Nintendo Warns Users that Game Key Cards Might Become Unusable if Placed Near a Strong Magnet

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.

A special warning has been printed on the back of Nintendo Switch 2 Game-Key Card physical releases in Japan.

The warning tells users not to stick a strong magnet onto the Game-Key Card in order to avoid damaging it, as it could render the Game-Key Card unusable.

"The Game-Key Card could become unusable if you stick a strong magnet onto it. Please be careful."

This same message does not appear to be printed on the non-Game Key Cards.

You shouldn't put electronics near a strong magnet. Whose going around with strong enough magnets that a warning sign was necessary?

No shit?

I guess it makes sense for them to highlight it, as their primary audience skews a bit younger.

What's strange is that this same warning isn't on the cart for full games like Mario Kart World. Switch 1 cartridges aren't susceptible to magnetism because they use burned in (read only) solid state technology.

We knew the storage capacity for game key cards is less than full cards, but this warning implies they're using some entirely different underlying technology that can be interrupted by magnets.

Yeah, probably no or less magnetic shielding, cheaper components etc etc.

Nothing about this but when I was 6 I got a stick magnet and dragged them all over my grandmas CRT because it made cool colors. Left giant patches of purple all over the screen and I got in huge trouble. Good times 😂

Incoming Polygon article: "A Neodymium magnet in my pocket damaged my Switch 2 keycard and the Switch 2 is projected to sell 10 million based on Mario Kart 8 Switch 1 sales"

Wow, magnets can destroy $80 games? Switch 2 is dead. Calling it now.
