Nintendo - Switch 2 Upgrade Packs are $9.99

These prices are all over the place. $10 here for all upgrades, $80 there for some new games. Guess that is "variable" pricing.

I don't think that's universal. Arent the ones with additional content like Kirby and Mario Party $20?

BOTW and ToTK are both $10 more for the physical compared to last-gen $70 and $80 respectively.

Kirby and Mario Party are both $80, $20 more than they launched on Switch 1.

Yes, this seems to be exactly it. Basically, they have a three tier approach to updates:

1. If it's just a basic performance patch or adding compatability with Switch 2 features, then it's free.

2. If it's a substantial graphical upgrade, usually with some small additional features thrown in, then it's $10.

3. If it's a graphical upgrade and substantial new content (basically DLC), then it's $20.

I'm with Arachnid Arachnid on this one. How paying for an update has become something so acceptable is alien to me.

"Hey bro, want to take full advantage of this new hardware you just got with your old games? Sure just pay some extra bucks".

I'm ashamed to admit I never finished BoTW lol
Guess i'll do it on SW2...

There's plenty of games who will get free updates, the list is already out. These games instead are improved with extra stuff.

If I sign up for the 7 day NSO trial, do I get the BOTW and TOTK upgrades and keep them?

All i care about is the 4k 60fps. I wonder if it will get that without paying for the upgrade?

Absolute fucking scam, no matter who does it.

"Bu-bu-but Sony does it!"

"Bu-bu-but MS does it!"

is not a fucking excuse to ripoff your loyal consumers to HIDE A FUCKING PERFORMANCE UPGRADE BEHIND A PAYWALL.

I paid for the hardware already, shitheads. You don't get to dictate whether I use the full capabilities of my paid hardware.

Charge howmuchever you want for more content, eg, Death Stranding Director's Cut (new content), Gears 5 Hivebusters DLC, Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty DLC, or even Mario Kart 8 DLC from Wii U to Switch, but performance? Fuck you.

Shoutout to Bandai Namco being the lone fucking publisher who has announced a free upgrade to one of their games without requiring this scam.

Can't wait for the fucking Switch 2 emulator.

For Kirby's case you get brand content for it I would say worth the price…..let's be honest even as Atlus fanboy I wish they did this with their games.

That's fair. Still, I think they should offer the new content as paid DLC, but leave the increase in resolution and framerate as a free upgrade.

Fine with it. I'd rather have the option to pay for a better version of Zelda than not have the option at all. Playing BoTW at a higher frame rate is probably the biggest draw for getting a Switch 2 right now.

For me I'm only doing the upgrade for Kirby since it getting significant new content and I really liked Kirby The Forgotten Land.

I highly enjoyed BotW and TotK but if they are not getting anything new then I'm not gonna waste money on it.

There are already announced Switch 1 games getting FREE visual updates/patches for Switch 2.

They are only charging for the games that come with actual new CONTENT. Also, based on the developers interview some games will automatically benefit from the DLSS, though he did not specify either by resolution, performance or both...

But sure, continue to spread Switch 2 misinformation like everyone else on the internet.

It would be pretty cute if people stop stating it comes "free" with NSO+

It makes it actually More expensive

What misinformation? You have to pay for the update, no? That's what I'm complaining about.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can you play BOTW at 4K/60fps if you already own the Switch copy without paying any additional fee?

You are PAYING for new content i.e. The Zelda notes app. If it didn't have the Zelda notes app (which has new audio logs, QR code creations and more) it would be This -

Edit: More proof there will be Switch 1 games that will naturally take advantage of Switch 2 hardware (without necessarily needing to pay for it)

So the answer to my question is "no"? Ok. In that case I wouldn't say I was spreading misinformation nor anything like that, since being able to play the game at 4k/60fps seems to be paywalled.

So we can theoretically buy cheaper OG Switch games(especially ones that go on sale) and then
upgrade to the Switch 2 version for a $10 spot. Nice.

Gotta go find that list of compatible OG Switch games for the Switch 2 now.......

The answer is No, you are not paying for just new upgraded visuals, you are paying for the new content.

As upgraded games without new content are free.

Let's say the minimum, for example, would be a 1080p patch with 60fps for something like Metaphor: Refantazio. That's not worth $10? GTFO.
