Detailed Horizon Remaster Comparison shots

I never beat Zero Dawn so I've been playing it again on the PS5 so I can really "feel" this remaster on Pro. For the last few sessions I've thought to myself "damn, how much better can this look?"

Pretty impressed!

This game was such a pain to finish and such a snoozefest back in 2017.

You'll have to bear the boring protagonist with no emotions, the poor story and the very redundant gameplay loop served by every open world games those last 15 years.

Oof, some hilariously bitter comments in this thread!

People pretending that the game wasn't popular and generally well received back in 2017, that its somehow this game's "fault" for existing when a Bloodborne remaster doesn't, that although they didn't have the patience to finish the story back in the day they have the time and motivation to shit-post in a thread where somebody has put the effort to create nice comparison screenshots...

Not a good look for you.

The Horizon Series has sold 32M copies as of mid 2023.

It's probably closer to 40M at this point.

People who think it's not popular are blinded by delusion.

Alright, I'll admit I was wrong when I insinuated this was a low effort cash grab. The upgrades push it closer to a cg movie in character rendering and direction vs the 'lifeless action figure' look before.

Lighting and stuff looks good, but all the models look puffy and swollen. Humans, robots and even the building in a way. Maybe some camera lensing effect going on? Not even talking about the Aloy thing. You can see it in every image in the OP with a human and even some of the bots. Even the bricks got plump and rounded.

Well that’s what forums are for no ? Discussions and sharing personal feelings regarding absolute trivial matters.

There’s nothing even remotely serious about watching those slideshows and be amazed either but to each their own I guess.

Cool, but the problem is that Horizon is barely good enough to be played once. I just have no desire to go back no matter how good it looks.
Do you think it's a problem when Levi makes jeans for women? It's not for you brother. It's for the children...let it go.

The insane amount of motion blur when playing this on my PS4 Pro back in the day was too much to bear, so I really didn't make it far when I played it. I'm looking forward to checking it out again with a fresh coat of paint.

Who said it's not popular?

Mediocre? Boring? Snoozefest? Ubisoft game? Sure but how could you say these games aren't popular omg

What I'm wondering is what all these critics are comparing it too. Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, Rebirth? Sure. Ass Creed, Watchdogs, Avatar? Fucking lol.

I know right.

Horizon is getting Lego games, Remasters, VR games and TV shows.

Ubisoft is in disarray.....

Shadows and coloring of original is better. Sure new one has better textures but at what cost? Everything seems overbright.

I'm all for contrarian opinions, certainly not shy about expressing my own, but you have to admit that so much of the flak this remaster is taking is down to everything but the merits/demerits of the original game.
I'm sorry, but the things like the perceived wokification of the sequel, the absence of a Bloodborne remaster, the price of the PS5 Pro etc. Have precisely nothing to do with this remaster or more OT for this thread the effort Nixxes have put in to update it.

I'm pretty sure for most of us reading this, is a $10 optional upgrade!

So quite honestly, it feels to me like a weird thing to get all pissy about :D

Yes, we needed something like this back when the game was revealed because so many of blind gaffers werent able to tell the difference.

That said while the upgrade is decent for $10, its effectively a HZD to HFW leap. There is no new tech here even though its been nearly 3 years since Horizon launched in Feb 2022. This is also a PS5 only title thats not using RT, primitive shaders or ssd tech.

This is effectively the same shit Neil pulled with the TLOU1 remake, only GG has the decency to not charge $70 for it. As a first party studio, you HAVE to have better standards than this. You have to incorporate ray tracing, and use next gen visuals instead of settling for PS4 quality visuals at higher resolutions. Be better. Put some more effort in than the bare minimum. You are first party. There are eastern european b tier studios that are able to add RT to their games on low budgets. Have some self respect. Care about your legacy a bit.

If Ubisoft made games like Horizon they wouldn't be in the position they're currently in.

Aren't Ass Creed games like very popular too? haven't played one in a long time, but saw Valhalla made over 1 billion dollars in revenue a long time ago, others like latest Star Wars flopped tho.

I'm obviously talking about things related to the game.
The other points have nothing to do with Horizon being remastered I agree on that :messenger_ok:

I already plan to get this with the $10 upgrade so this will actually be a deal for me, but I'm not really feeling the comparisons.

The remaster doesn't look bad, but Meridian not being red really does kinda throw the vibe off a little bit for me. Other pictures have also giving that feeling too, like it was some atmosphere lost in the transition.

Another nit pick I have is the water. The water looks God like in HFW. Some of the best water I've seen (up there with no man sky's recent update), but no mention of it in the promotionals for the remaster. It would be kinda bold for that to still be regular graphically.

For $10, I can't complain too much. Hopefully the remaster brings a new richness to the experience that's not really showing in the pictures to me.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I mean... it looks better in places for sure, but these comparisons also kinda highlight how utterly unnecessary and, frankly, uninteresting the remaster is. Honestly, I actually prefer how the original looks in probably half of those shots.

The Tessellation and AF improvements make a huge difference, lighting also, HZD was far from an ugly game, but the remaster makes it look that way side by side, really impressive stuff.

Well, it's a game that looks better that most have played already that didnt look or play bad to begin with.

Yippee fucking doo. Get excite I guess 🤷‍♂️

Console gaming really has stagnated through the fucking floor if this and a few old games look jazzier for a £700+ console coming in two weeks

Where's the innovation? The Wipeouts? Ridge Racers? Loadeds?

Fuck me, it's terrible :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Only just did a run a couple of months ago. But really enjoyed my time with it - more so than the sequel. So for me its great to know this is there for me to revisit in the future. Looks like they've aligned it visually to Forbidden West, which is great. Interested to see what the Pro additions bring. I'd imagine its PSSR and/or higher base resolution.

The lighting is way better but the colors and tone are much worse. The original had a darker and grittier look, everything in the sequel was super bright and colorful just for the sake of having more pop.

They even Forbidden West’d the characters, they look so stupid. Not that Horizon ever had cool characters, but the sequel made them look incredibly bad. The art was the worst part of the game.

Guerrilla pretty much did nothing on this remaster, the only thing they did is recording the new mocap. Nixxes did all the work.

Nixxes had said that they had thought about adding ray tracing for the Forbidden West port but that it was simply too much work for them so the problem is the same for this remaster.

We will be able to judge the evolution of Decima in terms of new features next year with DS2.

Only gaming devs can talk this way and get away with it. if i told my bosses that its too much work, id get laid off the next day.

for 10$ ? I am glad I was able to grab the original game for 7$ US when it was dirt cheap before it went up in price. that plus the 10$ US for total of 17$ remaster version compared to what they are asking in their own store or in steam store ?

yeah.. thats why PC rocks. lez go. can't wait to actually play it and finish it this time. I stopped 2 hours when I had it on the PS4.
