Nintendo E3 plans detailed

I think he means turned based RPGs internally developed by Nintendo. Mother's been developed by mostly outside affiliates (as previously mentioned), as are the Mario RPGs (Square, Intelligent Systems, AlphaDream, and now Ubisoft apparently).

It is true that none of Nintendo's internal development studios or their subsidiaries have done a major traditional RPG...actually, is Miitopia turned based? lol
Yeah, I think Miitopia is EAD (or whatever it's called now)

What would you want, like a "Nintendo" uncharted? I really like the idea of star tropics being redone(nebulous American only IP), but I'm not quite sure what kind of game it is or could be.

I was thinking it would be a rated E10+ game set in modern times with the tongue in cheek elements still there. You'd use a yo-yo and other such weapons, but it would be Nintendos take on the Dark Souls action rpg genre. Difficulty being extreme with abilities gained from bosses ala Megaman or Metroid. There has never been a game with that tone married to that genre and setting and toolset.

On top of that, it would still be spiritually connected to the original with its genre roots, and Nintendo could really go wild with the fourth wall breaking stuff since you could use Switch as a handheld. Imagine it incorporating its own unique online element, where you find treasure boxes in the game which generate locate coordinates that you have to visit in person to unlock the boxes. Then you get to leave message for the next local that finds that chest.

My pure speculations

-Fire Emblem Switch
-Smash 4 Deluxe (it might be this year)
-Pokemon DP Remake
-Mario Maker Switch
-Luigi's Mansion 3
-Animal Crossing Switch
-Some Sort of Metroid

Would be kinda curious to see the meltdowns that would occur if Smash 4 Deluxe doesn't end up happening, considering everyone here seems to be expecting it...
Seriously just like with Slpatoon 2, I fully expect Smash 5 instead of a port. Sakurai would never merely allow a port. It will be full sequel on a mostly same engine.

I feel like it won't get announced at this e3 however since it may drown out Arms. But it still might. I expect Holiday 2018 release and no time soon.

There was also Golden Sun, but that was made by Camelot. But yea, I want to see what an old school JRPG Nintendo can come up with. I could see it being more of a Persona type game, more than a FF/ Dragon Warrior. Or screw it, make a Nintendo version of kingdom hearts.

I don't much care to see a turn based game from Nintendo proper. They have other studios that are better suited with Monolith being very good at modern console JRPGs.
Don't think turn based JRPGs are particularly very good by today's standards even if I really liked last year's Tokyo Mirage Sessions and Persona (though I didn't like that one for it's turn based combat)

Assuming Sakurai signed up for another 3 years of development title for a Smash 4.5. Otherwise Nintendo may have taken quick steps for a Smash DX releasing on the some date stressed by their sales / marketing team.

Nintendo needs a flagship multiplayer title to launch their paid online service. That could be Smash, or it could be another game we don't know about. Smash makes a lot of sense.

Splatoon 2 sold over 5 mil copies on the freaking Wii U. Isn't that flagship enough?

I don't think he'd need to be a director of a port. He could just supervise/produce it.
I imagine he's making an original title, I wonder if it's with Nintendo

That's one game. You sell a service you need some games to sell it. Multiple games.

Yeah. My point was addressing someone who's like Sakurai and a 2018 Smash was automatic. I doubt that he would sign up for any significant development time for a back to back Smash. I think it's clearly in Nintendo's best interest to reuse the assets and pump out a quick DX model rather than even consider a sequel.

Has Sakurai ever been a mere producer or superviser on any game?

He's bit of an auteur, basically always being crazy hands on with everything he's involved with. I've been somewhat under the impression that if he's not directing a game, then he'll have no involvement with it.

Just read a bit of Sakurai's wiki. Pretty crazy that he made a prototype of smash bros without telling Nintendo about it, cause supposedly they wouldn't of allowed him to make it. Imagine if he asked. We wouldn't have smash bros today. Nintendo is waaaaaaaay to protective of their IP's.

My pure speculations

-Fire Emblem Switch yes
-Smash 4 Deluxe (it might be this year) yes
-Pokemon DP Remake no
-Mario Maker Switch maybe but not annouced right now when the new mario is coming soon
-Luigi's Mansion 3 no
-Animal Crossing Switch yes
-Some Sort of Metroid sadly i don't think so

my predictions to your predictions

i wouldnt expect many new games from Nintendo, they are going to give more info on games we already know about, hopefully reveal Retro's game and one other big game and maybe 2 smaller games, it makes more sense for Nintendo to have more big Switch games ready to show by E3 2018

A new Animal Crossing would be great. New Leaf was a big leap forward in terms of stuff to do and ways to express yourself creatively. A similar leap, combined with lovely HD graphics on Switch, would make for a very pleasing experience.

