Nintendo PR Pissed About GDC?

This is my first new thread, finally. Yay! Please be gentle with me.

It looks like the webmaster(s) of Nintendo's PR site weren't too happy that everyone and their brother knew the universal user/pass combo to get into the site, bringing it down several minutes before their GDC coverage was even posted.

If you go to press.nintendo.com and try the old user/pass (which has been the same for 6 or more years in my experience), you'll find that it no longer works. (Try the one at bugmenot.com if you really want to.)

Does anyone have any information on this or know if there is a new universal password or if they're moving to a more strict specific user list?

Anyway, looks like we definitely did our part in wanging the PR server so bad they finally thought to change the password. Congrats!

The past 2 E3's hammered their servers much harder than this years GDC. If they didn't mind before, it seems weird to change the password now.

Heh, who's this "we"? i was merely a bystander. i got on last week using a BMN password after the old one failed to take, but that one's dead too.

In the official nintendo thread, it seemed that most people there were just constantly refreshing GAF in one tab and Nintendo PR in the other for the better part of an hour.

As for the site being hammered much harder in the past, I guess this must have just been a last straw for them. I don't think I'd ever seen a freaking apache error before this time, so the load during GDC was still definintely significant.

Actually, i was saying i didn't take part in it. If you find the original thread, you'll see i posted a couple of times.

Stay out of my castle!

I remember back when it was media/media... But now I have my own username/password, and I am not sharing it with anyone else! *cue evil laugh*

BTW, the bugmenot password doesn't work.

That was the point of the thread. I didn't know the code, but after someone posted that tip in one of the GDC Nintendo threads, I did. Worked up until the press conference. Then the servers were swamped. And when they died down, the password was invalidated.

I am FUCKING GLAD they have changed whatever the universal pass was. IT IS MEANT FOR JOURNALISTS. However they fucked up further than just not changing the password: when the site finally came back up, the only Zelda downloads they offered were like 240x180 stamp-sized 3MB NONSENSE - the whole while, a high-res version was available on the NOA consumer site anyway. IF you could download it, that is. It was just nonsense.

Nintendo knew/know right well that the public at large had access to the site. Why the hell do people thing the free ride lasted as long as it did?!

Oh, and it's still working fine for me, so I really don't know what the problem is.

And yet we'll have the new sign in before E3...no worries there. :lol

Working for me too.

What frustrates me about the PR is that there is clearly a better one out there somewhere! One that makes the US and [especially] the UK Press Sites pale in comparison!

Take the Mario Party Advance Art for example. The US Nintendo press site has 6 pieces of drawn artwork. The UK Nintendo press site has 4 character renders, which I doubt will be used in the game, and were probably from when the game was announced.

BUT THEN places like Jeux-France and Game-Kult, both French sites, have shitloads more! Jeux-France end up deleting most of the artwork after about a month, and Game-Kult lock it away after a week or so, in which you need to pay for it later on. [Although I have uploaded whatever I could get here ]

Is this some sort of French conspiracy? :D SURELY there is some sort of holy grail of a press site somewhere. Is there a French one? A Japanese one? What's the deal?

[And if anyone has access, help the VGAA and give me the login/pass :D :D :D ]

It's the Royal "We". Didn't you know that Juice is actually Queen Elizabeth II. Superstar Mystery Poster ahoy! :D

If they're smart, they should set up individual keys and passwords so they know who leaked the password. It's not a lot of work. Boo fucking hoo

Anyone know about this uber-press site?

Bumping since if anyone has the info it'd be really great :)

Heck, Gamewatch is getting stuff that neither press sites would end up getting :\
