I woke up to a troubling situation this morning, my Switch which was docked and in sleep mode was flashing on and off (the charging icon, like when you place it in the dock after putting it to sleep and it quickly flashed to indicate it is charging). It would flash every 1 - 2 seconds.

I picked it off the dock, turned it on and everything appeared okay. I put it back to sleep and on to the dock, and it did its normal charge flash once, and thankfully no more flashing the charge icon.

I hope this was a fluke, but the Switch seemed to be properly sitting in its dock when it was flashing so I don't know if it was an improperly seated connection.

Has anyone else had this happen at all? Also, I read that you can set the system up to not sleep, so I assume that means it will power down whenever you turn it off as opposed to default to sleep - is this correct? If so, how do you do it? I'm nervous about keeping it in sleep mode all the time.

Does everyone just put their Switch into sleep mode when charging or do you power it off? I usually power mine off and let it charge overnight, but I'm wondering if this is just a waste of time and letting it go to sleep on the dock is perfectly fine.

When you put your switch in to the dock it puts it in to sleep mode anyway. I waste time turning it off, then putting it in to the dock and the thing switches itself on and in to sleep mode.

Now that more time has passed, how are you guys feeling about the joycons-in-grip controller option? I'm sure the pro controller is superior, but personally, I've dumped hours into Zelda with the puppy-grip without any complaints.

Same here. Don't mind the controller at all.

However for some reason my left joy-con becomes unresponsive or the joystick "locks in" one direction. It's very annoying I may need to replace it.

I meant powering off from dock... if I'm docked I'll power it off fully, but not sure it's even worth the trouble when I can just put it to sleep

Like with modern tablets I just leave it in sleep mode, not taken it out of the house yet but in those cases I might turn it off if I know i'm not using it for a while.

I did leave it undocked but in sleep mode for 6 hours yesterday and it was still at 100% when I woke it up.

My Zelda playthrough comes to an end this weekend and I'm looking to pick something else up. Was thinking of Isaac or Shovel Knight. I was really looking forward to Bomberman (havent played a game in series since...SNES?) but OT havent been too kind to the game.

Thoughts, anyone?

Can someone link me to that spreadsheet of all the power banks that were tested? I can't seem to find it

EDIT: Found it! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hEgRYI3NztlKbXeVHRpNJ2DbvkOfeeGjIr95x5jADfQ/htmlview#gid=0 For anyone else who might need it

That is strangely limited... Is there a reason they're pushing RAVPower so hard? I own a Jackery Titan and it works very well (http://a.co/gMoMT5T). It manages to charge while playing BotW with no issue and is currently cheaper than all the options on that spreadsheet.

Binding of Isaac is an evergreen game that will continue to be good for years. Can't recommend it enough.

Your perception of Bomberman is right - save the money on that one. However, the choice between Shovel Knight and Isaac is a very difficult one. You really cant go wrong either way. I'm hard pressed to recommend one over the other, both are amazing but are also quite different as well. I'm high on Isaac right now so I guess that is my recommendation, but at the same time Shovel Knight is so good too that you wouldn't be wrong going that way.

If you are a collector at all, you might want to look for the physical Isaac as the first run prints have a nice instruction booklet, stickers and such - a cool collectible for anyone nostalgic for the old days of gaming.

I don't know the specifics yet or why they're pushing one so much more than others. Still need to do a bit of research into them. Thanks for linking yours though! I'll check that one out as well

I'll eventually get both but, per your advice, feel I'm pressed to get that physical Isaac copy while I still can. Waiting for me for pick up at Best Buy right meow. Thanks for throwing in your two cents.

This seems... off. Something really weird is going on with Amazon's trade-in values. The single L/R Joycons have a higher trade-in value than the console. It doesn't look like the value has changed any since it was first listed on Amazon.

Your post convinced me to grab Isaac too.

Thanks!

I know it logically makes sense but for my own sanity want to confirm...

If you're playing BoTW and you dock your Switch, after say....an hour, if you pop your Switch out and touch the back, is it warmer? Not burning hot or anything just warmer.

Obviously it's keeping cool as I notice the Exhaust fan get's a bit louder as well and I can feel cool air flying out. Again, just for my own sanity :)

I believe the reason why is because those RavPower models are the only ones to support 15v/2a output on the USB-c port. I think this is a close to charging with the same power as the being on the Switch's AC adapter (I could be wrong, not sure).

As in the Jackery Titan and most others, they max at about 5v/3a on the USB-C port, which supports charging the Switch while playing a game like Zelda: BOTW, but it would be at slower pace compared to the RavPowers with PD and 15v/2a output.

