My baseless, speculated predictions for "surprises":

- A big western 3rd party multiplat previously not expected to come to Wii U will end up being announced in the US stream but not the Japanese stream
- Atlus will announce an exclusive that is in the Japanese stream but not the US stream
- Ubisoft will announce ZombiU2
- Sega's 3rd game will be casual-bait and unappealing to gaf at large
- Nintendo's next big collaboration will be with Capcom but it wont be Nintendo vs. Capcom or Megaman related, may be a new IP
- Tecmo-Koei will announce a surprise exclusive
- There will be a sizzle reel for eshop indie games
- Monster Games shows a Wii U title that's a racing game but still somehow not F-zero or Wave Race

Anyone else have a sliver of hope that we'll see a localized Yakuza 1+2 HD announced for WiiU in the west? I kind of wanted to get into the series so I really wanted the PS3 one to come over and that never happened, the WiiU version is my last hope! I need it!

Nintendo E3 hypetrains are the only thing that could turn an event showing the first official reveals of 3D Mario, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and most likely Retro's game into a disappointment. Keep in mind that we've already seen a lot during Directs that otherwise would have been saved for E3, such as Yarn Yoshi, Yoshi's Island 3, X, FE x SMT, WWHD, LTTP2.

Many of us are hoping for a Monster Games-developed entry into one of Nintendo's racing franchises like Wave Race or F-Zero.

A Capcom relationship would be nice. Seems like things fell apart after the Capcom 5 and then the "test games" on Wii though. Then Capcom bet big on MT Framework last gen, and looks to be front and center with Deep Down on PS4. So I don't see that happening.

I honestly think the best chance Nintendo has for quality partnerships are precisely what you mentioned with Next Level Games. Find up-and-coming devs like NLG that Nintendo can groom their raw talent into very polished products with the Nintendo charm.

I'd go further and say that studios like NLG and Monster should eventually be bought and integrated into Nintendo, like Retro and Monolith Soft. I think having more Left Field Productions and whatever happened to Rare benefits nobody.

2014 for Retro and Smash.

I forgot about Monster Games. Wave Race by them would be cool!

i'll say it until it happens. Capcom could very easily be working on the next Zelda game.

-Just like Namco-Bandai is one of the most developed fighting studios in Japan, Capcom is the leader in Action-Adventure
-Capcom's worked on Zeldas before
-the current director of the 3D Zeldas is just recently an ex-Capcom employee.
-Nintendo obviously has a close working relationship with them because of MH3/4, Resident Evil - those games even got Wii U ports which show Capcom may have a stake in the future of the Wii U
-Dragon's Dogma wasn't a major seller either, the sequel should really be put off until next-gen consoles move into households
-Zelda is not a big money printer for Nintendo anymore, but big enough to be a highly lucrative property for a third-party. this game needs to come out even if they don't make a whole lot of money off of it.
-lots of parts of Dragon's Dogma could translate into Zelda, just like how Tekken could translate well into Smash Brothers

Capcom working on Zelda would be interesting.

My predictions:

-Iwata has a special guest--it's Mega Man! Before Mega Man can announce that Legends 3 has been revived, his head is cut off by a beam katana. Travis Touchdown appears and announces No More Heroes Vs. The Killer 7.

-Smash Bros. U trailer plays showing new characters. Trailer ends and there's a cardboard box next to Iwata, who looks at it incredulously. Kiefer pops out, says "Kept you waiting, huh?" and announces Snake will return in the new Smash game, along with Otacon and Johnny Poo Pants.

-Kiefer takes off his Kiefer mask and BAM, it's David Hayter. "Kept you waiting, huh?" again, announces MGSV: Hayters Only edition for Wii U. Hops on a Yoshi and rides it off frame.

-Retro's new game is Metroid x F-Zero, where Samus has to team up with Nintendo's other bounty hunter, Captain Falcon, to stop Mother Brain and Samurai Goroh's diabolical plan to blow up a space hospital for phazon or something.
