Nintendo Treehouse team got a thank-you gift from 4chan's video games board.

By consequences I meant an IP ban. You're free to yell whatever you want into your megaphone, but don;t be surprised when someone comes and takes your megaphone from you.

Yes because censorship is totally what the Internet needs.

It's fine if you have a spot on the Internet that you can regulate against stuff unwanted/unneeded. It's horrendous to apply said regulation onto the entirety of it.

Well okay then. If the owner of any site(not just 4chan) decides to ban people, they should be able to do whatever they want with their own site. I hope that's what you mean.

This thread went to some crazy places... But how about next year we try something like this too? I think it would be cool to send out some thank you collages.

Most of 4chan's tech-savy enough to work around an IP ban. I mean, not everything needs to be GAF. I like that GAF is strict as hell. I like that /v/ isn't.
And you are free to say whatever you want, but that doesn't mean everyone's going to hear it or care about it. I go to 4chan, I hear a racial slur, and it almost always exits my mind right after hearing it. You control what you pay attention to, and that's what 4chan is grounded on. If you think what someone is saying is stupid, you either point and laugh at their stupidity (much like what is going on with you in this thread), or you ignore them.

Yeah. I think every site should be moderated, but no one should force the site owners to do what they don't want to do.

That's a paradox. You think that every site should be moderated, meaning that the site owners would not be able to choose what don't want to do. But you also think that no one should force the site owners to do what they don't want to do. That's completely contradicting.

/v/ is actually a decent place to go to. I don't get what the fuss is. Sure, there is shitposting, bait, (which are both the same thing) and so forth there. But if you avoid "What went wrong", "How do we save _____", and threads like that, and you'll see decent topics. I like /v/ a lot, you can find good discussions quite often. Metal Gear threads are often my favorite, the theories and hype building shit everyone posts make them the best threads IMO.

Good on /v/ for sending a Thank You card. They've sent Gaben, Kojima, Iwata, and Arino Kacho a card before and the reaction was positive. It's all fun and in good faith.

Eh, not necessarily. I assume that means while he personally thinks it would be better for sites to be moderated, he sees the control of the site owners as being more important.

A little upset because Nintendo had a good week that fans appreciated? It's not like Nintendo is undeserving of praise by default just because of your own inclinations.
Labeling "Nintendo gamers" like some subset of people beneath you while claiming they are the ones on the high horse is the best laugh I've had all day.

no..im not upset at nintendo,im glad they have a good show..i just tired of the hyperbole and the ego of some of their fans,u feel incluided? thats your problem

seen fanboys chest pumping about "winning e3" bring me memories of the dreamcast and their infatigable fanboys, and thats its good laugh believe me

I guess you could say Nintendo's... not_so_special?

nintendo its awesome ( when they want to) his fanboys? not so much

I don't really frequent 4chan but I am aware of its bad reputation but I don't think we should overgeneralize that everyone there is bad. It's an incredibly huge message board. That's like other people saying that about GAF or any other forum. I know some who visit 4chan often but they're not bad people. They're actually good people, cool people, and they are even part of fandoms that I'm in from art, music, UTAU/Vocaloid, video games and lots more. They don't spout off slurs, in fact the guys and gals I know are for equality, very level headed, and like to get into discussions.

I just think we're all over simplifying. I joined GAF cause I found this to be a pretty cool place and even during my time lurking for the past year and a half, that despite some of its negatives, I also saw a lot of its positives. And a lot of cool people, even some I met on Twitter first.

The difference between gaf and 4chan is that when I'm reading a shit post on 4chan I'm sure the poster is trolling / being sarcastig / just wants to get people riled up and these posts don't even really register with me, but when I'm reading gaf I'm pretty sure these posters are serious.

I don't even go there regularely anymore (im talking about /v/ btw) but the place isn't as bad as some people want you to believe.

The implicit trust in the user's ability to self-moderate is really what I like about 4chan. This freedom requires not only thick skin but also level headed attitude towards others. Like being thrown into the wilderness, it builds character.

Tribalism or "egos" isn't isolated to Nintendo fans. The fact that Nintendo focuses on game mechanics rather than cinema filters most of this tribalism into comments like "saving videogames." With fans of other platforms you have comments like "but it has no games," "inferior PC," "save us Cerny" etc.

Meh, [containment] sub-boards have their purposes, but for general discussion for all genres, they do not replace the main board.

TFW there was a nice Rhythm Tengoku series thread the other night but GAF almost never talks about the games anymore.

