Nintendo of America not allowing SSBM to be streamed at EVO [Up: Decision Reversed]

Beyond dumb Nintendo, but how do the EVO guys not get permission right after the choices were made? There was a time when people had to worry about the CapCops too. I can't believe they simply forgot. A company willing to work with EVO could have been getting the support the whole time.

this is funniest/saddest thing about the whole sitation. they're shitting exclusively on diehard nintendo/smash fans with this. the one group they're banking on to keep their shitty console afloat. personally, i want the game to show up at evo but im more angry at how heartless/ignorant a company can be concerning their fans. my only hope is that evo sent a half hearted email to nintendo legal they gave a canned response back after barely looking at the email, and that this will all be rectified soon.
You have no idea how much salt sweat and tears they put into this along with Skullgirls fans. This is such a major fuckup I can't even begin to describe it. I'm pretty pissed since Melee is one of my top three games of all time in general and definitely in my top three for fighters.

Bayonetta is fun and still a videogame - there are no negative real life stories related to Bayonetta.

With FGC you have Aris stuff, Noel Brown lately, whatever random Kotaku article, blah blah blah.

I'm not saying that's what it is, but it's, sadly, a possibility.

Fire Emblem Awakening objectifies women more than Aris ever did. Nintendo did this because they like making awful decisions, that is all.

Nintendo makes some dumb decisions but this has to be one of the worst.

Didn't people raise money for charity for this game to be at evo and don't they have a new smash bros coming out which would benegit from the free advertising?

If it can't be streamed then it might as well not be in the tournament.

The way they waited until 3 days before EVO just so people have less time to bother them about doing this is, quire frankly, fucking hilarious.

*draws line*
Come and defend this one folks.
Step right up.

Reggie and crew REALLY make it hard to want to support Nintendo right now.

I am so heartbroken right now, if this can't be changed no matter how loud people are about it I'm going to be so upset. My weekend, even though there's still EVO, will be LESS hype because of this. :(

People are saying there was a fundraiser against cancer involved in getting Smash to EVO.

Makes it even more evil.

Ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

I imagine it's a advertising issue, much like the conflict they took up with LPers earlier in the year. They likely wanted a significant cut of the streaming revenue, and EVO wouldn't budge.

Regardless of your opinion of Smash as a fighting game, it was going to be some much needed good publicity for Nintendo (with a great story attached!).

It's time for Nintendo to come out of the dark ages and realize this new-fangled Internet might actually do them some good.

Raise some social media hell people. This is vile and seems spiteful.

While this is disappointing, I had no idea EVO 2013 was this weekend. I really should follow these things more closely.

Well I think I know what I'll be doing! :)

Ahoy.

The saddest/funniest/saddest again thing about this is that so many people donated money to get Smash into Evo knowing they wouldn't be able to attend the event, and now they won't even be able to watch it.

Nintendo's become pretty notorious for this kind of draconian bullshit, though, so I can't say I'm really surprised.

It's stunning how hard is for Nintendo to understand the world around them. Man, so many awful mistakes and unawareness.

They are willing to fund games that would bomb even if their console was successful like Bayo 2 just to get reputation among hardcore gamers but they won't let Melee be the main course of the biggest videogame championship in the world for the people watching on the internet because they don't want anybody to profit out of their IP?

Seriously, they have to get out more or something.

Ponder on Smashboards

This sounds like NOA's legal department continuing on their crusade against youtube videos. It makes some arguable amount of sense when they go after full play-though videos of games the week of their release, but going after the streaming of a live tournament for a series they are developing a sequel to makes no business sense. I bet NOA legal and marketing departments have no idea what the other one is doing in this situation. In this case tweeting at NOA might make sense if it alerts someone who makes decisions to pull on legal's leash this time for the sake of marketing.

I'm really baffled I mean come on

They do all these things like SpotPass CEO appearances, listening to Miiverse feedback and doing Nintendo Directs every two months to get in touch with their fans and YET they fail to get what people want

UGH

So what's the plan now? Bombing NoA's/Sakurai's Twitter accounts? Drawing Miiverse crap?

I had no idea Smash used to be part of MLG.

That honestly about wraps this up then. Still would like to know how/why this wasn't cleared with Nintendo you know, back in February.

But they were fine with Apex? What's Nintendo's criteria then? 'be smaller than evo and mlg'

Or just don't ask nintendo.

Those events were much smaller, and MLG/Evo also are pretty (openly) commercialized and it's clear that at least some kind of money or profit is being made there.

lol it's actually quite humorous how fucking dumb this is. just a few days before the tournament. people donated money to see this.

what the fuck.

This blows ass because they tried so far, but it's still hilarious.
