Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games seemingly not including NS2 upgrades in the cartridge data (need to be downloaded)

Includes the Nintendo Switch [1] game and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack.
Which implies that it's a NS1 cartridge bundled with the NS2 upgrade that would need to be downloaded, just so buying a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game on physical would lead it to play on Nintendo Switch 1 as well. Basically like Smart Delivery on Xbox.

The official website also explicitly states that it's a bundle that includes the original game and its upgrade pack, instead of only including a Nintendo Switch 2 game.

Why split skus? Lol this is just a hardware upgrade benefit mostly, sell it as an enhanced upgrade with that map stuff, but most are in it for the better performance.

Does "bundle" imply it's not included on the cartridge?

I think they'd explicitly state that it's a separate download if that's the case since it'd require an online connection.

Cuz if I can't get a physical cart version of it with the new data on the cart, then I ain't fucking buying it. Yeah I know, "digital is the future". Well not for me it isn't.

Kinda, I don't see any reason for it to be a 'bundle' other than including 2 separate SKUs (which is exactly what the wording hints at, especially with 'including the upgrade pack').
They will probably update it later, informantion has been sparse for some reason.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer the dumb delivery™ version where the native Switch 2 game is on the cart.

I actually was considering rebuying BOTW and TOTK, but after learning this, I won't now. I'll just keep my OG Switch physical copies. Thank you.

Sounds like a crappy deal to me.

But I'll be interested to know more about it. If that's the case I might as well just buy the cheaper Switch(1) version of Prime 4 and get the upgrade pack for "free".

Well the game is the same it seems. The improvements are hardware based. Kind of shitty alone, you're already paying for the new hardware and your paying more to unlock the hardware features.

Nah, you're not old fashioned, it's just the better way, and it's common on PS5. At the very least, other pubs won't do these 'Nintendo Switch 2 Edition' games and just make normal NS2 releases (based on these being used as NSO perks, which probably suggests that it's exclusive to Nintendo games).

Maybe I'm reading it wrong but I don't interpret the same implication of the expansion being a download and if a download is required, they usually tell you the storage space required.

The thing is that the expansion in particular is the entire new SKU, and you wouldn't be able to include both a Nintendo Switch [1] game and the upgrade pack within a single cartridge without it requiring an additional download. The wording in the website hints at it being the case even more.
Just in case though, I put a 'rumor' tag, because they're still not pretty clear about it. We don't even know the prices yet, lol.

It could just be some confusing marketing, a poor way of saying "includes the original game with Switch 2 enhancements". Nintendo trying to give Joe Consumer a reason to purchase the game again.

Initially what I suspected, but it's honestly a mistake that would easily get caught on, ESPECIALLY for the physical version (as digital should give you both SKUs easily). Guess we'll see.

It just goes to show how uneven and confusing the Direct was.

Isn't the Switch 2 version of Zelda just a patch setting the framerate to 60 and the resolution higher ?

I think the wording was similar on the Breath of the Wild re-release they did that included the expansion pass. All the content was on the card, but the box said essentially "includes the game and expansion pack / expansion pack sold separately". But, all the content was on the game card, they were just warning you that this is something you might already own. Could be the same thing here.

What does everybody think the price will be for upgrades? My hope is like $10 a game, but any more then that it's just worth it to buy the expansion pass and play them within a year.

Hope for $10, expect $20, and I think their will be variable pricing up to $30 for games like Kirby that add levels

Me too. I'm sure there is some crackpot anti-piracy reason Nintendo prefers this solution to repacking it all on the cart.

It's not clear to me that it is so, it may be written that way to make it clear that it is the base game plus the upgrade expansion in the same cartridge (bundle), so you don't need to have the base game plus you can buy the expansion separately if you already have it.

I suggest anyone looking to buy Metroid Prime 4, to get the Switch 1 version instead.
At least you won't have that horrible Switch 2 case, lol.

I don't know what to believe.
Different support staff saying different things. Confirmation from someone at Nintendo not being paid minimum wage would be nice.
