The newest issue of ONM contains an interview with Animal Crossing: New Leaf Director, Aya Kyogoku. The interview is full of the usual pablum, until Kyogoku starts talking about colleagues who are playing New Leaf.

AK: In my department there's a man called Mr Imamura who has been working on the Star Fox franchise. He's always been a big fan of Animal Crossing and is playing New Leaf at the moment.

Seems like an interesting admission by Kyogoku.

Me 3 days ago:
As for F-Zero and Star Fox, Takaya Imamura has been involved in just about every game in both series (if not every single one). He's a Director in EAD No. 5 (the Wii Fit team) and his last two projects were direction on Steel Diver and coordinating with Q-Games Star Fox 64 3D. I have a feeling that if there's a new F-Zero or Star Fox he will be involved in some way. Either EAD will take some development responsibility, or like his last 2 projects, they'll coordinate with another outside company.

Me yesterday:
I've posted a theory before a couple of times (but been largely ignored). Takaya Imamura has spent most of his career at Nintendo working on Star Fox and F-Zero, now he's in EAD 5 (otherwise known as the Wii Fit Studio), but his projects there have been director of Steel Diver and project coordinator on Star Fox 64 3D.

I think, if there's going to a game in either the F-Zero or Star Fox franchises, he's the man at EAD who's going to be involved with it and note that he's been free for nearly 2 years now. Just saying.

.

Maybe. Then again, Nintendo shit simply doesn't leak in the first place. X didn't leak. SMT x FE didn't leak. Neither Platinum game leaked. Nintendo is the undisputed master of keeping secrets, well, secret. With them, the one thing you can be sure about is that the absence of information isn't prove that there is no information.

That is very well said.

I'll agree to this. :P

Likewise... Nintendo will at least mention the Wii U Zelda and likely will show at least some concept art.

Nintendo isn't likely to hold anything back this E3, even if the best they can do is literally "We promise you, we're making this!"

I remember that AceMedicine guy was soooooo adamant on Mario would NOT launch alongside the Wii-U and wouldn't be shown at E3. Especially with them putting Mario games on 3DS in the same year.

And then he got perma'd

Watching Peer talk Nintendo feels so right. The rest of those people don't seem to know much.

Yeah it's always good to see peer talk Nintendo. It reminds me of the old days when IGN Nintendo actually had inside sources and teased dark games over podcasts. I actually kind of like the current IGN Nintendo team but they're still not the same.

You guys think we will see FExSMT in this Direct? It seems to be so early in development so I'm skeptical.

I haven't played any game of each series so I really don't know what to expect. :s

I've only been studying web design and development for a few weeks, but I'm confident I can make a better website than the one Retro currently has.

HMU Retro.

They already explained that. They are more into games, than in websites.

Isn´t it for atleast a year in development?

And try Awakening.

Yeah, we thought the same thing last year.

-Reggie comes out, talks about what they did last year(disappoint lots of people, Nintendoland, etc), then re-confirms it's "all about the games"

-Wonderful 101 trailer, looks fuckin' awesome, announces it will be playable at Best Buy

-Pikmin 3 again, yep still Pikmin, also at Best Buy

-"oh hey we have third parties guys believe us" time, sizzle reel of Batman/Ubisoft Games/Batman Again(it's not the same game, it's not the same content)/maybe CoD

-Wii-U Party/Fit time, desperate attempt to grab casual audience, E3-GAF interest slowly dying, "OMG Nintendo fucking up three years in a row!", etc

-Wind Waker HD, still Wind Waker, no new content, enjoy your triforce fetch quest

-Bayonetta 2 trailer shown, has 10 seconds of gameplay, 2014 release. Gameplay is put in GIF form and used in every "Nintendo has no games!" argument on the internet for the next few months(see: dat X gif that gets posted everywhere)

-Mario Kart U is shown. Looks like Mario Kart, alright. Don't go into detail about online play

-Super Mario Universe announced, heavy multiplayer focused, very divisive reaction. Miiverse interaction HEAVILY detailed.

-Retro game shown, ITS MOTHAFUCKIN' STAR FOX THANK YOU BASED IWATA, dudes flying around blowing up shit, pew pew pew, rainbows fly out of my ass, looks like SF64 on steroids, dreams do come true, BELIEVE, etc

-"Before we go...." Smash Bros CGI trailer shown, brief screenshots of work-in-progress, coming in 20XX

My god I can so see this happening.

