Nintendo E3 plans detailed

Hi guys, I know this thread is not the place to ask questions but I don't want to make a thread so I hope this won't derail the thread much.
I plan to buy 3DS and maybe Switch later this year so I can get into Nintendo ecosystem, I missed a lot Nintendo games so I probably want to buy many games.
1. Which 3DS should I buy? The new 3DS in July or new 3DS XL?
2. I plan to go full digital with 3DS so which memory card is the best choice?
3. All eShop games I buy will link to Nintendo account or the 3DS? This confuse me a lot since I read some threads years ago about Nintendo account system
4. Are DS games available on eShop? I try to find 3 Castlevania on eShop web broswer but I don't if they're available on it.
5. Can you recommend me some 3DS games? Now I can only think about DQ VIII

Why do you want to buy a system at the end it's life if you don't know any games you want on it ?

There's an ARMs tournament and the revealed all the characters. Don't think they're going to spend much if any time in the actual show

Yeah I think the reason they gave ARMS It's own dedicated Direct was so that they could focus on other things at their E3 presentation.

They can show lots of ARMS on the Treehouse streams.

I believe so, or you can do a system transfer which I think should move everything over (never tried it honestly).

Thank you. I decided to wait til July to get new 2DS to save for more games like you said. Some games I want to play like Super Smash Bros and Super Mario Maker but I predict that they'll be ported to Switch later so I will hold back on these games

Why do you want to buy a system at the end it's life if you don't know any games you want on it ?

I'm only PS gamer for many years so I don't follow much Nintendo news. Just recently I want to play DQ VIII since I haven't finished original one

The end of a system's life is the best time to buy it, though? You have the entire library at your disposal, with all DLC and such already released.

They're also still selling Mario Kart 7, but you don't see Nintendo trying to update that game.

The difference is that Mario Kart 7 and Mario Kart 8 are actually completely separate games from each other, while Smash Wii U and 3DS were intended to be practically the same game with the same core gameplay and roster and could also connect to each other, to let people transfer over their Mii Fighters and custom movesets from 3DS to Wii U and vice versa. It's just all the extra fluff like trophies, modes and stages that were platform exclusive.

Remember the whole reason we lost the Ice Climbers in the first place was because they couldn't work on 3DS and Sakurai was hellbent on the two versions having the same exact roster.

I completely disagree with Nintendo giving a care about Smash 3DS.

I fully expect Smash port and it will have Ice Climbers as a new character. They got systems to sell not worry about what the 3DS can't get.

Would be kinda curious to see the meltdowns that would occur if Smash 4 Deluxe doesn't end up happening, considering everyone here seems to be expecting it...

I know I'd be annoyed. I wanna play smash now, not wait years for a new game.

I tried going back to the 3ds one and it's not the same

I actually am more thinking the Smash for Switch won't be considered a port of Smash 4, but rather Smash 5, though built with Smash 4 as a baseline. The longer it takes before we hear an announcement the more I assume it won't be considered a port.

I would love if its consider closer to a Smash 5 meaning we get new characters (given either way) and new single player modes like Adventure Mode or the story mode from Brawl.

Are people forgetting the old job postings that said they were hiring for Smash 6?

Smash 3DS was 4, Wii U was 5, Switch will be 6.

It'd be stupid if them to not use the base of what they have and not just add more characters and stages. Sakurai us even said it's getting harder now because they've used a lot of the obvious and demanded characters.

I really truly hope they will add more single player modes. I absolutely loved the Subspace Emissary.

I actually did forget about that job listing! But yeah I totally agree that a new Smash is more likely than a port of 4 (4/5, whatever).

I just really want Smash on the system soon, port or not.

That's why I feel like they've held out on announcing it. They could've announced it in January, but they have bigger plans for Smash compared to MK8DX.

I don't know, I think Sakurai is just done with Smash 4. Just look at the ending of the final Smash presentation and the way he tallies up the total amount of characters, stages and what not at the end, and the way he does a big eulogy on the game's development and how the whole thing literally ends with a bang with fireworks. It seemed like the big cap off to the entire Smash 4 project.

I mean, I suppose it just all depends if Nintendo really is willing to continue working on Smash 4 without Sakurai's lead. Now, if we were talking about a brand new Smash game (as Skittzo0413 mentioned), then yeah, I could see them doing it without Sakurai. But if its an enhanced port like MK8D, then I don't see it. Sakurai's directed Smash 4 for years and years and it'd be kinda weird to get a different director in his place to continue it, and I don't see Sakurai turning around and saying "haha, just kidding guys, here's some more content" after basically declaring the game done and over with back in the aforementioned presentation.

