NintendoDS - Europe Box Picture

Not so-bad box spoilt by a terrible watermark :S.

I don't like to say it but I think DS will flop in UK/Europe.

UK is most definatly Sony territory (games-wise).

I don't think the DS is going to flop in Europe (There is more to Europe than just those tasteless British folk :p). If Nintendo manages to have an extensive ad-campaign over here, and show it's a brand new system for a market other than kids, then I think it will do quite well over here. Ofcourse, it doesn't just depend on the marketingcampaign, but I hope with this system they will set things straight....

Then again... It IS Nintendo Europe.

Still doesn't take away the fact that the box looks pretty sleek. It really grabs the attention, that's for sure.

So, the Japanese love the DS. It's been very well-received here in the US. But it's going to flop in Europe? That doesn't make a bit of sense. People are always so pessimistic in talking about the DS.

Ugly box, too dark for my tastes, the JP one was nicer.

Anyway, I agree that it will flop in Europe, unless they sell it for 100€

Heck, UK may go for Gizmondo instead.

No chance, :ngageflop

If Sony released a teaser (TV) advert for the PSP it would just completely overshadow the DS in UK.

It would be UK version of Virtual Boy

Saying this I will buy one if it is around 100-120 quid.

That’s okay because it's quite ironic, he spelt "dinner" incorrectly.

I did... I'm a failure at life... :(

:p

Hmz.. Fake... Possibility is there... Still have to wait until it's the 27th of January then...

If its under £100 with Yoshi available at launch I'll be there on day one, even if I'm the only one!

Nintendo claimed Game Boy was outselling PS2 and Xbox in the UK prior to the console hardware shortages kicked in. As elsewhere the format doesn't get much exposure because of the low software to hardware tie-ratio, low profit margins and it just isn't sexy.

Unlike in Japan and America, where I think the 'expansion of the market' is bollocks spouted by Sony who're just after Nintendo's lunch, there is a chance of the portable gaming market becoming bigger in Europe. Reason is simply down to the penetration of Game Boy not being as high here.

I know. Pink would go over MUCH better in the UK!
Nintendo need to get Burberry in to design the fascia! Give 'em a chance to get the key chav market who'd otherwise lemming like pick PSP. :p

it's okay.... it's only one word. just don't let it happen again, especially when it's in a post pulling someone up on their own spelling mistake ;P

Omitted drama :(

Drama?? Naaaa... nothing like that. It's always the same thing when someone other than the "usual guys" breaks the news of something “big" like this. It's just a matter of time for the usual channels to post this... ENE3.COM is still the biggest independent gaming site in Portugal for some reason ;)

plus no demo

Hint?

Guess I'll have to import after all if I want a nice box, then.

P.S. No, the box alone won't seriously make me import.

wrong imo ;) this is sexy:

70 millions GBA worlwide, 25 in the US 20 in japan and 25 in europe, do you really think the penetration is lower?

As we often say, UK!= europe

I don't know where you get these numbers but they're wrong. Nintendo's last reported figures from their 1st half results:

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/n10/news/041125e.pdf
(last page)

shows "Life to date Sept. 2004" sales total for GBA (including SP) of 14.56m in Japan, 28.61m in The Americas and 14.96m listed in "other" i.e. rest of the world including Europe.

Now compare that to Sony's PS2 breakdown of sales by region:

http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/data/bizdataps2_e.html

As of the same date, September 30th 2004 the sales are 17.89m in Japan, 30.23m in US and 25.88m in Europe. I think this validates my original point, room for expansion in the European portable market, not so in Japan and America.

GBA is quite small in the UK. Xbox is hot on its heels apparently.

SNES also wasnt that big in the UK. PS1 expanded the market greatly. Sony are credited for making console gaming big here.