It is for me. I've played BOTW and Binding of Isaac docked for an hour and when I removed it, the back was pretty warm, not burning hot, but warm.

So the last couple times I've booted up my Switch and started Zelda the fan starts up really loudly before dying down after a few minutes. I don't recall it ever doing that before, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention. Doubt this is an issue or anything but I was just curious to see if anyone else had noticed this at all.

edit: This is both in handheld and docked mode.

~60 hours in BOTW. I've probably played 20 hours with the Joycons attached and 40 hours with Joycons in the grip. I think they're both comfortable, with the nod to the grip just because it's lighter.

huh, what store does pickups for the Switch?

Off the top of my head Best Buy, Target, and Walmart do, though Walmart is usually a ship-to-store than store pickup options.

Gamestop has a "Hold for Pickup" option where they'll put your game behind the counter but don't actually have a payment on file or anything.

Is anyone else's joy cons loose while connected to the tablet? Like it can jiggle quite a lot compared to these new neon controllers that I just got

I can't stop playing Isaac. I've sunk over 20 hours in since i got it last Friday and it's all I've played. Zelda is incredible yet this is keeping me off it.

Man I'm quite disappointed by the launch, coming from the wii u. I mean as a whole there is more software, and Zelda is phenomenal. So are games like shovel knight and FAST. But I still expected more. I mean it wasn't like the last year of wii u was content filled, there really should've been more from a software point.

It's good that there won't be a drought anywhere similar to that of wii u where it seemed like we had to wait 6 months until we got a worthwhile game in that of Pikmin 3. I was expecting at least some more indies or at least virtual console to be launched relatively quickly.

At least miiverse provided some sort of entertainment.

Also NintendoLand>>>>>>>>>1 2 switch. It could be argued that the wii u had a better launch, at least the day 1 launch.

Same here. I love playing BOTW but being a first Isaacs player, it really is addictive.

Aiii

So not worth it

Anything can be argued, but in this case it would be wrong. Zelda might be the best launchtitle for any console since Super Mario 64.

Then looking at the Wii U launch, the only two titles that were worthwhile and new, were NSMBU and ZombiU. The latter was pretty much an eShop title in terms of content and quality and pretty good, so much like FastRMX or the new Shovel Knight. Mario was pretty much the same as other NSMB titles, they are okay, but nowhere near the quality of the top titles in the SMB series. Then you had some ports of older games, and the eShop had a handful of titles that were mostly rereleases.

Contrast this to the Switch and it has a vastly better library already. Several (timed) exclusives and just all around good games in a variety of genres. The overal quality is much higher than the Wii U had.

Add to that the fact that there are a number of good first party titles coming, MK8, Splatoon, Fire Emblem and Mario Oddysey alone fill out 4 out of 8 months of this year, not to mention some of the third party titles to come and the sixty odd indie titles we are getting. Wii U would have wished it had a first year like this, perhaps it wouldn't have been such a disaster in sales.

Getting a few games next week and a good bit more in April thankfully.

Also, the Wii U launch was awful. You could argue it, but many people would disagree. Sony couldn't even entice me to touch zombi again when they gave it away for free.

Mario kart 8 Deluxe is already jumping high in Amazon hourly charts. its 4th right now.

I'm tempted to get a Switch for portable Mario kart 200cc

Agreed I can only see myself owning Zelda for a while. Noting else interest me, including xc2. Fire emblem does but that's next year.

New Super Mario Bros U is the secret killer launch title that everyone wrote off because it was called New Super Mario Bros. It was an absolutely fantastic game and far and away the best 2D Mario game ever.

Also the Wii U launch lineup completely smokes Switch. It was very solid and varied actually. Both on the first and third party front. Only the PS Vita has a better launch lineup in recent memory. Switch had Zelda. Zelda is great, but no, that alone does not make the Switch match up to what Wii U offered on day 1.

I disagree about new super Mario Bros U. Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario world for me are the best 2D Mario games.

I loved it as well, both the original and the luigi dlc offer some of my favourite platforming ever.
I do hope we don't have to wait too long for a 2D Mario on the Switch. Kinda hoping they'll go for a different artstyle (a hand drawn 2d mario similair to those portraits in 3D World would be perfect) but I'd be fine with something similair too.

I'm not sure if I agree with the Wii U having a better lineup though. more varied? sure, I guess but I already have seven games for my Switch which is close to half of what I have for the Wii U in total. Zelda and Spectre of Torment are absolutely phenomenal games and I'm greatly enjoying Fast RMX, Snipperclips and Blaster Master Zero as well.

Thank you and thank you.

I'm looking for the perfect wife Co op game.

Snipperclips in that case. Seriously, go get it.