Eh, I experienced the yearly decline firsthand from 2007 to 2012. Haven't been back since /vg/ was created and a quick look at the catalog tells me I haven't missed anything.

It simply kept getting more and more people who took the "/v/ hates video games" joke seriously and shit up threads just for the sake of shitting them up. Nor does it matter whether I can ignore the shitposts or not, because there's always at least one person who can't and that's all it takes to derail the thread.

The mere fact this bothers you at all, says that you are one of the "fanboys" you are preaching against. You were just on the wrong side of this one and it hurts to see your enemies happy. Grow the fuck up.

People who are surprised about /v/ doing something like this have yet to figure out that GAF is the most negative, complaint filled gaming community on the net. There's far too much cynicism here for something like this to happen.

Hopefully people will start to realize that even /v/ makes us look bad.

Yup.

I remember being there when they were making Gabens card.

It was something else seeing them come together to make something for someone they care for and appreciate it despite the jokes, whether they'd admit it or not.

You mean how, when Nintendo said Iwata was sick, some Neogaf posters joked about his illness while anons on /v/ decided to make a get-well card?

Yeah, /v/ celebrates industry heavies and enjoy (and makes) video games, gaffers run them off the boards and bitch about sales charts and frame rates. Considering how influential this board apparently is, you folks should hold yourselves to a higher standard.

I think a lot of the negativity on gaf is driven by system warrior bullshit. I'm hoping it will calm down as we get further into the generation. Thats what happened last gen at least.

This is too funny. Y'all are a legit shook, insecure, jealous and madder than fuck that /v/ is being recognized for something positive instead of GAF. There ARE other gamers and other gaming sites out there guys. And no, they aren't all shit. Calm down.

GAF takes itself too seriously sometimes. I lurk /v/ all the time. Learn how to relax and maybe give yourselves some sense of perspective.

I am surprised there's still that many people here thinking that /v/ is the embodiment of evil/horrible opinions.
They didn't make this card for recognition, but just for goodwill (and that's why they were "harsh" towards people in the reaction thread crying about Nintendo didn't say it was from them or that they needed to send more cards). They understand doing more would just nullify the meaning of this.
I'm not surprised to see posts here and on reddit saying "we need to do the same", "we were outsmarted", etc. It would just come as "me too" initiatives to do it now. Just do it when you really want to, it's not as if there weren't many opportunities for that.

And yeah, there can be some great discussions on /v/. You just need to avoid some threads, unless you really want to (
and use the catalog and the filters, those aren't here for nothing
).

This is pretty awesome. I go on 4chan pretty regularly, probably more so than GAF and I think people really need to stop assuming things based off of reputation.

NeoGaf planned send out giant cards to the main developers at E3. It had pictures of memes, favourite quotes, best game characters etc. But the idea was scrapped when nobody could agree on the printing resolution.

I joined GAF initially because I find the quality of posts were a little higher.
These days, I do not find it so. Even good threads have been turned to shit by drive-by postings.

I fully agree with Cliff in that there is no surprise why developers have begun hating this place.

Lots of people here are calling developers "lazy". I was thinking NeoGAF has a higher standard than that, that this is not GameFAQs. I now feel the mentality of this place is no different from other places, just that the way people insult have better spelling and grammar.

No developers are lazy. Even if the game they made is terrible. And some threads that gets made here, if a developer comes in and read it, no doubt he will forever swear off this forum. It is toxic for the developers mind. It might affect his actual work if he cares what people here just called him.

What /v/ did was just heartwarming, despite their communities. It is easier to not care about 4chan, but one day you receive a gift from hundreds of people you do not know and go back to your job. Insults from places like 4chan, GameFAQs are much easier to ignore compared to NeoGAF.

This guy gets it. You need to learn how to check the seriousness of the posts.

Hah, pretty much.

Treehouse was great, it makes me happy to see stuff like this.

/v/ has its fair share of shit, but there is good in there.

Tweets like that help keep him relevant. Did we do something to him, or did he just randomly decide to say something shitty about GAF?

I think it started when he publicly stated that used games should be killed because otherwise high end games couldn't exist for much longer, along with him agreeing with the terrible stuff the XB1 tried to introduce before they backtracked.

GAF in general disagreed with Cliff on that, and he took it VERY hard. Its been snipes and potshots ever since.

People are defending 4chan now? Wow.. Makes me wonder how GAF would look like if the mods took a break for a week or two.

People that post on 4chan are horrible people. I see no problem with grouping all of them together.

I could be dying of dehydration, but I still wouldn't accept a drink of water from a 4chan poster.

How does a thread about a thank you card get to this point?