I feel like its the opposite. If theyre making a new smash they definitely want sakurai at the helm, if its a port they can have someone else do it

The thing is with Sakurai is his general philosophy is approaching every single project as if it was the last. He said he made Melee with the mindset it was the last Smash Bros. game. He said he made Brawl with the mindset it was the last Smash game. He did the same with SSB4, pre-DLC. The decision to even do DLC was made very late.

So the thing at the end of Sakurai's video is honestly pretty consistent with how he has always been. If he ever did an update of SSB4, it wouldn't be contradicting anything. He made SSB for Wii U and 3DS by giving his all without thinking of what came next, and did the same with the DLC. If he decides to revisit that by putting in more stuff, then he'd bring in that same mentality. Sakurai thinks about his work purely in the now, without considering what any possible sequel or followup would look like.

Bear with me that this argument assumes SSB Deluxe is a real thing: I think it's also possible that the scope of the port has changed over time.

When Serkan Toto first reported on it, he said it would be a launch window game. Back when Switch was planned for November, it made sense - have SSB either at launch or in Q1 to help fill out the schedule and beef up the lineup. Of course, the Switch ended up launching in March, and so things worked out that they didn't need it that close.

All right, so now Laura Kate Dale suggests it's coming in the first 6 months, to tie in with the amiibos. Sounds good, SSB would be good for the summer drought. Well, turns out we are getting the amiibos in the first 6 months, and just the amiibos. What's happening? Maybe the Switch port is bigger and taking longer than they originally planned, and they're tired of holding back the amiibos until whenever it's done. Maybe Nintendo underestimated just how successful and solid the Switch's first few months were looking, and now they realize they can afford to spend more time on it (e.g. Splatoon 2 and ARMS probably wouldn't have been done by launch window, so an SSB port would have covered for them, but now there's no need since they're so close to begin with). Maybe they recognize the acclaim Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has received for adding new elements that both answer fan demands, and give us little things we never knew we wanted. I don't know but at the end of the day I'm sure Nintendo and Sakurai are people who emphasize taking pride in their work and know that a straight port of SSB4 sounds far less exciting than a port that does something new. "Do it right or don't do it at all" is another philosophy that Sakurai has always seemed to have. That's why he chose to make Brawl instead of having them just slap online play onto Melee.

And even regarding Sakurai, he remarked that he found working on the DLC for SSB4 enjoyable because the overall workload to deal with was lighter. Kosuke Yabuki didn't direct MK8 Deluxe, and while obviously he's much less hands-on control freak than Sakurai, that suggests to me that he doesn't necessarily need to be involved in the pure porting side of the process; that can be left up to Bamco's coders while he oversees potential new content.

This ended up being a big stream-of-conscious thing but this is kind of what I've been thinking. I don't want to rule out the idea that SSB for Switch ends up being a straight port, but at this point in time I don't think we're resigned to that being anything other than the worst-case scenario.

Those are all good points. Ultimately, nothing is impossible, but sometimes I wonder if everyone constantly chanting "Pokemon Stars and Smash for Switch!" is actually going to amount to something, or if it turns out that it was all in our heads.

I suppose religiously believing in everything Laura Kate Dale said kinda disillusioned me, lol.

Tbf nobody is talking about LKD. Pokémon Stars is MCV and Eurogamer. Smash is Serkan Toto. Maybe someone else mentioned Smash, but I can't remember.

Basically the way I see it, the longer into the Switch's lifetime we get before Smash is announced, the less "acceptable" it is to just be a port, or even enhanced port. So if it's not at this E3 which is very possible, then I'm betting it will be a brand new entry, possibly built from Smash4/5 as a base.

Nintendo really has not made a habit of doing recent ports, though that could change with the success of MK8D.

I'd honestly forget everything LKD said about the post launch. Was on point HW, but I think that SW side is iffy.

Emily said the she won't be doing anymore leaks, and I admire her for that. She seems to be on the pulse so to speak, so if she keeps quiet, we might actually have some surprises for us!

That WSJ guy and Dr. Toto and Eurogamer are the loose cannons in this, they seem to have right info about lots of things and if all of them says something about something, I'd listen. Though, if only one of them says something, I want to see receipts.

I really, really hope that someone doesn't leak Nintendo's E3 plans AND that we got some megaton information.

These posts nail it. Plus if TPC did choose to save Stars for E3, it'd probably boost the odds of Eurogamer being right about it being Switch-only if it'll be at the Nintendo Spotlight.

And Dark Cloud, I recall that it was Source Gaming who also said Smash 4 Deluxe & Melee on VC. I believe they also called the lack of Miiverse on the Switch.

