Nintendo is playing with Fire of Excessive DRM

Waking up today, my conclusion about the switch 2 is that the Game Sharing, and New Game Card Keys in physical stores, The Patches of Switch 2 Edition of games, and Finally Online required before using an SD Express Card. It seems that Nintendo hit the panic button and is on Red Alert against any Piracy. There seems to be checks requiring online in various stages of playing or adding games.

In a way, Nintendo are being cowards for not going all digital and stopping the issue dead in the tracks, but their need to appeal for children therefore really have presence in stores, and now I am worried people will end up in skedaddles of account Management and Games not working without internet. And buying the wrong versions with no refunds.(Because DRM will affect the second hand and returns).
This was why Don Matrick failed the Xbox. Could the new Nintendo also fail its core users ? Will Nintendo say the infamous words of "If you want a console without online we have a product for you its the Switch 1".

Edit: According to Digital Foundry the Game Key Cards are not attached to an account.

I don't think they will fail or even backing the decision like Microsoft did, but i think it will affect their sales. I think the nintendo curse is real, they can't make 2 good consoles in a row without fucking up.

the reaction online has been a disaster but you are right. it's the SW2 a WiiU moment?

None of what you listed would combat the system getting hacked and piracy. I don't really see the DRM angle either. There were already games on the Switch 1 that didn't have the game on the cartridge.

Nintendo fucked up in one crucial area and that area is the family sector of there business. With the switch 2 being 450 in the U.S while we're in the midst of an economic downturn is a tough sell for parents looking to buy this thing for there kid/kids. I mean it's 450 plus accessories, plus games, plus a fee to get nintendo online and suddenly you're looking at a massive amount of upfront cost to get this thing. All i can say is good luck selling that to parents that have other things they need to spend there money on and are making salaries that can't justify the cost of this thing.

Wait, GameShare requires DRM? I thought it was just the Nintendo DS thing but for Switch 2?

I’ll hold out on the rest until we know for sure what’s actually in the Switch 2 Edition game cartridges. Well, except for the ‘Card Keys’ thing, that’s bullshit and always has been.

Japan will completely reject these game key cards. They're just trying to get the best of both worlds because they know westerners no longer care about actually owning things.

No GameShare presumably not. But Game Sharing where you lend out a game for 2 weeks.

And thats for 1 kid. Growing up my little brother would ask for one of the same of everything I got gifted, assuming most siblings are that way parents will either buy 2 switches or none at all.

Nintendo INVENTED region lock.
You are not going to convince them to not do it, especially with tariffs on the way. The whole point is that things has to be priced differently in each region because some PEOPLE decided to mess up free trade. So now region lock is coming back to stop people bypassing tariffs. Congratulations, to people who allowed this to happen.

The game key cards are better than the current system, atleast you can sell them on rather than just receiving a download code in a box

Now you have to remove the physicals game you have in your Switch 2 in order to play what is essentially a digital copy, instead of just getting a digital copy that you can launch directly from your home screen..

Did you though?

Cogent analysis. Matrick's mistake was having us all end up in skedaddles.

I’m not buying either if this is the only option they give me. But yeah, you might as well just go digital in this case I feel.

This “key card” thing is nothing but more hurdles compared to just getting a code.

Have you seen what hackers have done to Switch 1?

I am surprised they are going this far with DRM. But honestly, its understandable.

Who did they think I was shilling for?
For a moment I read the title of this thread as

‘Nintendo is playing with FIRE EMBLEM’ and I was excited,

What a bummer

I can only speak for myself, but after the past year of frivolous lawsuits, attempting to kill emulation, and general bullshittery with their IPs and legal team, along with these aggressive anti-consumer practices announced today, they will never get another cent from me personally. I honestly don't care what they make, no matter how good it looks, I won't be buying it. I have literally thousands of games in my Steam library, not to mention other platforms and launchers, so even if I put all of my free gaming time into playing games from now until I die, I would never run out. Nintendo can get fucked, and I'd love to see this backfire on them. I would love to see somebody make a Switch 2 emulator the first month of release just to piss them off and make all of these decisions just worthless revenue-killing mistakes.

If fanboys concede here and eat the shit sandwich they are being served, the industry is about to get a whole lot worse very quickly.

Nah, you speak for me as well. I was kinda looking forward to Switch 2, if only for the reason that the games wouldn't look like absolute ass on a 4K screen. After all this bullshit, they can go hop off a cliff. Fuck Nintendo.
