What was the best looking game of the conference?

Edit: How about most "Next Gen" looking game?

Either Watch Dogs or Last of Us.

Next gen looking? Star Wars 1313

I was also thinking that the MTV2 and Spike execs have gotta be fuming about this at least a bit, because surely their viewers were changing the channel in droves at some point. I know I just tuned out and switched over to GAF during almost all of the last 20-30min, only occasionally switching my browser tab over to see if anything had changed.

Gotta find the original guy who put it together.

( He has the source files and I don't know animation ).

I dunno if this makes it easier or harder but here's the actual entire sketch on Youtube if you want to just start from scratch and that way you could potentiallly also make it even longer with some extra footage to exploit for further spoofing of the events. (part where he's driving with the teenagers starts at 1 minute):

That's exactly how I feel. Last year's E3 showed probably twice as much as this year, at least. I want to make a list of all of the things Nintendo didn't talk about that they should have. Ugh.

The only thing shown at this E3 worth a damn is Watch Dogs. That's it. Everything else is just so tired or creepy in some fashion or... they get that this is supposed to be an event, right? Like, something we get excited about? Fucking gamer Christmas?!

They get that, don't they? MS, I get holding back; Sony's lack of Vita was bizarre and really foreshadowing; Nintendo... yeah, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking. They should have murdered the other two this year - and I'm sitting here wondering which conference bored me the most.

Man, Nintendo is never going to top E3 2004. Nintendo DS, last minute Zelda megaton. Such good times.

I watch this each E3 hoping for something similar to happen each year.

Thing is, Nintendo's E3 04 wasn't even that good. It's just remembered fondly due to Zelda. Wasn't that the year they devoted all that time to Pacman Vs.?

E3 06 was probably their best moment, all things considered.

Where is the retro game? Personally even nintendos last year e3 was a lot better then this one with the garden demo which was quite more interesting then what they showed today. Although im happy with p-100, trine and lego I still don't get the absence of more first party games.
How long until the developer round table?

Watch Dogs seemed like the most "next gen" game to me. Looks like a huge open world city that is very detailed. Lighting an animations look great. And the way you can manipulate the world around you has some cool gameplay possibilities.

This conference really made me go from "probably gonna get a Wii U" to "I need more information before blindly getting it". I don't understand why they wouldn't have shown a true AAA Nintendo game for launch and also better third party support. I thought there was no way Nintendo was going to have a bad conference after showing Pikmin 3, but I was proven wrong. I love Nintendo, but I need WAY more information about the Wii U before I consider it at this point.

I'm calling it 'next gen' because it seemed to be interacting with things in a different way, doing things that were at least different from what we've seen before. The graphics are pretty and all, but that's not what constitutes next gen to me. It's more of a feeling where you go, "Okay. THAT I have never seen before."

No, I don't think there's been a proper announcement (besides Pikmin teases) since Brawl. But with literally zero first-party non-launch games announced, I'm hoping for more. :/

OoT3D was revealed with the intro video at a roundtable. I don't remember what was last year's surprise. Maybe pikmin to wii u was it?

I liked it better than Microsoft and Sony's presentations.

A lot of humor from Reggie. Solid first party lineup for WiiU. Nintendo never had a problem with that.

Games I would like to play:
-Project P-100
-New Super Mario Bros. U
-ZombiU
-LEGO City Undercover
-Wii FitU
-Pikmin 3
-Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
-SiNG (kinda like it a little)
-Scribblenauts Unlimited
-Batman: Arkham City-Armored Edition
-Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

I'm just kinda thrown off by the packaging when buying the WiiU.

Will it come with the WiiU, WiiU controller, and the WiiMote & Nunchuck?

Overall I give Nintendo E3 conference a:

Grade: B

I wish my professors back in college graded as easily as you do

Were there surprises last year? I can't remember.

Last I remember was the horrible '08 presser. Baffled journalists kept asking "really? That's it?" To Miyamoto, who said "well, we're making Pikmin...".

I don't think the roundtable discussions customarily have surprises.

I really believe if they had shown the Retro game instead of the fireworks, most of you would feel completely different about the conference. I know I would.

I understand trying to show only launch related games, but that's ridiculous not to give us at least one more game to look forward to. We've know about this game for some time now, it's been in production for quite a while, why not show it to us?

Nothing big enough to show? Why do I get the feeling Nintendo are rushing into this? I am in the same boat now...really need more info but the games are doing nothing for me.

No that was 2003. I'll never forget when Miyamoto showed off Pac Man vs and after just dead silence and he asks "Why aren't they clapping?" It was that year's "Where's the love?" (dumb NOA guy from this year)

edit: It also was the very moment that sparked this infamous image of some very disinterested IGN editors:

Oh right. Well Mario Kart, Paper Mario, Star Fox, etc. were all announced at 2010's equivalent of Iwata staring at bananas.

There weren't any surprises at the roundtable last year.

i think some of these nintendo fans is secretly sony/MS fans trolling a base. lol

anyway, shit press conference, promising future.