I think part of the issue with LKD is she had some sources who were very accurate and actually worked for Nintendo/Ubisoft, but she also had a lot of sources she didn't vet as thoroughly or said things that weren't corroborated by others. She did a breakdown after-the-fact which seems to show how things all went down source-by-source. For the most part, the things she said sourced from Nintendo proper were accurate, but there were cases of plans changing or not being part of the reveal event (e.g. Mario + Rabbids and Splatoon bundle are real, but not at launch, the amiibos came in the first 6 months but not Smash, there allegedly was inner drama as to whether Zelda or Mario should be at launch, etc)...

All the stuff that turned out totally false though, no strings attached, was the stuff that came from weaker or single sources. I think she was just really green at all this and didn't do the best job at vetting everything and being more open as to where everything was coming from.

But yeah, not to make this thread about her or anything.

Regarding Smash for Switch, I think it's IntelliHeath who always says hope for the best but always brace for anything to happen. At the end of the day it is all rumour and speculation and that's not always infallible. I believe it'll probably happen though.

What are the odds for Virtual Console ?

I'm expecting Virtual Console plans to be revealed at some point during the presentation along with "The following titles are available RIGHT NOW!" If not then, then maybe during Treehouse.

Yeah, I could see Nintendo wanting Zelda to have a bit longer in the over. In under a month it got a patch that made the frame rate to an acceptable level without any downgrades, just code optimization. So I can believe the BOTW bit. Nintendo themselves said Mario Odyssey was basically finished too.

But she probably got a bit too ahead of herself
with all that patreon money
. All reliable insiders get bad info from time to time even if it seems reliable at the time.
Still don't trust the BG&E thing despite the Rabbids rumor seeming to be pretty much confirmed.

I'm pretty sure that Dark Souls rumor of her falls under the category of it only being said by one source and it wasn't vetted.

What are the odds for Virtual Console ?

Seeing how part of Nintendo's paid online service is going to include one free VC game per-month. I'd say it's likely to happen sooner rather than later (also, the trial period for the paid app's going to begin sometime this summer. So there's that).

Then again, negative blowback will be a given when they talk about their online stuff, so I wouldn't be surprised if they held off until Splatoon2's launch to stealthily launch it.

I honestly doubt they will announce Smash at E3 only because Nintendo may want to give ARMS some legs. I mean a hypothetical Smash announcement may cut the legs of ARMS.

Although Nintendo may announce Smash because theyre unpredictable and it might not affect anything.

Would this be one of Nintendo's best E3's ever if it had:

-Super Mario Odyssey
-VC + Mother 3 localization
-new Metroid game
-Pokémon Stars (Switch only)
-Smash 4/5 for Switch
-Fire Emblem Warriors
-COD WWII
-Mario + Rabbids
-FFVIIR or KH3 (pick one)
-Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (2017 release)
-Animal Crossing for Switch

I could see smash (if it's being ported) dropping in November.

Get Mario out in September. Give it some breathing room. And then drop smash in time for the holidays.

Similar to the Zelda-kart drop

Concerning Super Mario Odyssey's "Holiday 2017" release date, they're almost certainly reserving Nintendo Day for it (friday before Black Friday, so it'd be November 17, 2017).

Mario in September? Zero chance. Out of Mario and Smash, I have no idea why you think Smash would be the one to get the Holiday spot.

On top of that we're getting another Mario game in August or September. Makes little sense to release two of them in the same month. Odyssey is one of their big holiday titles.

So it'll be at Square-Enix's?

If it's at E3 it'll be as a PlayStation 4 game. They won't show a Nintendo Switch version.

Sorry guys I can't say where or how I got this. Take it as you will. From my work...

Lego Ninjago movie for NS, release dated for 06/10/17

Mario Odyssey Winter 2017 clearly stated, not Autumn, so could be November or December.

+Another mid/late 2018 game surprise to give us something to look forward to

I'd be satisfied with this plus another 2018 surprise to wet the appetite, if we assume Metroid is a 2018 game as well.

KHIII/FFVIIre ain't happening so I keep my expectations set at seeing more of Project Octopath Traveler. That game looks pretty hype as it stands.

Do we know if there truly even is a Nintendo Switch version?

Well I don't see them releasing a port of Smash as it may hinder the sales of ARMS.

I've always been on the "Smash in September or October" side but with ARMS getting free DLC for an extended period (same with Splatoon) it makes less sense to me to release Smash this year. Feels like an early 2018 title now.

Yep. I think we'll get a Smash 4 Port in Early 2018 (February-April range).

I also think it won't be at e3 because they won't want to potentially cannibalize their own sales with ARMS.

That's the exact kind of announcement you can drop in a September Nintendo Direct to give you something "new" to announce.