But the game I -really- want to see is Smash. I want a definitive edition of Smash 4, on Switch, with all of the characters still intact. From there, they can add whatever features or additional content they want. It'd be nice to see Ice Climbers, Wolf and Snake come back, and to see Inklings and Spring Man added.

Whatever the case, I just want Smash on Switch. Oh, and Pokemon Stars. Those are the two rumored titles I really want to pan out.

Nintendo's already got the Mario Kart, ARMS, Splatoon train going. Yeah the actual launch of the paid online would be nice to have with a big game (Monster Hunter perhaps?), but they've got multiple games lined up.

Smash will most likely release next year.

I also feel like it won't be a port either.

More likely early 2018 but people are going to be surprised by Nintendo Spotlight regardless tho.

Unless they're building off of Smash 4, it's too soon for an actual sequel.

Would you say same thing for Melee many years ago? I meant N64 > Melee within two years or so.

I'm not saying that they would do it but it's not impossible tho.

Has Sakurai ever been a mere producer or superviser on any game?

I'm not sure about that but it's not impossible that he could become producer or supervisor and still can be hand-on the project to make sure that it tag along just well. Either way, he would be involved with the project somehow.

I just want there to be a part in the E3 Spotlight where a blatant Reggie stunt double does a million cartwheels across the screen, and then the real Reggie resumes talking like yep, that was me.

This would naturally be part of a musical number that culminates with Sakurai descending on wires amid pyrotechnics, announcing Super Smash Bros: Snake is Back Edition.

If they showed Smash, Pokémon, Retros game and Metroid/Animal Crossing that's pretty huge. I wouldn't ask for more than that.

This leads into my point/argument that I think we need the comic/light-hearted/skits to be an essential part of E3, or at the very least Nintendo's showing, in whatever form that is. While I get some people may argue that doing something "silly" or "humorous" won't cancel out any and all bad practices Nintendo, as a company, may undergo (ie shutting down fan mods/remakes), I at the very least want E3 to still have a bit of character and personality rather than just this drab "BUZZWORDS BUZZWORDS BUZZWORDS I'M A SUIT ON STAGE PLEASE BE EXCITED!" showcase.

I'll take Iwata & Reggie beating the shit out of each other in 2014 to promote Smash, over Microsoft's carefully-worded style and/or Sony's two hours of "substance" any day. That said, Sony I think have improved on their delivery these past couple of years. Ultimately, it makes me laugh when you get people saying: "Errr yeah so E3 is meant to be professional and informative and Nintendo are...like...not taking it seriously...". Sure, I want clear information relayed and actual gameplay to base an opinion on, but E3 has already become this sort of semi-culture within video games; we always go into it expecting/hoping for some [un]intended laughs or sense that it's not entirely become a dry, cut-throat corporate affair. And out of the big three, I've always believed Nintendo recognise this approach a lot better, even if their actual content ends up lacking.

I have a feeling you may be disappointed this year. At least if the January conference and the subsequent two Directs are anything to go by, it looks like they have dialed down the goofy silliness. Although it seems to be replaced by more game content, which I guess is a good thing.

Someone earlier in this thread said that if they do actually want to do a silly Robot Chicken esque theme then this year they should do Rick and Morty. Which could line up really well with the theme of travelling to different worlds in Mario Odyssey.

I'll take more game content over silliness. I love Nintendo's humor in their Directs, but as stated it's not there anymore. We've gotten more content and everyone likes their Directs even more.

I trust their Spotlight will only be Switch games and filled with more content and less of the skits compared to the past, which is fine by me.

I wouldn't say the humor is gone. The stuff with Biff and the Squid Research Lab from the last two Directs are still silly and goofy. I guess Nintendo wants their corporate image to be a bit more professional and less amaturish, but still retain some silliness every now and again.