Having a hard time believing that some of the nintendo games is not gonna sell millions by next year. Whatever guys, smash bros and other stuff is coming.. We all know that.

Flies came out to feast today. remind me of the revolution name change to wii. lol

haters gonna hate.

Issue is how do you do a LOD switch to high res textures without noticeable pop-in? When you zoom in Pikmin it happens very fast.

Yeah I suppose though with 1.5GB-2GB of memory I'd still expect better given time/effort.

Also is that image actually taken from a zoomed in camera angle of the game? It looks to me more like someone's cut a piece of the ground out and then blown it up as I don't remember it looking that bad during the conference. I could very well be wrong as I can't find any zoomed in images of the game online at the moment.

They stealth showed it on the Wi Fit section. The girl put her pedometer onto it to log the calories...hence why the guy was still working out while she watched the TV...

After show Iwata showed the pedometer in question. All the standard tech of a modern one so, works out distance, calories, altitude...

So yeah NFC so far is a Wii Fit peripheral (that'll probably be bundled with Wii Fit U). Standard course to join the GBA > Gamecube link cable, ROB and DK Bongos...

Uh, its going to be used with Rayman Legends with the figures. Derp.

Either Watch Dogs or Last of Us.

I meant Wii U games. This is the Nintendo conference thread. I missed the conference and was wondering what Nintendo demonstrated that screamed "Next Gen" Nintendo.

From what I see it looks like this isn't going to be the conference I was hoping for. :(

Oh well, at least we have the 3DS conference?

:(

I am a fan of Nintendo and Sony. I generally dislike MS. That said, both Nintendo and Sony botched their opportunities this E3. I'll go so far as to say that they have each foreshadowed significant reasons to be concerned for both of them. And that's remarkable considering MS basically sat on its ass and played with its thumbs for an hour.

So Ace if you are reading this- I told you Mario would be there at launch.

Well... if the Retro game truly looked awesome and next-geny I agree. But there is still the huge issue of third party support. I am shocked that we are only hearing about stuff that was announced a year ago, for the most part.

On a side-note, I bet NOBODY won that Bingo contest. I checked 12/75. :lol

If Nintendo ever needed a SpaceWorld, it is this year.

Oh arg. Sorry. Next-gen from Nintendo?

Pikmin 3 looked nice but that was the best thing shown. 3rd Party stuff looked no better but its tough to judge from the show footage.

Well Sony did have a brilliant new game with Last of Us, so I think they probably won for me. I think Nintendo conference had to be the worst because expectations were so high and they didn't deliver at all.

No way man, Im a huge fanboy and this conference sucked hard. As for the future, based on what they showed, looks like shit as well. Of course they can show stuff down the line but as of now they are not providing any compelling reason to buy the Wii U.

The Wii U name is perfect because it really feels like the Wii all over again. I can't believe that after the 3ds launch they would pull this. What is really disturbing is that Nintendo thinks they hit it out the park. Why else would they schedule 3 conferences?!?!

So...at this point can we say that maybe Satterfield was trolling us a bit when he said that the Wii U launch lineup was "Surprisingly good"?

Depends. He might have been legitimately surprised. Maybe he expected it to be even worse.

*shrugs* I mean, Last of Us looks good. Kind of like a combination Uncharted and Ico. But I'm not a tremendous fan of the Uncharted titles, so all I can amount at the moment is begrudging respect. Frankly, the only company that I feel came out ahead after its conference was Ubisoft. Those fuckers did it right.

Two Wii U gamepads? :O

I was really hoping for that, at least we have some games and good news on the hardware front.

Come on Nintendo, this was your big shot... and you blew it along with Sony and Microsoft.

:(

I notice Idea Man has been very quiet since the E3 show...

You are 100% right, dude. E3 2004 was absolutely incredible, and no other Nintendo conference matches that kind of excitement. I still watch the Nintendo 2004 E3 conference every once and a while - it's too good and really fills my gaming heart to the top.

So Ace if you are reading this- I told you Mario would be there at launch.

You and me both, brother. You and me both.

Man, he gave me the hardest time about that.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this happened.

How do you launch a console with no games?

How do you spend a section of your conference talking about a game that released last year on everyone else's console?

How do you take a year of absolute silence to prepare for a big rereveal after the disappointing initial announcement, and then show the exact same things you showed last year? Especially when studios like Retro and Monolith have surely been working on something for 2 years now.

How do you put absolutely no effort into combatting the rumors that your system is severely underpowered? Just one stage demo of a graphically impressive, Wii U exclusive game. That's it. That's all you needed to do.

The entire thing is just mind-boggling. They had all the cards in their hands. They could've just shown off three good, new announcements and been declared the indisputable winners of E3. I'm sure they have them! I'm sure their studios are working on Wii U games, and they're not all like Nintendoland and Wii Fit U!

Next-gen needs to come quickly. All 3 failing to utterly impress seems to be a sign that people are getting tired of the same old military shooters, sports games and Mario over and over.
