I like ta be positive and all that but enoughs enough. 10 months and a million promised games later and NOA is screwing me out of the good DS colors and more importantly the games still aren't here. I'm tired of stuff being on the horizon. -_-;; I figured I'd have like around 6 DS games stockpiled by the time I got one by the holiday season. Instead I've got 3 and one is an "eh may as well give it a try" purchase (Kirbyyyyy).

Also you left out Sonic Rush. You evil evil man.

Oh my God hellooooooooooooo. How can Mario Kart on GBA and Animal Crossing on GC be the definitive versions when they're not even online!?!?! Metroid Prime Pinball is looking good, FYI. And Mario & Luigi 2 looks nice, too. I'm not even going to comment on the other games you've listed.

If you're not happy with the upcoming / announched games for DS, you will never be. just sell the damn thing if you can't find any games for it that you like.

Over at 1up glub glub made a post in the egm flavored forums that has all scrrens for the new games and then some.

The only thing that matters to me is the news that Zelda on the Ds will have online Multiplayer :lol

Nintendo just hadokenned sony :lol