I meant they're not doing the in between skits this year. Like Bill being stuck on an island with the direct they had last year or the Robot Chicken skit for example. Biff is part of the content to me. It's professional like you said. The SRL kind of takes up time and this last direct they didn't have them speak. Idk we'll see. Everyone has really liked the Directs this year compared to previous years and I expect the Nintendo Spotlight to be the same thing where everyone comes out of it and says "man that was much better than the digital events of the past".

I just want Nintendo to surprise the hell out of us for their classic IPs on Switch. Zelda and Mario have already done a great job of that, and pushing new IP like Splatoon and ARMS has been refreshing for their library.

Out of all the Nintendo IP, I'm actually looking forward to a modern Animal Crossing the most. It has so much ridiculous potential for that and the Switch being a handheld hybrid is also the perfect platform to do it on. Although that team has been focusing on Splatoon 2 so it might be later in the generation that we see it.

People predicting stuff are forgetting the "FOCUS ON GAMES THIS YEAR" part

I what way? I think it seems pretty likely that the 1st party line-up for 2017 isn't completely announced yet. Announcing every 2017 1st party title in January seems very unlikely.

The 2014 Digital Event was the best. Games AND a sense of humor (Robot Chicken, Matrix).

But my favorite part were the location visits, like that awesome yarn shop where they went to talk about Woolly World, and the old Japanese house where they discussed Hyrule Warriors, and the Kyoto aquarium where they unveiled Splatoon. 2015 had the visit to the Shinto shrine in their talk about Star Fox Zero.

This year, maybe they could take a trip to some exotic place to talk about Mario Odyssey, in keeping with the game's travel theme. Or go to an observatory to discuss Pokémon Stars!

Yeah, the format and presentation of 2014's show showed that pre recorded can be better than live. Cut the BS like waiting for applause or for someone to walk on stage and gloat about sales numbers.
2015 had that yarn yoshi segment where they spent way too long on the process of making the amiibo which killed momentum hard. They also spread out announcements through like 3 different showings.
Hopefully this year is more like 2014. If ARMS and e3 are both good then Switch is probably set till the holidays

Semi-related to the topic: what 1st/2nd party titles are we gonna expect for 2018? (talking about the full lineup in 2018, doesn't have to be shown at E3 necessarily)

- Mario Party: Switch Up
- Animal Crossing
- Metroid Entropy
- Super Mario Maker+
- Zelda Maker or Paper Zelda
- Pikmin 4 if it doesn't make this year
- Some large scale amiibo game

Can't say it in that current Atlus 3DS games thread so I'll say it here: Kill the 3DS. Give Switch everything.

Kill 3DS slowly or fast. Just let it go.

Probably can't force 3rd parties to drop 3DS, a lot of 3DS Atlus games also likely wouldn't be a great fit on Switch anyways. They are working on SMTV or whatever it's called. Same with IS with FE Echoes and FE Next on Switch

Fire Emblem Echoes should've also released on Switch. Do a Fire Emblem Collection: Awakening, Fates and Echoes on Switch.

Where's all the leaks? Mario doing a good job.

I hope nothing gets leaked. We're getting into the danger zone where leaks and rumors will become prevalent.

*crosses fingers*

Well, if we're going by this, then technically Nintendo didn't exactly create Mother, either. Creatures and HAL Labs (who have both been heavily involved in the series' development) aren't owned by Nintendo.

Although...Mother 3 was co-developed by Brownie Brown, who exist today as 1-UP Studio and are owned by Nintendo.

HAL Labs wasn't involved in the creation of Mother. Nintendo and Ape created the series. Nintendo actually set up an office in tokyo to develop it. They provided a few of the programmers and audio for the game.

HAL worked on the sequel, and the never released N64 game.

I want to see Nintendo really make a traditional JRPG. Other than earthbound series they've never done one. Mario rpg was made by square.

Before Miitopia - Sakamoto's team developed 2 RPG IPs for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color / Advance.

Exactly that ... the direct is focused in 2017 so for example :

My pure speculations

-Pokemon DP Remake
-Mario Maker Switch
-Luigi's Mansion 3
-Animal Crossing Switch
-Some Sort of Metroid

Fire Emblem Switch is confirmed 2018, rare to have a remake of a Pokemon game on the same year as the 3rd version and I would doubt Animal Crossing would come out in the same year as the mobile version

That post was in response to someone asking what first party titles to expect in 2018, not what they're expecting at E3.

And anyway, focused on 2017 suggests they will announce some 2018 games. As we discussed extensively earlier in this thread.