All I ask for, and I think this is realistic, is the 3D Mario game is fucking spectacular, like Galaxy was in 06, and is playable at Best Buy.

I can totally see a CG only Smash Bros trailer. That would suck.

More like insanity.

Considering most games in January barely had any footage shown - I think even X had only ~30 seconds all up - I dunno if there's any proof it's that early in development that they couldn't show something.

A CG trailer is grand what would suck is not featuring any new characters.

Is there a reason that everyone expects 4/5 newcomers in this first trailer? Perhaps trying to reason with peoples' mad hype wishlists is daft.

Yeah, we thought the same thing last year.
I wouldn't recommend getting one's hopes up.

However, this year is quite different from last year.

In 2011 and 2012, the WiiU had not yet launched. So naturally, most of the focus was on the system itself, and on "proof of concept" titles like ZombiU from third-party partners, while Nintendo itself slowly marshaled its resources for HD development.

Now, in 2013, the system is out. We know what it is, how it works, what it's about. We've even had a couple firmware updates improving it.

In addition, since last E3, a number of titles have been announced: Bayonetta 2. Yarn Yoshi. The Wind Waker HD. SMT x Fire Emblem. Monolith Soft's X. And so forth. Going into E3 2012, all we knew is Nintendo was prepping a new NSMB and a new Pikmin. They gave us that, plus Nintendo Land and Project P-100 (now TW101).

This year, 3D Mario and Mario Kart and SSB4 are confirmed for E3. We also know that we will finally see the Wind Waker remake in action, and Pikmin 3 and TW101 will put their best foot forward (all evidenced by the E3 teaser site).

Beyond that, who knows, but for my tastes, those six games are already quite exciting. It's merely a question of how much they will show of each of those titles.

As for what titles they may show beyond that, who knows? We know some possibilities, such as the various new titles that were unveiled in the January Direct. We haven't seen anything on them since then. Nintendo knows we know of their existence; they might as well show us new material on them.

And indeed, since the system is out, this is an E3 where Nintendo knows they need to regain momentum. They know now what they didn't know then: That the WiiU wasn't some smash hit out of the gate like the Wii. They also know that their competitors in the living room, PS4 and Xbone, are out this holiday season. So, I wouldn't be surprised if they were a bit more liberal with their game coverage this time.

Let's hope!

They're at their best when either Peer or Fran is on the panel. Jeremy Parish filled that role pretty well for a few weeks, too.

You need to get off yo butt and play Fire Emblem Awakening. But wrap it up quick so you can play SMT4 next month!

Is it? Considering the trailer didn't show anything expect character art I thought they haven't come far. But then again, I don't know shit about video game development, lol.

I heard Awakening was good, but it looks really complicated, and I have a couple of other DS/3DS games to finish first.

Yeah, we thought the same thing last year.

Again, we have an actual tease this time.

Just me doing some bad math based on the fact that Hashino teased it in the beginning of august last year.

Well then, try it later or try the demo ;). And its not really complicated.

Yeah, we thought the same thing last year.

Before last E3, they didn't talk much of anything about the game, if anything at all. A few Directs ago we got some information on what to expect from it, and in the mean time we'll get to enjoy Wind Waker HD. I don't think we're going to see anything final, but a piece of concept art, vague details, a beta screenshot, etc isn't too out of the question.

100 fucking pages since last Friday. NintendoGAF don't play around.

We had like 4 Nintendo E3 Threads including this and they we're all 50 page + before we moved onto the next one, so if you add them together we would of had a 250+ page thread already.

Just wanted to let you know I read your post and I congratulate you for figuring that out. Uh, that's all, just thought you'd want to know.

Now I'm realizing this might come off as sarcasm. None intended, really, I have no idea why people are ignoring you.

Didn't the Brawl reveal have 4/5 newcomers? Kid Icarus, Wario, Snake, Metaknight, and Zero Suit Samus (The trailer called her a newcomer.) People expect a repeat of Brawl I guess.

You can always try out the demo

Whoa whoa whoa, is this really a thing? Do we know that this is actually happening?

We don´t know if its an action title ( I know, its pretty likely), but we know for sure that they are working on an exclusive 3DS title. But I rather expect to see it at TGS to be honest.

Edit: Beaten like [insert someone]
